Liverpool UK 🇬🇧 here! Over the past five years I’ve become minimalist. I’ve found I’m at the stage where I don’t do no buy lists now. I don’t really need to anymore. My mindset has adjusted to the point where I only buy what I absolutely need. I have a ten item wardrobe (best thing I ever did) of higher quality clothing. Nothing has needed replaced in years. I’m older (54) so know my style now.. it’s a process for sure. Good luck on your journey.😊

I’m in the UK too, and I’m working towards a 10 item wardrobe, I stopped buying clothes last year, so I keep decluttering my wardrobe, strangely enough I have more summer/hot weather clothes than Winter/Cold clothing. My brain works better with less clutter as well

This is such a good list to not buy, I think my list would be similar. In fact I’ve decided the only items I need to buy is food and fuel. I’ve collected so much ‘stuff’ over the years, that I’m using all of my clothing, cleaning and lotions etc before I buy any more.

It’s a good rule! I am constantly testing the waters (no pun intended) with what “hand wash only” things I can get away with putting in the dishwasher. Turns out it’s quite a lot. 😅

Hi Aubrey, I’m from Vegas. 🌴 I feel you on the baskets. Three days into the new year and I’ve already bought two. When I go out, I want my ashes spread in the basket aisle of the thrift store. 🤣 My no-spend items for 2025 include “just because toys” for the kiddos (my other weakness), plant pots (those suckers seem to multiply as quickly as the baskets), new hobby materials (fellow ADHD-er utterly incapable of the follow-through), and alcohol for anything other than special occasions. Hi😊 I’m from SW Florida☀️ This was such a great list. Thank you. I’d like to share a fun souvenir idea for anyone who celebrates Christmas…we always buy an ornament each time we travel. When we get home I’ll write the date or year on the bottom with a sharpie. Our tree is filled with memories from all of our vacations and it’s so fun to look back on each year. Typically, souvenir shops sell ornaments year round. If not, I’ll find a little trinket in the store which I can tie a ribbon too and make my own ornament❤️

I’m from upstate NY and I love your videos, you’re so down to earth and offer a realistic minimalist lifestyle, your home is so warm and inviting, not that stark white and neutrals look so popular, as is your wardrobe. Thank you for sharing your life. I’m copying some of these habits for 2025 - not buying any new beauty products until something is used up, trying to purchase second hand clothing whenever possible. Saskatchewan Canada here, and boy do I feel you on the polyester. A few years back when my dermatitis allergies were out of control one of my friends suggested eliminating it and it made a huge difference in my itchiness. One of my goals for 2025 is to work on eliminating (or putting a serious dent in) my yarn stash. I've bought so many pretty one off skeins over the last decade, I just need to start using them up. Mostly I think they'll go into a cuddle blanket for on the couch. Happy New Year 🥳

Cutting out polyester was one thing my son’s allergist recommended for him and it seems to make a difference for him as well! A giant cuddle blanket with all of your yarn stash could be fun! Once at 20 my husband and I drove to Canada on a whim (16 hours roundtrip). We went to Safeway and came home. 😅 The portion I saw was lovely but I’d love to go back and see more of the country than a grocery store. This is a great list. I vote for you putting in an exception: Vacation tea is allowed. Also, SAME with the baskets. A few things on my 2025 no-buy list: nail polish, self-improvement seminars/classes (I'm fine the way I am TYVM), and new handbags (I can buy a handbag if one breaks or wears out, but no additional handbags, new or secondhand. This will be a hard one).

Wisconsin here! Loving your style and videos since i found you a few months back. We're minimalist and have been since we jumped in during the fall of 2019. (Actually my husband has always been one but i took some convincing!) If i could put anything on a no buy list, it would be books, because we buy alot every year. However, we homeschool, and we actually use and read them. But i an going to put the limits on non-curriculum picture books unless it's been one I've been looking for (i do have a list!) Honestly, instead of no buy, because that isn't really our issue, i just need to be really focused on once a month donations. With 6 kids, homesteading and homeschooling, we accumulate alot. Broken things, hand me downs, gifts (GIFTS, my word...), i just have to be more diligent in getting things out the door. Every month. I said it, now I have to do it!

Getting the donations to the donation center is a battle in its own, but I think you’re onto something about being mindful about at least making a monthly trip for a drop off (I need to have that on my goal list as well). Bamberg, Germany. I am trying a no buy year excluding gifts for friends and family. We are on the road of decluttering and reducing costs for three years now and slowly but surely we can tell a difference. But especially with kids in their different phases in life there seems to be a constant flow of things entering the house. I set a goal to declutter each room one by one some days during the school holidays and give it a thorough clean. This it is doesn't get too much and by the end of the year I will be through the house once and through some rooms maybe twice. We'll see. Love your content ❤

Hello from near Zurich, Switzerland. First time viewer and greatly enjoyed your style and list. I'm on a low/no spend year for items to "keep" (quite a few of ones you listed); focusing on using up what's there and replacing only items that are necessary. The plan is to focus my spending on experiences. Concerts, travel, classes, cooking for friends, that sort of thing. I'm lucky enough and very grateful that that's a possibility for me. On that note, souvenirs for me have always been things I would have purchased at home, but chose to get on my trips. Local specialty foods and spices are always fun. Clothes, too, and I mean regular stuff, but from little boutiques or brands we don't have at home. And then there are much loved possessions I've used for decades now, like my rosewood knitting needles from Brighton, UK (1988), the spice tin from Rishikesh, India (2011), a thrifted ceramic bowl from Minneapolis (1998), and many more. Usefulness and memories in one. How does it get better than that? 😊 Hope 2025 is good to you and yours.

