If you have no desire in aiding ( without a BSP ) these boards are normally not for you. Ive had similar discussions with people at a local MakerSpace about buying the 'Something Shiney' devices. BSP's are vital in getting hardware I/O up and running as required. You have to give props to the sun-xi guys for the support you do get on the H series processors.

@@pirateman1966 Totally disagree with your sentiment on the Pi, for one you have a nasty binary blob that gets loaded into the CPU before you can boot the thing ( you have 0 control over this one ) .. What is your goal with the MicroUPS? And what is the price per piece?
@MickMake5 жыл бұрын
Essentially a UPS for your MCU. So, it has to be Uber low power. I'm talking no more than an ESP32 in sleep mode, but less. The MCU will be able to query charge states, battery states, estimated runtime, wake ups at certain times, events on low battery, charging, etc. Basically as many software features as I can fit into that attiny.
@peterschets13805 жыл бұрын
Nice features. Does it also contain a heat sensor? The reason i am asking is because i want to create my own drone with 18650 batteries. And i am looking for a way to control a single cell with all the features you mention, but that it doesn't care about the capacity of that single cell (18650).

Hey Mick! Do you know if there's a small SBC (like raspberry pi zero) that has a proper powermanagement onboard? I mean like putting the sbc into a hibernation- or standbymode from which it wakes up in less than a few seconds. Or maybe even a smartphoneish power management which throttles the clock rates so that the board only consumes a few ten milliwatts.
@timballam36755 жыл бұрын
What are you trying to do? Look at Adrian's esp32 vids!

The LattePandas, UDOOs and UpBoards can do this as they have a small MCU that can control power on the main SoC. Most SoCs, (especially big.LITTLE architecture), have decent frequency scaling.

Another orange pi board i wonder how their software support is going for their older boards. There was so many good features on their products but so many didnt work properly considering how much this board has so many i bet only half of it is going to work the other half is up to the "user" to figure it out. Unless you are a a expert in these kind of things getting them working properly is impossible its best to stick with something that has much better support out of the box. Looking forward to the review and any update on any SBC's you have reviewed before, if they have a full working OS supporting all features on any of their H6 SBC's i would be impressed and they would be onto something fingers crossed for the OPI 3.

I have a board similar to the Omega but running the mt7628. With a proper mini-pcie. I have an Intel wireless card on it. That chip is quite interesting, only main problem is the i2s interface that don't work properly and the i2c driver in mainline is quite limited and lot's of feature on "automatic" mode don't work. A "manual mode" driver was written but never merged. One of the things that don't work on the available driver is i2c discovery. Unfortunately the hardware expect a byte count bigger than 0 and for some i2c devices you don't have to send data but only the address to work.
@MickMake5 жыл бұрын
That seems to be the nature of a lot of I2C implementations. That's why a lot of people prefer bit-bashing over hardware.

I'm cobfused by Orange Pi... I have something working well on a Raspberry Pi 3, but I need an external antenna. Can I just take the SD Card from the Raspberry Pi 3 and put it into an Orange Pi 3, or is it more complicated than that???
@timballam36755 жыл бұрын
It's more complicated. Armbian is available so you can run most software. I run the flightaware addon on an orange pi zero but you must understand the limitations.
@mindluge5 жыл бұрын
no, OrangePis and BananaPis require a different version of operating system as their hardware is different. It's like the difference between a Mac and a Windows PC. OrangePi and BananaPi are just trying to use the popularity of the Raspberry Pi to make similar products. Unfortunately they don't have as big a software community and haven't been around as long so their operating system versions tend not to have as much support or be optimized to run as well.
@duncanx995 жыл бұрын
Thanks guys....
@mindluge5 жыл бұрын
you can buy a usb wifi card with an external antenna (or 2 even) for the raspberry pi that will do what you want.
@duncanx995 жыл бұрын
@@mindluge That, I suspect, would involve some rewriting of the code (how would it know to use the USB device rather than the inbuilt antenna?) - and it would introduce another potential failure point. The adaptor would need to be to SMA as the idea is to have the Pi in a metal enclosure, with external antenna through the box. The obvious thing to do would be to fit a u.FL connector to the pads (having scraped off the solder resist) and move the 0102 size 0 ohm resistor - but, being of an age where I have unsteady hands and poor eyesight, that's a non-starter...
