I don't see it in any of the comments, and it is 104 years old (1919), but Jack Dempsey vs. Jess Willard was absolutely brutal. There is video footage of the fight out there. I think Dempsey was 50 pounds lighter than Willard, but still knocked him down 7 times in the 1st round. Since they didn't require you to go to a neutral corner, Dempsey stood over Willard while he was getting up and immediately pummeled him time and time again.
@REM1956
@REM1956 8 ай бұрын
Broke Willard's jaw, knocked out teeth, and had his face a mass of blood. No standing 8 count at the time, so as soon as a fighter stood up he was fair game. Yeah, even brutal is an understatement.

@dcuss7294

@@brupic8968 It was much more rarer in those days, and you also have to consider that Duran skipped the junior welterweight class entirely and went from lightweight to welterweight, although he defeated a couple fighters who went on to win that title. Thomas Hearns also started his pro career not long after he was eliminated in the Golden Gloves finals by Aaron Pryor at lightweight by decision. He eventually fought all the way up to the cruiserweight division. Since then, there's been many multiple title winners at different weight classes like Manny Pacquiao, Floyd, Mayweather Jr. and others.

@@americanwelder9865 That was the 2nd most disgraceful ref performance ever imo. Morrison was being held up by the ropes and looking like a cartoon character. Did you notice the long haired guy in the white t-shirt to the right of the fighter yelling, "Stop It!", three or four times before George Foreman finally stopped. Refs like that are to blame for boxers who get completely messed for life. As a former martial arts competitor, I don't agree with throwing damaging blows to an obviously defenseless opponent who's KTFO. Fighters are trained to keep on fighting until the ref stops the fight, but if it's obvious that the opponent is KTFO, throwing any additional damaging blows thereafter is unnecessary, in my opinion.

One knockout that I think is pretty unforgettable, that isn't featured in this list is by Jimmy (James) Thunder against Crawford Grimsley. Great list, but the Hearns KO of Duran should have been no.1. Considering that Duran had never been stopped or knocked out before Hearns and the brutality of that single right cross still sends shivers down my spine after all these years. No.2 is Foreman's KO of Cooney which seemed almost nonchalant. And no.3 Roy Jones Jr, both hands behind his back, his opponent still can't hit him, then all of a sudden a right hand and the guy is out cold. Brutal.

@@LIONTAMER3D I agree. But...a uppercut thrown while standing up is completely different than one delivered while walking. George Foreman is the only fighter, (that I know of) who delivers that punch... WHILE WALKING! What makes it so devastating is the fact that the opposing fighter can't see it coming. George's hands are kept low as he's walking towards his opponent. The distance between them is so great that, the opposing fighter believes himself to be safe. If you watch closely, you'll see that the way it's delivered...it's almost like a "sucker punch". You never see it coming. Brilliant.

Omitting Wilder wrong here--its not like there were not some mismatches here on the same level as those Wilder fights like i.e. Roy Jones v Kelly, SRL v Greene and Lopez v Menard. Liakovich was shot when he faced Wilder but he was still a better boxer and looked pretty good early until Wilder hit him with that right hand. It caused Liakovich to have some kind of seizure while unconscious on the canvas. Spilka was a more competitive bout but Spilka would get hit too much even when he won but getting hit by Deonte Wilder is on another level. Tyson Fury's rising from the dead in the 12th round of their first fight was unreal because no one else ever recovered from one of those shots. Hearns KO was kind of karmic because you could find a lot of brutal KOs by Duran when he was a lightweight.
