Beautiful! I noticed that it stated that the paint colors are dishwasher resistant. This probably means that the poured paint might peel off if washed in the dishwasher, but the color won't fade. Can't wait to try it.

Amazing! I am wondering why you had cells on one and not the other? The silicone addiction? The torching?
@McEArt
@McEArt 3 жыл бұрын
Yes silicone oil added. The torch warms the paint and the oil rises to the top making the cells.

Maybe hold the mug by the handle, pour on from different angles, then set it on your tins to finish running? Also, you can use an exacto knife and cut off the long drips before baking. Usually we let them cool in the oven with the door open. So glad you tried it, I'm going to use this on my tiles!!!

Cool! I actually have some of this I used for a project many years ago. (What are the chances they're not dried up?) I think I'd start pouring just below the top rim (maybe even mask that off), so that the part you'd put your mouth on wouldn't have paint on it.

DecoArt makes Gloss Enamels that can be baked for a dishwasher safe, non-toxic finish according to the website. They have other products that can also be used, even chalk finishes and translucent finishes. Check their website for info. I think your mugs are awesome and I am going to try this idea.

I have seen cans of food-grade silicone, maybe you could use that? Also, pretty sure you're not supposed to bake in the same oven you cook in (maybe a toaster oven dedicated to strictly art?). I wonder if there's something (like a medium) you could add to make the paints go further. Do you think you could put a glaze over it to make it last longer? Either way, I think they're beautiful :-)
@McEArt
@McEArt 6 жыл бұрын
Yes food grade would probably work too. Mine is designed for bedroom play so I get it is probably edible. They do have a thinner available. This paint is designed for on this type of thing so doubt it needs a topcoat. As you say it would create an extra layer that needs to be destroyed before affecting the painting.

Gigi Gewgaw yea, one of my friends says you can put acrylic or latex paint on mugs or plates and bake it in the oven and it won't ever come off. I been meaning to try. If you don't preheat the oven, is the bake time precise?
@McEArt
@McEArt 6 жыл бұрын
The instructions read "place the decorated object in a cold oven. When the temperature of the oven has reached 150°C (300°F), bake for 35 minutes." so it is 35mins after it reaches temperature.

Something you did not mention. You should not put paint any were it may come in contact with food or, in the case of the cup, were you may put your mouth. Most paint falls into this category.

I'm sorry if I sounded smart. I didn't mean it that way. It did get me think about other paints. A lot of the craft paints say that there paint can be used on eat dishes as long as you don't put it were your mouth or food will be. That opens a whole bunch of new worms. I have found it is best to hand wash them so they last a lot longer. Warm soppy water, in they go for a gentle wash (don't leave them in the water while the phone rings or the dog is barking), rinse and towel dry. Some people say to treat them just as you would your fine china. Have a good day.
