We were in Naples a month ago. Just about everyone recommended that we not go there. We ignored them and loved it. Great food. Great atmosphere. The city feels very alive. It's not as spectacular as Florence of Venice, but it also doesn't feel like a tourist filled theme park either.

Ciao, io sono Sardo pero abito in America (South Carolina). Thanks for all the videos, we'll be in Rome mid July, going to visit family in Napoli for a day or two and then ride the speed trains to check out the typical touristy cities. Then we'll be in Sardegna, a casa con la famiglia :) I've been watching all of your videos, it's a good refresher course since i haven't been home in a few years, thanks for the content, keep it up!

@@DavidsDoseofItaly You'll love Sardinia, very peaceful and relaxing. I'm still trying to figure out the logistics, as of now i think we'll make Rome our main hub for a few days while we visit other cities and family via speed trains. I've been to most of these cities already but my wife hasn't. I'm flying into Rome with my daughter on the 4th of July (ha!) then we're catching a flight to Alghero. Wife is coming a couple of weeks later due to work and then we'll do our mini Italy tour.

My great uncle went back to Italy when I was a kid because Aunt Amalia, who never unpacked her household trunks, wanted to go back. After she died, Uncle Mike would write letters, wanting to come back...it was very sad! They lived in Torre del Greco and I passed by on a bus so I couldn't visit his grave...😔

Hi David I enjoy your channel. I had reached out with another question a while back on a different subject matter. I’m of Italian descent lived in Italy many years ago in the 80s in Florence. I am now coming to Italy with my husband and two college age sons. We are on a very tight budget. I need to ask your opinion about some of the thoughts of where we’re going to stay and how to cut costs on some of the following: we have timeshare points and therefore we are able to stay in some hotels. They will be in Bologna, Siena, Pisa and Genoa. my boys of course want to experience authentic Italian food. Having said that we need to keep our budgets very tight. I think we will probably get some prepared food from supermarkets, also fresh breads prosciutto, cheese etc. however I know that we need to hit some restaurants to explore Italy. can you recommend some decent notes regarding this? Additionally we’re gonna need to get around by train. How can I do the train tickets really cheaply? Additionally do I need to buy these in advance here in the states? Lastly do you know an Italian travel agent that could possibly facilitate train tickets cheap ly? do you like the idea of getting around by bus Instead? Thank you so much for all your feedback
@DavidsDoseofItaly
@DavidsDoseofItaly Жыл бұрын
Hi Melissa! When I eat out I rely a lot on word of mouth and also the internet. I look at google, TripAdvisor and the fork reviews, not to mention pictures of the food. It also helps to look at the menu ahead of time so you can get an idea of the prices and what they offer. Yes, a very good idea to go to supermarkets and buy your meals there if possible. In regards to train tickets its pretty much like buying airfare; keep checking and look for sales and the earlier you get them the less you’ll pay. Experiment with buying two one way tickets (going and coming) and also with both train companies, Italo and TrenItalia. As far as I know you can easily buy them online while in the states. I don’t know any travel agency but I really wouldn’t use them because they’re checking the same sites you are and in the end you’ll most likely pay a commission. Bus: I rarely use it. It’s generally cheaper but it’s a longer trip and you risk getting stuck in traffic. They’re necessary if you want to go to the small towns where there is no train service. I’d say the bus is the least reliable service.
@tinalettieri
@tinalettieri 10 ай бұрын
Melissa, you are sticking to the North but what your boys think of as Typically Italian food is probably Southern. Food is completely regional in Italy so it will be very different than pizza and the pastas of the South. Bologna is a gastronomic paradise but don't expect the same things you'd get in Napoli. BTW most American "Italian" food is Neapolitan and other Southern. For inexpensive restaurants, get off the tourist paths and wander into the side streets and find Trattorie where locals eat.

@DavidsDoseofItaly

Sure. But I agree, improve your Italian first. If you want to live and work here learning the language is super useful. Since your work is primarily on the internet do you think you can find something with an international company or could you possibly start your own online business ?
