Pro tips for driving in Sicily…. 1. Never put your phone down. And remember, texting while driving is a skill that needs to be practiced. 2. Drive as fast and reckless as possible. When you see pedestrians or bicyclists on the road, don't slow down. Try to see how dangerously close you can get without hitting them. Especially at crosswalks. The same rule applies to driving near motorcyclists on the autostrada. 3. When entering a roadway or intersection, never look in the direction of the oncoming traffic. Only look in the direction that you want to drive. If there's traffic, block the oncoming cars and wait until there is an opening in the lane you need. And of course, never use your indicators. 4. Ignore all speed limits and stop signs. When at a traffic light, honk your horn as soon as the light turns green. Don't be shy, horns are made for honking. 5. Parking. Make sure that when double parking you block as much traffic as possible. 6. If the car or motorcyclist in front of you is not going as fast as you want, be sure to tailgate at least a half meter from their bumper. Don't forget to dangerously pass whenever possible, even on blind corners.

Symbols are for simple people. I tend to stay away from "patriotic" folks. The way I see things, If your greatest achievement in life was to be born in the US, I feel sorry for you. Also if you actually believe the USA No 1 BS, I also feel sorry for you. Americans don't realize this, but the level of brainwashing compares to North Korea. Daily pledge of allegiance to the flag? Insanity!

I agree I don’t think there is any best country in the world. I think the word best is purely subjective. I used to not like the Pledge of Allegiance, but as I’ve gotten older, I don’t think it’s purely negative as long as it’s not forced upon us if I know problem with wanting to show appreciation and respectful one’s country as long as it doesn’t spill over into arrogance.

I'm still hesitating... Settling in Italy permanently in a few years' time or going there for a few months a year as a tourist. I have to say that we're spoiled in Canada and the United States with our big houses, our big lots, our spas, our heated pools, our barbecues, our pizza ovens, our cheap electricity (5 times more expensive in Italy), etc. However, we don't need all those things in Italy! You don't spend your time on your balcony or in your garden when there are gorgeous piazzas everywhere and cute little ‘locali per fare l'aperitivo’, you don't make pizza at home when a delicious Margherita costs just $5 (including tax and tip) at the local pizzeria, and you don't need a spa and swimming pool when the beach is just a few minutes away by car!

Grazie David! Things get complicated. My paternal great-grandfather (Italian) went to the United States in 1927 (New York then Boston). My Italian grandparents (paternal) came to Canada in 1957, and my father (born in Italy) was 11 at the time. My father became a Canadian citizen in 1969, but I was born in 1971. I've made an appointment at the Italian consulate (November), so we'll see what happens.

I booked a car with “Sicily by Car” in advance for my 75 year old mother and payed everything with my Visa card. Once on the airport, they said that they need the Visa card of the driver for the security deposit. My mother has no Visa card. Fortunately my father was with her. They told him that he had to pay a 20 % fee as second driver if he wanted to use his Visa card. He has no PIN code for the card so he thought he could pay with passport and signature. Upon request, VISA told us, that that works if the car company wanted to. But they did not want that. Instead they now wanted a 50 % fee for paying with a debit card. And if you pay with debit card, you are down graded. We told them to keep their old car. The cancelation fee is 100 % but in exceptional cases (lol) they will charge only 70 %.

@@careychambers6641 since you said he was born in Trani, if you can, I would actually go there in person because when you’re there face-to-face, you get much better results. I did this myself in 2005 and I am sure that I saved myself a lot of headache and frustration. You want to go to the ufficio anagrafe and I’m willing to bet that they’re open from Monday through Friday from seven to noon. If that’s not possible, then you want to contact them via email and send them a PEC email. Use chat gpt to translate your email into Italian if you need it and also specify exactly the full name and date of birth. You will also need your ancestors marriage certificate so ask for that too.