Happy New Year Aubrey ! Just to let you know you're one out the few people who look better at 30 (32 ?) than at 23 😀 Your list makes a lot of sense. For the zero waste products : just buying less in general, and especially impulse purchases, has a great impact on your personal "waste score". I have a low buy life-style, so I don't have such a list to share. The only things I tend to buy too much of are tea and... cheese. I have enough tea for 6 months, and 7 different kinds of cheeses in my fridge (and some duplicates in the freezer). So for the beginning of this year I'll be on board with the "first use what I have" philosophy. And to answer your question, I'm from Paris, France (therefore the number of cheeses).

I used to be so bad about getting trinkets on our trips. So....I stopped that, and we choose an ornament for our Christmas tree that is from that area. I just put it up until Christmas. Example...I went to Mexico, the Rocky Mountains, and a beach trip in Alabama this year. I found ornaments at souvenir places or boutiques. PA here. We actually have a lot of the same ideas. No new notebooks or planners (even though I have some really pretty ones in an Amazon cart...just for funzies). The "this planner system is going to fix my ADHD brain" lie is soooo real! Shooting for no new books until the TBR list is cleared, but, I know myself... so it's not a hard no, yet. There are a lot more on my list, but the biggest at the moment is no new skincare. I need to get through what I have and use what I know works for my uber sensitive, delicate flower, skin. In other words, stop trying new crap that the internet suggests as the end all be all, that just ends up making things 10 times worse. I'm in the middle of a horrendous eczema flare and I made it worse, so, yeah...that's where I'm at...lol

Ahh, the ever growing TBR lists. I understand that one all too well. 😅 Eczema is such a tough one, my heart goes out to you. I’ve spent hundreds on products that I think will be “the one” for my oldest son over the last several years. We’ve finally figured out that if we cut out egg whites in the Summer (his only allergy and when his skin is affected) a Tacrolimus ointment and a tallow based zinc oxide sunscreen, we can not completely reduce the symptoms but make them so much better vs. in the past. It’s so frustrating how some products can just make it 10x worse. Hang in there. 💕

I live in Niagara Falls, on the Canadian side. I did a use it up challenge starting in 2023 and it taught me 2 main things: 1. Stick with tried, tested and true products rather than looking for something better all the time. Forcing yourself to use something that you don't like as much as your usual go-to is a special kind of torture! 2. Don't stock up too much, even your tried, tested, and true products. I bought a bunch of body washes when they were on sale several years ago and I can't continue to use the last one because it is going off. I also have a bunch of essential oils that have oxidized and don't smell good anymore. It's hard for me to just pour them down the drain so I'll probably give them a little swish around the toilet bowl first.

I also happen to love an unbated planner. You could be my child because you are so very similar to me everything you said resonates with me completely. I also made a things I will not purchase in 2025. I did see a lot of my things on your list. Notebooks subscriptions, clothing, and shoes are on the top of my list. I will not be buying any more toys for my grandchildren that are staying at my house. If they want toys here, they can bring them along. I feel like those of the biggest things on my list.

New Jersey! No skin care! Except replacement cleanser or moisturizer. I am an Esthetician and have so many items from free gifts & samples. No shoes, no home wares, low buy on clothing and doing a declutter checklist where everyday of the week it’s one item from a category and the checklist repeats each month. One nail polish or one piece of clothing isn’t overwhelming to remove but as a whole it FREAKS ME OUT 😅

Oregon 🌲 I cannot stand anything that has to be hand washed. We have a few pans that are the only exceptions at this point. I need to stop buying random skincare products to try. I always end up hating them and going back to cetaphil and pixi toner. And press on nails. They used to last me weeks at a time and I loved them. But with all the extra handwashing that came with being a Mama they stay on for 24 hours if in lucky. 😂

I love Oregon. I treasure our trips to the Lincoln City/Depoe Bay Area, and the drive through the Willamette Valley area is one of my favorite things. My Dutch oven, cast iron pans and wooden cutting board are the only things I’ll hand wash. To my husbands disappointment because his good knives have made their way into the dishwasher far more often that he’d like. 😬 Tried and true is where it’s at. 💕👌🏻 In November I accidentally spent $80 on stuff from The Ordinary (all things I haven’t tried). I really hope when I finally bust into them I won’t regret it and have to replace all of my old stuff. 🙃 I loved press on nail polish once upon a time, but same.. nothing stays on with the demands of mother hood. Except the time I did dip nail polish. 😳 NEVER AGAIN! Happy New Year! 💕

I feel so blessed regularly that we live in such a beautiful area. ❤️ We ruined a nice pan lazily tossing it in the dishwasher during those sleep deprived newborn days. We replaced it this year and vowed it will never see the dishwasher this time. Oh I would love to hear what you think. It’s only about £8 ($10) here in the UK and lasts me ages. I don’t really use any of their other stuff. Like to keep it simple! I use almond oil to cleanse my face then rinse with warm water. 😊
