Kid was so good that people excluded him from mortality, it’s like he had no prime or decline. He was one age his entire career. When he fought older guys critics say they were too old for Floyd. When he fought younger guys critics never said Floyd was too old but the other guy was too young, when he fought guys around his same age critics complained the other guys were out of their prime even when Floyd was a few years older. They treated him like he was Immortal and just to get a few hits or rounds on him was a victory. He was that damn good!

@@kya5004 you can’t be 50-0-0 only man in history to beat the most champions and fight most champions consecutively in row in history with over a 50% knockout ratio and best connect percentage in history by only mastering defense. We really don’t give Floyd the credit he deserves and honestly we give Manny too much credit in my opinion bc he really didn’t have the technic part you emphasized. He lacked the ability to make adjustments in fights if his game plan doesn’t work. That’s why he’s been knocked out 3 times, lost 8 times and has 2 draws. No shade though because 8 divisions world championships and champion in 4 different decades is astounding and legendary regardless of his short comings. It’s just that Floyd had no short comings. That’s the difference.
@kya50043 жыл бұрын
@@89thebestever I never said he ONLY mastered defense. I just didn't wanna write 2 paragraphs to describe them in a comment section. And Pacquiao's technique.... it wasn't perfect, it wasn't the best but it was able to give him 62 wins (39 by KO), 12 major world titles in 8 different weight divisions. Only Marquez was able to knock him out and it took him 42 rounds to land that one punch sooo... it wasn't perfect but it was exceptional.

Maidana put up a spirited effort for half the fight then slowed down and Mayweather picked him apart. The Cotto fight was the one Mayweather vowed beforehand to fight more toe to toe and make it a fan friendly fight. He mostly kept his word and it made for a good fight. Closer, but Mayweather clearly beats Cotto. The difficulty for you is that you don’t fully understand boxing or scoring. The basic premise is to hit and not be hit. Mayweather wins by controlling his opponent and by winning distance and space inside the ring. He doesn’t take many clean shots and he delivers enough clean punches to ensure that he takes the round. Never been seriously hurt or flat on the canvas. The people who can’t appreciate what he is able to accomplish in the ring are simply amateur observers. People miss this certain aspect a lot about Floyd, the philly shell defence is easily broken if you, the one using the philly shell, cannot punch HARD. Notice how Floyd's counters gets the respect from his opponents. Even guys like Cotto, Manny, Canelo, and Maidana were stopped in their tracks and they kept having to reset their positions. Floyd does have enough power, add timing to that as well, to throw you off and reset, that's why his philly shell is so strong compared to others.

Floyd is the product of an attack minded uncle and a defense minded father and there differing fight methods. His uncle roger was known as the black mamba from his vicious right hand and his father a good defensive fight. So he learned to box from his father and to fight from his uncle, that is what makes him so unique, from early he had to literally learn to make adjustments based on who was training him, that translates into how he fight. He is two completely different persons when he defends and attacks and himself when he counters. How do you beat 3 person at the same time in a boxing ring under rules.

I know that size doesnt always play a huge factor, but I just feel like being as big as Paul is vs how small Mayweather actually is. Paul can somewhat cut off the ring. If he happens to land a clean shot, will it have more behind just because of being 40lbs bigger than Mayweather. Mayweather can play his defensive game, but can he stay in the pocket enough land shots and get out with someone that has more reach than he does? Mayweather has a 72" reach, Paul has a 76" reach. That 4inches can matter. I'll just be interested to see how it goes.

People, including myself, hated his persona, his attitude, and the way he became his own brand to cherry-pick fights later in his career. But his ability makes him unquestionably one of the greatest of all-time. I have noticed that a lot of pundits and "historians" either leave him off of their top 10 lists for the weight classes in and around welterweight, but they never offer reasons beyond simply not liking him. Meanwhile they romanticize any fighter from past eras. I don't like him, but we were blessed to witness him. I don't care if he is actually 50-0, or if some think he lost to Castillo in their first fight. He avenged it cleanly, and everyone looks like they got beat at some point. His defensive skill was obviously among the best ever, but so were his offensive skills. He was an enormously underrated inside fighter, often winning exchanges with guys known for that type of fighting; he had an excellent chin, and an even better recovery rate. One of the most accurate and creative punchers ever, and also had the de facto greatest shoulder roll in history. Guys couldn't tire Floyd out, and he always got better as the fight went on and he began to figure out his opponents. Did anyone prepare better than him? He didn't allow himself to get out of shape between fights, but tempered it so as not to leave it in the gym; the ultra hard work was saved for camp. He was a master opportunist as well. Yes, even if he went against Robinson, Leonard, Hearns, Walcott, Armstrong, Napoles, Duran, or Chavez, I think Floyd would win more rounds than he loses, and none of them are going to knock him out. We can complain that he didn't fight either Cotto or Pacquiao when they were in their respective prime(s), and I 100% agree, but boxing history is filled with missed opportunities from the greats. I think it's a shame that more don't recognize him higher. Granted, it took almost 20 years for people to give Mike Tyson the credit he deserves.

If Floyd was a "yes sir, no sir" "he's a great fighter sir" never flashed money.... They would call him the best ever... Over Ali and the rest
@wesleyselkridge21972 жыл бұрын
100% agree. He didn't play the game and try to be Captain America / as wholesome as apple pie. He played the villain knowing this would bring him far greater riches as the world would pay big money to see him defeated...the world did pay and then some but more fool them as he never came close to defeat.
@erniereyes19942 жыл бұрын
Lol no they wouldn’t. When was Floyd ever in a Fight of the Year? When did Floyd ever get Knockout of the Year? To be one of the best (let alone THE best), you need to not just be a great fighter. You need to be in great fights. Why is Floyd the only one excluded from this rule? There’s nothing that makes him different or better than 99% of the other all time greats. He was smart, sure. Was he a defensive genius? Absolutely. No question about that. But “the best ever”? I don’t think so. The best, like Ali or Joe Louis, also transcend the sport for the better. We think of boxing as poetry, as an art, because of those guys. It’s not just about records and belts. Floyd, on the other hand, is why boxing is a “corporation” now and why the best no longer want to fight the best; why the best only “want to get paid” and don’t want to lose their “0.” In some sense, Floyd ruined the sport of boxing and arguably helped give rise to UFC. So, nah. Floyd ain’t the best. I know it’s manufactured to seem that way and it’s probably easy just to say he is, but he really isn’t.
@josephricci76642 жыл бұрын
@@erniereyes1994 Floyd best more world champions than anyone. What's wrong with people who want to get paid? So, you want to see someone go in there, not care about his life... Then 20 years later, he's broke without a pot to piss in and can't remember his kids name. Why not let the fighter make the 300 million instead of some promoter who doesn't really care if the boxer wakes up the next day and can't find his bathroom in his house because his brain is scrambled
@erniereyes19942 жыл бұрын
@@josephricci7664 lol in an era where there’s 4 sanctioned boxing titles in each weight class, that’s not as impressive as it sounds. Of those 22 champions, how many are actually going to be hall of famers? And there’s nothing wrong with getting paid. That’s not the problem. But compare the current state of boxing and the current state of UFC/MMA. In one sport, you still see the pride in its competitors to be the very best in the world, who don’t care about money. And in the other sport, you see a lot of guys who don’t want to lose their “0” and who refuse to fight the best. How is it that in the “4 belt era”, there’s only been 6 undisputed world champions? Think about it.
