Floyd Mayweather is one of the sport of Boxing's greatest, he has slick defense skills, but many don't realize that he also had powerful aggressive skills too. Mayweather was in fact a power-puncher in his natural weight division of 130lbs. In this video we take a look at and educate in an entertaining manner the days where Floyd Mayweather was known as 'Pretty Boy.'
In this unique entertaining style of teaching, we look back into the past of the sport to talk about some fights that made Floyd Mayweather known for his power. We also breakdown the skill he had, as well as some techniques he used in the ring to get him the victory. Some opponents include Genaro Hernandez, his professional debut, Angel Manfredy and Diego Corrales. Not many people know that Floyd Mayweather was once before a knockout artist, in this video we aim to shine light on the history of boxing with regards to Floyd 'Pretty Boy' Mayweather. We hope you enjoy the video!

@@ruste9223 I’ll explain it a little more thoroughly for you. Pretty boy floyd loved boxing, and realized he’s got an insanely high fight IQ and can basically out smart anyone inside the ring. Unfortunately... being smart and 130lbs isn’t what boxing fans want, they want 2 big dumb heavyweights. Floyd realized this, gave 0 fucks, changed his name from “Floyd ‘pretty boy’ Mayweather”, to “Floyd ‘MONEY’ Mayweather” & continued to outsmart everybody for 2 decades, the highest paid, smartest, and best combat sports athlete to ever live. Mayweather was not a boring fighter. Sure, he had some few boring fights but it happens. It doesn't makes him a boring one. Philip N'dou, Chop Chop Corley, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz, Miguel Cotto, Robert Guerrero, Canelo Alvarez, Marcos Maidana. If you think this fights are boring then I don't know what's exciting means to you. The media just simply made the people believe that lie. They keep repeating the Floyd is boring narrative until people (even among some of his fans) accepted it like a gospel of truth. What people really hated about Floyd was that he really had no competition. No one had his speed, reflexes, keen eye and not many at all trained like he did. This helped him be the best. But let us not forget the trainer..Roger. Floyd also came from a family of fighters ( the fighting Mayweathers). This includes his father and 2 uncles. Floyd was also trained by Pernel "sweet pea" Whitaker who was an extremely elusive boxer himself. So with great genetics and training and discipline, he became the best he could be...which made most, if not all of his opponents look like amateurs..eventhough they themselves were very, very good. Floyd was just better.
@J-Hue
@J-Hue 3 жыл бұрын
The few fighters that had the physical gifts, like Zab who was actually a bit quicker when they fought, didn't have the mind. Like with other athletes of his stature, that level of dominance starts with outthinking and outworking the field from start to finish in training and finally in the ring. Floyd was a brilliant tactician from the start of his career to the end. There wasn't a single opponent who both outthought and outworked him.
@toneyclayton485

@@J-Hue Zab was not quicker than Mayweather. He was unorthodox and a leftt and this threw Floyd for a temporary loop. But he adjusted, waited for Zab to ture and picked him apart. Alot of people don't like Floyd. I understand this. For someone to have soooo much speed and skill, why not brawl?!!! Because he didn't have to. To utilize his skills, he chose evasion and countering. This is a martial arts thing believe it or not. Mostly in Chinese martial arts, Aikido, Judo Jui Jitsu etc..
@J-Hue
@J-Hue 3 жыл бұрын
@@toneyclayton485 Zab being lefty might have been a factor, but he was def quicker to the punch than Floyd to start that fight. Floyd countered the speed advantage by going to Zab's body, taking his wind from him, and slowing him down over the course of the fight.

