Yeah, it is stealing. As someone who works in props in theatre, it's more than annoying when an actor takes home a prop they used without asking. Oftentimes, it means we have to make new props for shows because we recycle props. It costs more money, labor, and time. If you want to take home a prop, ask the prop master. If you are denied, respect the crew and don't take it home.
