I'm surprised you didn't include sewing/fiber skills such as spinning, weaving, knitting/crochet, etc.

Those are awesome skills. I love to crochet. There are lots of things that could have been added to the list. Maybe I should do a part two video 😊

Note on animals and small spaces, small living space often means close neighbours so keep noise levels in mind. Rabbit would be a better option and less messy plus good fertilizer for the garden. And if kept indoors i'd keep away from birds due to featherdust (danger to your longs) and a lot of normal houskeeping tasks can be dangerous to the birds longs.

Good points. Sometimes neighbors don’t mind especially if you bring them goodies like eggs and veggies. I’ve had many friends successfully have poultry and goats on a very small space. It really depends on where you live.

I would recommend coturnix quail, the hens in particular are practically silent & only need a good size hutch to live in :)

My only issue with soap making is clothing detergent. We also use cloth diapers, ans I’m completely ignorant as to natural sources of the enzymes needed to break down the waste on them. That and a degreaser for dish detergent.

Aquaponics sounds amazing. I’ve been considering raising minnows or guppies to feed my chickens, and I could double that as an aquaponics system!!

Have you tried cleaning white vinegar for cloth diapers? I think you put it in during final rinse cycle.

@@homesteadingforbeginners I use vinegar in the first wash cycle to deodorize actually (just the prefolds and doublers), but vinegar can be hard on elastics and TPU and actually voids THE warranty the brand covers I have.

Check out the flats challenge and maybe get some wool covers. There also are some good "laundry science" groups. Breaking down isn't the issue with CDs, it's removing all residues both for health of baby AND for absorbency. A dish soap like dawn can be good for stripping fibers but less than ideal for normal washing.
