So fun fact: In Mortal Kombat 1 you could not fight Reptile as Sonya because her fatality used the block button. The footage of Sonya fighting Reptile is from demos sent to game review magazines that would automatically let you fight Reptile after the Pit Stage no matter what.

On a SNES version you didin't have to worry about the block in finishing moves.(Atleast I think it was on SNES correct me if I am wrong.)

On all versions any fatalities that used the block button didn't count as blocking, so you could still fight Reptile.

I could be wrong since it's been ages since I've played, but I recall that the [BLOCK] button wasn't even necessary to perform the moves; they just prevented the character from hopping around. For example, you could perform Scorpion's Fatality by mashing the [UP] command repeatedly, so Sonya's would require you to just spin the stick in a circle.

I could be possible that Both Chameleons are one in the same, some reptiles have been known to change their gender, The Female version could have been around due to wanting to mate with Reptile, but since Reptile did not want to mate with her, she then Changed her gender to the Male and continued to stalk Reptile while fighting Shao Kahns forces. This would Explain why you never see both Chameleons around at the same time along with other things. There are many different types of Reptiles out there so the Biology of them may differ a bit, But that is my reasoning to the Chameleon characters.