This is what happened to me too and it’s why I give him his greatest props. I was a 60 fight amateur only 1 draw 4 loses. About to go pro had a street fight with 4 guys. Knocked them all out even a dude who I saw right off was a boxer too. Tough as hell he was and the fight with me and him was vicious. I let loose obscene-owner punches while teeing his head with my left for range.. 6 of them straight bare knuckles. Hardest punches I think I ever threw. Didn’t go down to the last one. I was legit ready to soccer kick him in the head if he moved cause I don’t think I could throw another punch. I knew through the adrenaline that something bad was wrong with my right. Long story short.. broke 3 places & shattered knuckle 1 finger now like half an inch shorter than it was meant to be. Took 6 months to heal. About 10 months later pro debut, 1st round .. crack! Breaks .. I win the fight in 4 but I’m punching on a broken hand. If the guy I was fighting was any good I’m in trouble. 8 months later - 2nd fight … 2nd round 1st real hard punch… crack! Pain.. lots of it knuckle apparently moved , whole structure of the hand differential and pain… again he is a bum and the punch that breaks my hand again also basically finishes the fight. A year later, my management said I need to change my style to a points fighter. Tried a lot of stuff, becoming left centric switch, you name it. Developed a pretty good punch with the left but I knew it probably wouldn’t trouble anyone of any stature. Had my 3rd fight.. a half decent opponent, wining record, something like 5-8 ( when your a young fighter you fight real bums lol ) so I’m doing ok, I think I’m winning corner says I am lol.. round 4 he hits me with a beauty of check hook turning into a left half upper.. it was nice stuff tbh.. snapped me right out of points fighter mode and into demolition mode 🤣 within a round I finished the fight. I don’t remember much tbh except the guy had a decent chin and took some hard shots. By the last 30 seconds I’m throwing all out power shots. Crack.. Break again.. I remember coming to myself and being filled with an anger at myself and then him that I could hardly contain. After a 15 second frenzy he is out cold and I can feel terrible pain from my hand. I knew that was it.. never fought again. Cause I’m not Floyd and couldn’t wholly change my game. All this happened about 25+ years ago, nearing 50 soon. Still love to watch the game .

@@mr.doctorcaptain1124 Emanuel Augustus, Genero Hernandez, Corley, Gatti, Judah, marquez, cotto, maidana 1, Canelo, shit, thats a tough question. If I was only allowed to watch one of FMs fights for the rest of my days Id have to go with his masterclass against Marquez, the argument against his performance that night was that he was 4lbs over on the scale and JMM jumped 10lbs. People would say "he came in overweight and got fined, if he didn't come in over the limit it would have been a different fight" I always respond with this 'even if the tables were turned FM still wouldve put on a clinic, he might have lost a round or two instead of pitching a shut out against #3 p4p at that time." the amazing part was that he hadnt fought for nearly 2 yrs. People argue that he looked more impressive against Gatti, which is true, he dominated the entire fight but boxing fans expected that type of performance against Gatti, it was entertaining, mean no disrespect but Gatti was a C class fighter at best. I knew he'd beat JMM but not as one sided as he did, systematically broke him down, it was fun to watch. His bout with Cotto is another favorite, was a great fight.

I Just don’t see how a 130 pound Loma beats Floyd. All that getting behind his opponent with angles wouldn’t hold too much weight against Floyd. It would be the first time Loma would be fighting a boxer with this speed,movement, defense, IQ, power, In-ring generalship, conditioning, and chin. I forgot to mention Floyd’s arm reach, inside fighting, and his ability to make adjustments.

Floyd is bigger than Loma but you can not discount High Tech. Lomachenko's ring IQ is unrivaled and his leg work is p4p #1. He is missing the punching power at 130 and he does not fight dirty (which I think is an absolute must at the p4p level) but to assume Pbf beats him is shortsighted. It would be an incredible fight and I lean towards pbf simply because he is a bigger fighter but it would be the hardest fight of his career.

Farid MK Where is Loma’s ring IQ unrivaled in? In what sport? Do you just mean in his current division? Because Bud has the greatest ring IQ of current fighters. His Footwork is arguably at the top. He’s been beaten a dropped. I won’t take away how great and elite it is- but it depends on what we’re looking for...Flashiness or efficiency? PBF at 130 and Loma at 130 are the same weight. Floyd only has an inch on him in height. There’s no drastic size difference. Only noticeable difference is reach. Diego Corrales was thought to be a more than great fight. The hype surrounding that matchup was insane back then. It’s modern equivalent would’ve been Wilder v Fury. Actually that’s a pretty great comparison. Loma has never done that to an elite opponent at 130. I’d still pay ppv to see it though. I’m certain it’d be entertaining. I’m leaning towards a clear victory and stoppage for PBF though. When chums like Linares can drop you there’s not much question whether PBF could hit & hurt you either.

Well, $60 PPV buys later X50, Floyd got richer and they never got him. He retires with his money, his looks, and more importantly, his health. They (haters) still don't get it. If you think this fights are boring then I don't know what's exciting means to you. The media just simply made the people believe that lie.
