in my buddy’s early 25th century Star Trek campaign, the Achilles Class ships were quickly & quietly moved to ultra secret Section 31 Starfleet facilities. They’d be given all the new major armor, new weapons, & transportation abilities & assets, making them ultra powerful powerhouses in their own right & fashion. Section 31 would pour resources into making more of the Achilles class itself. They’d even be given the Phase Cloak, Quantum Slipstream Drive, Regenerative & Ablative hull armors. They’d have holographic emitters installed all over both the interior and exteriors of the ships, so that they could appear to be anything innocuous & innocent, such as asteroids, space debris, large space rocks, etc.

Basically, they were a pocket battleship or commerce raider. Assuming all 9 ships survived the war they are probably sitting in a space dock somewhere ready to be reactivated when duty calls. Maybe a war like the Iconian War in STO. Just saying.

With all the fancy replicators and transporters and automation - can you do a lore video on how ships are actually constructed? Everyone talks about how long and resource intensive it is to build one but it's hard to conceptualize when we see so many things in-universe be instant gratification and ships able to produce their own shuttlecraft even. It feels like maybe a giant replicator spits out a bunch of sub-assemblies and they just hook up and "weld" it and how long could that possibly take? What can't come directly from a replicator and why? The only elements I remember being non-replicable are Dilithium and Latinum. And I presume anything that can be transported can be replicated, which makes me think pretty much any computer system less advanced than Data's brain must be within their capability because the transporter can "produce" him and he's often called so bleeding-edge advanced for the time.

As usual great job with this. This is by far an interesting class. It's too bad we never saw her past video games. Although the underside is a little less than to be desired. If the underside had been curved a little bit more then it would make sense. Having just flat surface with windows...ummm ok then lol. The placement of the micro quantum torpedo launchers is rather interesting. It reminds me of how modern US subs and the way how they have their launch tubes up top as well. For what happened to the 9 ships that were subsequently decommissioned... I'm betting they were stripped down and the tech of each ship being distrusted to the other common ships being built. Just another way for Starfleet Command to avoid a PR nightmare.

I am really dredging up childhood memories of this game, but wasn't one of the biggest controversies of this class was the crews? I remember a mission where I had to rescue Thomas Riker (Will's evil twin.) from a Cardassian labor camp. @theodoremccarthy4438Ай бұрын
The dorsal torpedo launchers remind me of the Vertical Launch Systems (VLS) used on for cruise missiles and ICBMs in real life. That, in turn, suggests that the Achilles class primary combat tactic would be a stand off bombardment. We know from on screen sources that Star Fleet had the technology to deploy probes and torpedos at high warp velocities and thus interstellar ranges. It wouldn't surprise me if the missions of an Achilles class were classified because they involved long range bombardment of vulnerable targets, and that such tactics are likely banned by treaties which the Dominion was not party too. This would make such missions unethical but technically legal, and better left out of the public eye.

@nickolasturnerАй бұрын
I think the class saw service after the dominion war and the return of USS Voyager, in a reserve task force (possibly active one) deployed to guard the federation from Species 8471 and launch delaying attacks in fluidic space where the heavy firepower and long mission capabilities would be put to great use. As the federation high command and council would have wanted to keep another threat quiet from a war wary population, sending the nearly unheard of class and crews (whose families would be used to long periods of no communication) would be a huge boon

I agree with you mostly on this, although I think she was a beloved class by her designers. Even though it may not have been on paper? I think she would be the start of a design lineage that would go on for many years, that lineage would start in the late-2380’s following the synth attack, many of the designers of the Achilles would end up designing a new most powerful starship based on an upscaled and slightly refined version of the Achilles. The Inquiry-Class.
@TriAngulumAudioStudiosАй бұрын

@@TriAngulumAudioStudiosthat comma between “Designers” and “even” was a grammatical error. That’s my bad.
