I love this! I still havent attempted this, but I realoy want to do a reversible project. I have too many WIPs going right now and need to finish some of them first. To turn a regular mosaic pattern into a reversible pattern, we have to add rows, correct? You do a terrific job at explaining this by the way! Thank you so much for your videos!
@TheCrochetArchitect11 ай бұрын
You're very welcome! There are several ways to turn a regular mosaic crochet pattern into a reversible one. If you use spike sc or spike dc, you don't need to add any extra rows (and the project will be totally reversible). If you use my REV-COM technique, you don't need to add any more rows, either. You'll just get a mirror image on the other side. If you'd like to compare reversible methods, check out my videos #39 and #45 to learn the spike dc and spike sc. Happy crocheting to you!

Didn't think I'd like this, as I'm a creature of habit - and I don't like 'wasting' yarn. But, turns out I liked it very much. Reversible is so cool. Wondering if you've done the COM method with larger projects (blankets) and what your opinion is on that? Seems like it might lend itself better to afghans done in blocks and then joined? Thank you so much!
@TheCrochetArchitect11 ай бұрын
I did both of my Overlay Mosaic Crochet blankets (Dueling Diamonds and Wedding Ring) with my COM technique so I didn't have a bunch of ends to deal with! They're only one-sided, though, not reversible. I prefer this method for just about all of my mosaic crochet projects to eliminate the ends. It doesn't make the blankets too heavy and tends to give them a stability over not carrying the yarn. I know that it uses less yarn than working a double border to hide all the ends. However, if you enjoy weaving in the ends on each row of an Overlay Mosaic Crochet blanket, then it would use a little more yarn. Have you watched my COM video #25? Here's the link, just in case: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJjHd5-hlsummtE. Happy crocheting to you!

This is a really great tutorial, I'm excited to give it a try. My son has asked me to make him a blanket using a reversible overlay mosaic pattern. How difficult would it be to make a blanket with continuous yarn carrying? I'd LOVE to avoid all of the tails, but I'm afraid carrying all the way across a blanket width will be difficult to work with.
@TheCrochetArchitect11 күн бұрын
Thank you, Sarah! I'm glad you like this video and technique! As you saw in the video, I carried the yarn across on each of these rows. Since I used a DK weight yarn and a 3.75mm hook, the scarf has drape and isn't too heavy. I haven't made a reversible Overlay Mosaic Crochet blanket carrying the yarn across, but I've made 2 one-sided Overlay Mosaic Crochet blankets carrying the yarn across (my Dueling Diamonds Blanket and Wedding Ring Blanket). I've also made a reversible Mosaic Crochet blanket using spike sc and it's not too heavy or cumbersome (although it's not a very large blanket and it uses spike sc instead of dc). The one thing you need to keep in mind is to adjust your carried yarn before you start the row so your blanket doesn't get narrower than it should. You could always make a small swatch of your chosen pattern and see how you like the weight and drape before committing to the whole blanket. If you don't like it for some reason, the yarn is easy to rip out and won't be in separate pieces for each row! I hope it turns out really well for you. Happy crocheting to you now and always!

Do you have a video on converting a normal overlay mosaic pattern to a reversible pattern?
@TheCrochetArchitect9 ай бұрын
Hi Jesse. I don't have a video to convert a normal overlay mosaic crochet pattern to a reversible pattern. However, you can work a normal overlay mosaic crochet pattern with the spike sc technique and it will become a reversible pattern. You can do this with any normal overlay mosaic crochet pattern. Here's my video for the spike sc mosaic crochet technique: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5_baISgmZd6qtk. You don't need to do anything to the pattern, just work a spike sc wherever a drop down dc is worked in the pattern instead. You can use my COM technique, as well, or begin and end every row, encasing the edges in a double border. Happy crocheting to you!

Apparently the reverse motif is to rows later than the front. But it works. I will add one extra row at the bottom so the top half want be top heavy. Thank you for the technique. What's the foundation, just a chain??
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
Yes. The swatch starts out with 15 sc in Row 1, which are worked into 16 foundation chains (chain 16, sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each remaining chain across). Then Row 2 is sc in the back loop of each sc across (start with a slip knot on the hook and work each single crochet in the back loop of each of the single crochet in Row 1). Each row is worked on the right side. I use my COM technique so you don't have to cut the yarn at the end of each row, creating tails to weave in, make into fringe or cover with a double border). I hope this helps. Happy crocheting to you, Danielle!

