You can get the Neewer boom arm to have a higher capacity by putting a piece of wood underneath the table clamp to let you clamp it tight enough to dent that piece of wood and then wrapping elastic bands around each spring. That takes your load capacity to about 3kg comfortably.

I just grabbed the innogear boom arm onsale $39.99 (Score!) for my Blue ember mic which was an upgrade to my MW-800. The sound quality difference absolutely blew my mind now i'm just looking forward to my boom getting here because the Blue Ember has a bit of a tipping issue with the Blue Snowball mic stand I currently have it attached to. it was a good little stand served me proudly for more than 7 years you shall be missed on my Desktop😥

I would add the Blue Compass Boom arm as a contender in the $99 category also. It goes head to head with the Rode PSA1. Looks a little cleaner with a recessed channel for Mic cable too. However, the Rode PSA1 stays in place just a smidgeon better than the Blue Compass overall. It's a real close tie, but if I had to call it..... I'd choose the Rode PSA1.

Sorry, but Blue Compass is a plastic piece of junk that easily brakes. There are a lot of videos out there. One person even sells 3D printed replacement parts for it. Also there is a company on the German eBay that sells broken ones from time to time. Which means they break a lot. And on Rode PSA 1 you can hide the cable too. There is at least one great video on that. But it requires making your own cable. Really comparable to rode are König & Meyer 23860, 23850 and 23840.

One of the pictures of professional setups you had they were all using Heil PL-2T's which is a more expensive version of the Innogear design though, lol. One consideration with the Rode is that it is much more tensioned than the other stands, so if you're using a mic below 500g it is not going to be stable, and will just slowly rise up.

I have an audio-technica at2020 xlr mic. The newer boom arm $15 works perfectly. Length is not an issue and degradation to joints/springs doesn't happen since I don't move it a lot. I have had it about 8 months and it's survived 3 moves. Hope this helps.

Tip : try to use a different powersource for your microphone to get rid of your electric noise in your mic, you have your powersource for your mic on your computer, the computer is a busy system, that's why the electric noises.

In all honesty, I spent SO much time going through various DIY boom arms to the cheap versions, and I wish I would've just banged up some money and just gone straight for the PSA1 instead... That would've saved me A LOT of time, energy, frustration and money, actually. PSA1's done the job for me on SO many occasions, and I'd highly recommend those of you, who are in the same position as me, to just save up the money and go for the most solid and reliable one aka PSA1. Seriously. :) PS: Now, I have 2x PSA1! Why 2?! Well, if you are using a DSLR camera for streaming, the PSA1 works fine for that purpose as well, and I couldn't have been more happier! Not sure what you mean by that, but yeah, when it comes to the boom arm, I definitely recommend to just save a little extra, wait for a good offer on it and then go for the PSA1. Sure, there are boom arms better than that one, but with PSA1, you get A LOT! I totally regret on buying the cheaper solutions and trying those DIY that ended up being crap in the end. I don't have the best economy either, but I ended up saving money for the PSA1, because I was tired of the annoying DIY-solutions when it comes to a boom arm. Always something that either failed or didn't work as good. With PSA1, you pretty much get what you pay for, no sprinkles and a well-functioning boom arm, for sure.

Nice clear job with your presentation - very clear and concise. For those who might be considering the Blue Compass mic arm here's my unfortunate experience. I bought a Blue Yeti mic because it has such a good reputation. Because the mic has such a good reputation I also bought the Blue Compass arm with matching shock mount. Well I'm pleased with the mic. The boom arm was a total fail. When it comes to positioning the mic, the Blue arm is either too strong or too weak depending on how far you extend the arm. Too close to the center of gravity and it will glide up. Extended too far it will sag down. Any time I needed to reposition the mic I had to go through a long process of adjusting the tension. That was bad enough but even worse all the stress points had plastic adjustment knobs and a key plastic part inside. So, repeated cycles of loosening and tightening (especially tightening) lead to the plastic parts breaking. That's $130 USD down the drain. I have ordered the "InnoGear Heavy Duty Arm" with 38" reach from Aamzon for $50 USD. . It should arrive from Amazon in two days. I'll put this video in one of my playlists so that I'll be able to post another comment to let you and your viewers know how it works out. If it does not work as expected I'll return it and pay another $50 to exchange it for the PS1. I know this is off topic from your video, but I'm so angry about the Blue Compass I just wanted to vent.

I have that exact Neewer Boom arm, and at first It seemed fine. Simple task, it held my microphone in place. But after about a year, it's completely fallen apart. Everything squeaks, it doesn't stay in place, and the base is slowly breaking from moving back and forth. Would not recommend for long term.

Depends really on weight if you are getting a microphone like the elgato wave 3 which is very light than the 25 $ boom arm would be better than the rode psa1 because the weight of the mic is less than the recommended minimum weight for the psa1 but if you have a blue yeti or a shure sm7b then you will be forced to get a good boom arm

Thank you for the review. Little tip try to experiment with your mic noise. Maybe add little gain on preamp and decrease in postprocess to eliminate background noise. Experiment while recording after that listen the recording. Because in real time it is difficult to hear background noise while talking to the mic. 40 year radio pro here. YOU FORGOT O C WHITE! It's the standard for pros, has been since the 1920s.. It's a couple hundred dollars, but I've never seen one fail, and I've worked with boom arms from OC White over 100 years old that worked perfectly and silently, and have never been maintained. It's one of the great design successes in American history, and 100+ year old OC white light fixtures are so hip they go for thousands of dollars. All of these other boom arms are bad copies with cheap parts -- which means that they don't last. O C White started making telegraph equipment, then work lights. Saying the Rode is standard for professionals, pretty much shows professionals you are not one. Which the popping Ps told us anyway. Pros edit those out sir!

I got a $50 Samson arm that looks just like the $50 one that you showed in the video. It worked for about a year and a half until the spring snapped yesterday when I tried to raise it. It was constantly squeaking every time I moved it and the desk clamp was difficult to mount to my desk. So yeah I won’t be buying that one again.

yo you got some nasty noise, dust off your windscreen, get an inline preamp or something if your interface can't handle it, and set your camera framerate to 30 and export the video at 30 so it doesnt look like my computer can't handle this 1080p30 video

I would say record at 24 FPS because it adds a more cinematic feel to a recording instead of feeling more like at home recording. But other than that you make good suggestions

24 FPS is what it looks like he was recording at, but exported at 30. thats my problem
