What’s up Brian, I appreciate the videos you put out. I just recently opened up or started a lawn business because my current job has been affected by the COVID-19. I am still working for my job and I needed to come up with something to supplement my income. I bought a used truck, got a mower and trimmer/edger as well. I am taking a huge risk . I have a partner but Not sure if he is invested as I am. I am a little discouraged I am 41 years old and I feel like I’m late in the game to learn. I am definitely out of my comfort zone doing what I consider LOL hard labor now from inside sales in an air conditioner atmosphere. I am feeling down on myself and I need to make this work. My family’s life depends on my work. One thing I am good at it sells and I am out there passing out flyers door-to-door in every opportunity I get. So I guess the reason why I’m messaging you this is the hope that you read it and hope that you respond and give me some advice that I need that maybe you can help me sooner then later.

I'm finally just now planning out my business after procrastinating for over a year. I'm 15, I'll have my license in December after I turn 16, and I started with an idea for a pet sitting business. I would really appreciate some advice, and some answers to my questions, such as: Should I offer both lawn mowing and pet sitting services when I go door to door or pass out flyers, or would offering both services be a turn-off since they are so different? I have a battery-powered backpack blower, a gas-powered weedwhacker, and a gas-powered sit-down mower, how do I transport them all, and how do I get around the potential problem of having to cross high traffic roads? What should my pricing model be, should I offer free first time services? How should I price my lawn service? Lastly, how far should I go to look professional, and what steps should I take to do so?
@rccrazy305 жыл бұрын
Good stuff man! I always loved cutting grass from the time I was little I use to follow behind my dad with one of those little plastic play mowers lol. I probably started cutting the grass when I was 8 or 9 with a push mower I cut my home property and my dad's warehouse lot. By 10 I was on the tractor at home. 13ish My dad bought a bigger warehouse with a 2acre lot so he bought a Exmark Lazer Z 48" man was I in heaven. At the time we didn't have a trailer so I could only use it at his property. Meantime at home, I was stuck using the garden tractor. I tried for a while to cut come neighbors but all the lots are 1acre+ so in the spring it became impossible to keep up with the spring growth. My parents are amazing people but they definitely didn't encourage me to expand or figure out a way to bring the Exmark home. Fast forward to after college the opportunity arose that a neighbor with a 2-acre lot needed someone to cut their grass. I bought myself a trailer... problem solved I was pretty happy with the extra $75 a week. Last season I saw the opportunity to add 4 more clients with 1 acre+ lots. I sold my dads exmark that I've been using for 14 years and bought myself a new lazer Z S 60". Safety is KEY one of my salesman at my company has a glass eye because something came up and hit him when he was mowing his lawn. I won't start any piece of equipment without some type of ear protection and glasses. I would just caution any kids that are looking to get into this realize you are making a commitment to your customers. There will be times when your friends want to hang out or some other after-school function and you're going to have to decline in order to take care of your customers. Your eyes will need to be glued to the weather forecast. If you can do that you will come out of high school or even college with a better work ethic then any of your peers. OH and one last thing just because your young don't give people discounts just because you're young. Try to find out what other lawn companies are charging and charge that or more.

Hey just got a quick question would u recommend a spartan mower for a residential mower need something between $3000-4000 and trying to figure out what’s best to get in that price range I personally would go exmark if it was my money but I’m doing the research for another person

Not sure sorry. A good commercial zero turn with 1k hours may be more in that range!

Well how many hours do u run on those commercial mowers until u have big issues is 600-1000 hours a lot of hours or just like a good break in on them I mowed from the age of 12 to 25 but I never used a zero turn mower so all I know is exmark not anything else but I can vouch for stihl products though