Se eu entendi, o segredo do reversível é só fazer o ponto alto ancorado encima do ponto alto, sigo normal a receita?
@TheCrochetArchitect4 ай бұрын
Yes, Karen. You would follow the pattern normally, but work an anchored double crochet on the wrong side on the next row above each of the double crochet in the pattern. You also need to work an anchored double crochet on the right side (instead of a front loop double crochet) on the last row to complete the project. Or you could do a different reversible mosaic crochet technique, such as spike single crochet following the pattern exactly. If you'd like to learn this technique, it's in my video #45 here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5_baISgmZd6qtk. Happy crocheting to you!

Do you carry the yarn when you make a wider blanket? Mine are kind of wide. 😂 You have the best mosaic tutorial I have watched. Can these types of pattern be used for Tunisian crochet? I love that both sides are pretty.
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
I carry the yarn when I make a blanket so I don't need to crochet a double border, which I think uses more yarn than the carried yarn uses. My two Overlay Mosaic Crochet blanket patterns that I showed in my KZbin COM video #25 are both made with the carried yarn. I think mosaic crochet patterns can be done in Tunisian Crochet. I tried it many years ago and it worked great. There's no need to carry the yarn for Tunisian Mosaic Crochet because of the forward and return passes. I hope this helps. Happy crocheting to you now and always!

To use another overlay pattern, is there a way to convert it to your reversible and continuous method?
@TheCrochetArchitect3 жыл бұрын
Great question, Becky! Yes. It can be done! If you download the free chart for this video (#26), along with the free chart for my Overlay Mosaic Crochet video (#21), you'll see how they differ (both charts are for the basic stairstep pattern that I demonstrate in the videos). Basically, you'd change every Adc in the one-sided Overlay to a FLdc (without anchoring it) and you'd work an AdcWS in every stitch above the FLdc on the following row. You may have to adjust the edge stitches (first and last stitch/stitches) on other Overlay Mosaic Crochet patterns to make them in my COM technique, also. I hope this helps!

You're welcome, Becky! If you'd like to try a finished project that uses this REV-COM technique, I have a pattern for sale on my website called "Persimmon Flower Scarf". This pattern is already written in my REV-COM technique with the yardage calculated for using my COM technique without all those ends. The pattern includes a chart and written instructions. You can find that pattern here: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/persimmon-flower-scarf/. I find it's easier to practice a new technique while crocheting short/narrow rows rather than long rows. It makes finding and correcting mistakes much easier!!!
@kevinreid38772 жыл бұрын
how would you turn other mosaic pattern into revcom patterns?
@TheCrochetArchitect2 жыл бұрын
To convert other Overlay Mosaic Crochet patterns to REVCOM patterns, you'd work the FLdc as usual (not anchoring them). Then the stitches in the row above the dc would be worked as AdcWS to make the project reversible. On the last row, the first and last stitches in the row above the AdcWS would be worked as AdcRS to finish off that row nicely. Most other Overlay Mosaic Crochet patterns also include a border stitch that is added to be covered by the double border. Since the double border isn't needed in the REVCOM technique, you wouldn't work that first and last "border" stitch in each row. My Persimmon Flower Scarf (in the REVCOM technique) is similar to my Crochet Mosaic Scarf (in regular Overlay Mosaic Crochet with Adc and beginning/ending each row). Since my Crochet Mosaic Scarf has ends on each row, I made those ends into fringe.
@kevinreid38772 жыл бұрын
@@TheCrochetArchitect how would you work the borders on both sides and the top and can you do a video explaining it
@TheCrochetArchitect2 жыл бұрын
Kevin, REVCOM projects don't need a special border. I just work a few rounds of sc on all edges of my Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects. If you know how to work a border of sc on a regular crochet project, you'll be fine to work a border on a REVCOM project. If you'd like me to make a video on working a border, I'd be happy to add that to my list of videos to make.

Can you turn any mosaic design into a reversible?
@TheCrochetArchitect2 жыл бұрын
I think it's possible to turn any mosaic design into a reversible design. However, it would probably be easiest on the designs with less dc (or Adc) in a row. Go ahead and try it on something you have in mind and please let me know how it works out. If you use my REV-COM technique and it doesn't work out for some reason, you'll be able to frog it and reuse the yarn, since you won't be cutting the yarn at the end of every row, like in regular Overlay Mosaic Crochet. Hello Brigitte. Without seeing the pattern you bought, I can't say for certain. But you can probably crochet it in this (or another) reversible mosaic crochet technique. I would suggest you try a small sample of the pattern in a reversible mosaic crochet technique to see if it will work and if you'll like it before starting the whole project. You might even use a yarn you don't care about for the sample test so you don't use up too much of your project yarn. Happy mosaic crocheting to you!
