My dog cons me on the regular. He woofs to go out in the garden, steps outside and as soon as my back is turned on him, comes straight back in and goes to where his treats are kept (guess how we trained him to go out for a pee in the first place. He wasn't a puppy when we got him - he's an ex-racing greyhound - and that usually means more effort is required to train. To be fair, he's very clean). Given that he stands as tall as my waist and that the kitchen is a galley one, so it's quite narrow, he can put himself in my way and it's a job to get past him without giving in and giving the treat. Unfortunately, he's very picky, so we have to offer him a selection of treats for him to choose from. If he knows, or even thinks, that there are sausages in the fridge (we had to find the perfect medicine dispenser after he'd had a nasty injury, and you can put liquid inside a banger) he'll refuse all other treats! For a dog who's mostly as thick as a brick, he's definitely got the hound treat-scheming gene! That's why I insist that greys are cats in a dog suit!

One thing I don't get is if his story was such BS, then how did he manage to spend years advising the FBI (& lecturing at the FBI Academy)? In the early years, he could have only been speaking from experience as a conman, or the FBI would have figured it out. Note that he was not an employee or regularly scheduled contractor of the FBI. Also, It is known/highly suspected by the FBI that he at least spent some time in the cockpit/jumpseat of an airliner. There were things you couldn't pick up from manuals, a quick 2-minute visit to the cockpit, or a visit to the airline simulator. Exactly how, remains unclear. This isn't to say he didn't exaggerate parts of his life story, but I doubt it's as false as some people now claim. As I recall, his son retired as an FBI agent a few years ago.

I don't think I've ever fallen for a scam or con, but I get at least three scam calls a day. Instead of blocking them, I take the opportunity to screw with them and make them question their life choices. I couldn't block them even if I wanted to anyway, since they spoof their numbers, meaning their calls are always rotted through random phone numbers that either don't work or are connected to someone else just minding their own business.

She was arrogant enough to believe if she was persistent and got the right people together, they could somehow just "solve" the problem. However, somewhere along the way she realized it wasn't possible but didn't want to admit that failure so she decided it was better to just scam people rather than saying "it can't be done" after spending all that time saying it could.

To be fair in regards to #22, the price of diamonds themselves is a massive con in and of itself, because one company (De Beers Diamond Company) has held a total monopoly over them for so long, they would most likely be far cheaper if they were unable to hold the monopoly for as long as they did. They once had roughly 85% of the world's diamond supply in their possession, effectively manipulating market prices, they now only hold roughly 20% of all diamonds on Earth.

We all get conned, you pay tax don't you? The money goes to useless things that many of see no benefit! Here in the UK we pay tax on cars. When we buy a new car we are taxed on that, then we pay a car tax every year, then we pay tax on fuel (even though the fuel companies are making Billions & don't get taxed enough). I think most people believe that Elizabeth Holmes didn't go out of her way to scam people. From what I read, it sounds like she genuinely thought her idea could work if she worked out the kinks.
