Great list. I would add 27 don't pull part of the sealing ring out and then just keep pulling. Work your way around. The rivets under the retaining ring can snap if too much force is applied. 28 buy an extra sealing ring and use one for sweet/low flavour foods, and one for strong savoury foods like chillies, curries, beans, etc.

Love this video. OneNote from an electrician though. If an extension cord has an impact on your cook time, the cord wires are too small. This is bad for the appliance, and it is potentially a safety hazard. Big box (Lowe’s, HomeDepot, etc) or hardware stores sell a variety of cords in different gages. Also the longer the cord, the heavier gage it needs to be.

Hey, just wanted to make the comment that my husband who fixes furnaces heard your last tip, and he said that your problem is likely that you're using an extension cord with too small of a gauge. A heavy-duty extension cord should fix the problem. Doesn't have to be longer, just a thicker gauge.

If you’re that afraid, let it sit for a while. It doesn’t have to be quick released. I’ve always used my finger & have NEVER burned myself. All you have to do is touch the the little protruding thingy and move it with the slightest twitch of your finger. If your big enough to cook, then your big enough to bend your finger.

Thank you! I like the presentation without music. I am a very experienced instant pot user so I knew most of what you presented. I admit I didn’t know that the slow cooking function cooks at a lower temp than a regular crock pot. I’ve not ever used that function as I like my slow cooked food in stone ware. I always leave my instant pot on the back burner of my glass top stove. It never occurred to me someone could turn on the burner. It’s just my husband and me, so that’s not going to happen. I like the convenience of the exhaust fan right above the pot when I release pressure. Just make sure when you release pressure you don’t direct the steam at the light bulbs. I never had an issue in my house, but I once broke the bulbs in my son’s house. Nice presentation!

My wife also puts it on our gas stove. She puts a baking sheet on the grating so the IP has a more stable base. A round pizza pan would also work.

@@philso7872 I use a glass plate from a microwave that I got at a thrift store, which has them every once in a while. I was lucky enough to get a round one that exactly fits under the Instant Pot. Did this because using the IP directly on the counter discolored the counter top.

Because of your advice I put off making a full meal my first time out and tomorrow I will play around with it by making eggs or potatoes to get the hang of it and hopefully be able to make a dinner later in the day. Any advice on what meal to make first time out? (btw I can't have any carbs - rice, potatoes, pasta - or sugars) Thank you for sharing this video and I can't wait to watch the others. p.s. you could play elevator music for all I care - your info is such a huge help I could watch it no matter what was playing. But I do agree with a comment below that your voice is very inviting and friendly. It's like hanging out with the girls. :0)

I appreciate no music because I can hear you without excess noise. Thank you for asking our preferences!

This was so helpful for this brand-new Instant Pot user. I didn't even take mine out of its box for well over a year after purchasing it, as I was intimidated by it! (Nice to find out I wasn't alone in that.) I'm studying up on how to properly use it before I cook my first meal in it this week.

No music is better I think 👍 And 3 weeks on youtube! That’s amazing! You’re so professional and confident I would have thought you’d been doing this for years! Thanks for the advice.

Thanks so much Lisa, I have used a conventional pressure cooker for many many years and quite a few of your 26 x "DO NOT's" are common sense practices from using a conventional pressure cooker any way but nice to be reminded of the extra things to consider when using the Instant Pot Duo. Loving your awesome recipes, already liked the video and subscribed to your channel! Have just moved into a new apartment and just using the 5.7 litre Instant Pot Duo and the 5.7 litre Instant Pot Vortex Air Fryer, and I'm now thinking I do not even need a conventional cooker any more, especially after discovering the saute function.

Don’t use an extension cord period! Very unsafe and is right in the user manual. It’s a fire hazard and an accident hazard. Just don’t !

As long as the current rating is the same or higher than the supplied cord, there should be no problem.

Love the site. Number 27, do not use the stainless steel liner for any cooking except as liner in Instant Pot. Not on stove top. and not baking in oven. Thank you.

No background music! Great channel - love these do's /don'ts! Btw, don't quick release things that are of oatmeal consistency either - wait at least 10 minutes. Spoken from experience! :-)

I have been using my instant pot for probably 5 years, and I still learned so many things from this video!!! Thank you! (Btw- I much prefer instructional videos without music. My ADHD kicks in, along with a little nerve deafness, and I either can’t concentrate on what is being said because of the music, or I can’t distinguish the speech from the music. You did a great job without the added distraction, you are a very good presenter.)

If you ever revise this video, I recommend a slight change to your extension cord reference. If the extension cord you used extended the time to get to pressure and to cook, this means the cord you used did not have a sufficient amperage rating, and the cord itself was heating up. The reason not to use such a cord is that it is a significant fire hazard. An appliance cord rated for the amperage drawn by the Instant Pot would be electrically safe, but it usually presents the hazard of someone snagging it while the pot is in use. So, same recommendation (don't use an extension cord), but for slightly different reasons. No music is best. Storing lid and seal ring my favorite.