Hi. No specific video. I’m not sure exactly what you mean by prove your ancestry, however I contacted USCIS and they replied many months later with a letter saying that no record was found of this individual. This was particularly good news for me because it meant that I could easily inherit Italian citizenship and I did. In essence when you go to the consulate and you present your ancestors birth certificate, and this particular letter, as well as all documentation for all the generations involved, they are able to piece together the genealogical tree and establish that you are related to the immigrant question. I hope that answers your question. Best of luck 🙂

Hi! Both sides of my great grandmothers naturalized automatically through marriage before 1922. So in a 1948 petition in court, is it more convincing (ie: twice as strong) to a judge to see that the citizenship by descent exits - because both great grandmothers passed citizenship down to respective sides of applicant's grandparents, which then passed their citizenship down to applicant's parent - to applicant? So, in theory, are two heads better than one?
@DavidsDoseofItaly
@DavidsDoseofItaly 6 күн бұрын
I am not so sure about that one however I do know that people have gone to court and challenged the 1948 rule and they usually win. Keep a reminder that the most important thing is the year of birth of the first child born outside of Italy. For example, if your grandmothers still retain their Italian citizenship and had children after 1948, then under Italian law, she was legally able to pass down her Italian citizenship Anyway, don’t be afraid to challenge the 1948 rule

Gave me a chuckle... especially the 'up yours' gesture. I remember as a child my grandfather telling a joke that I didn't understand for many years. It started out, "Why did (Italian WW2 dictator) Mussolini forbid his soldiers from wearing watches?" Ans: "Because every time he'd ask what time it was, the whole regiment would do the gesture on the watch-wearing arm, and announce "It's one o'clock"...! First of all, they are cooking more and more and second of all, I noticed that their personal space is becoming closer, such as kissing on the cheek and huggingmeeting. When I first came here, kissing was nonexistent. Another thing that’s changing is being vocal about personal opinions and driving like maniacs Los Angeles so I don’t speak about America, just like you don’t speak about all of Italy just leaving in Rome. I also get acid all the time. What are you doing here you come from such a beautiful place. Why are you here? I think in general Americans are now I idealizing Europe.

I crossed my fingers and they made it, but it was a USPS nail biter for a few days. 😉 Now I'm waiting for 6mo-1yr for the Consul to review my docs. 🤞🏼 My mom was born in the US in 1928 and her Italian born father (my maternal grandfather) was naturalized in 1933. I don't think the 1948 rule applies as I think male descendants can pass their citizenship to any child regardless of gender or DOB. It's all so confusing and I think may depend on Consul discretion. Hopefully, Italy will see the advantage of me as a tax paying citizen. 😂🤷🏻‍♂️🙏 David, any insight or glaring disqualifications you observe are welcome. Thanks so much for this info.

interesting. you dont need a passport to work here, you do however need to be able to show that you are an Italian citizen. that would prob come in the form of a letter that you prob received from the Italian consulate that recognized your Italian citizenship. Also, you need to appy for the passport in the place where you have residence, so if it's not in Italy you need to go to the consulate where your citizenship was recognized. That's what I did and when I got residency in Rome I did my passport renewal at the police station.

Then me ,my wife and our 2 year old kid went to Salerno train station to check the time for the train to Napoli and the train was 18:35 and the next was 21:00 we was very tired and we went to Napoli with the train on 18:35. Then I went to Europcar at capodichino airport and they told me that without the assistance paper they couldn't give me a car also they asked me again where was the car. On Tuesday 7 may they called me from Europcar Salerno to ask me where was the car parked and after 1 hour from the call I got charged 623,20 euro to my debit card I call back to Salerno Europcar and they told me that the charge was for the key and the parking. First of all why they charged my debit card without asking,second if they want to charge the parking cost it was 2 euro per hour from 8:00 am 4 of may to 20:00 pm about 5 hours. to take the car I think is too much for the road assistance,it is 24 euro. Also i had my stuff in the car and when I told them ,they replied that the car will change many hands and they probably will lose it.
