I have a ninja foodi (6-7 months now). Your tips are great for foodi as well. Appreciate your videos. I got my foodi 1 1/2 yrs after my daughter and daughter in law received Instapots at Christmas. They love the ease and speed of Instapot, which is why I wanted one...but then opted for the foodi due to Air Crisp feature. Thx again.

Good video. I've had my 6 qt for almost a year and have been meaning to ask a question about natural release. If you plan to use a natural release, do you have the "keep warm" button off? I've noticed that it can take a very long time for the pressure to drop if the keep warm light is on. No one has made mention of it in any of the videos I've watched.
@karankeeone
@karankeeone 5 жыл бұрын
I believe that you can turn the Keep Warm off prior to cooking. That said, on a NPR, you can just turn the Keep Warm off at any time.
@donnalynn2
@donnalynn2 5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, if I use natural release it almost never has any pressure left. You should never touch the keep warm function with natural release. If you do then what you're doing is continuing to cook the food. Leave it be, don't touch anything until you're ready to release the pressure then stop the cycle as usual before releasing the pressure.
@joytoyouandme4593
@joytoyouandme4593 5 жыл бұрын
I have turned off many times during natural release cycle, so it cools a bit faster. Or you could unplug as well. If you want it to keep warm after opening, then simply reprogram for keep warm. I often make oatmeal, so natural release a lot.

Twice this weekend my pressure pin seemed to get stuck while pressurizing (kept loudly spitting out moisture and steam) and I needed to use the tip of a knife to pop it loose so it would seal. One meal was pasta sauce with sirataki noodles and one was a roast. Thoughts?

You need to post a link if you can find one to where to get replacement parts if you lose them...esp that tiny little silicone cap cover that goes over the bottom of the pressure release valve shaft...that you can either accidentally drop down the sink drain or else have it fly off and land on the kitchen floor somewhere maybe never to be seen again !

I've been using a pressure cooker since I was 12. So I know what the mishaps may be. I did have an Aunt do everything wrong cooking pinto beans. She put too much liquid so it wouldn't pressurize right and it exploded. Imprints of the beans were on the ceiling for years. LOL

Question for you ... I have a 6-qt instant pot and it works fine for me, but I bought one for my daughter for Christmas, it is also an Instant Pot 6-qt. She has twice tried a recipe for cinnamon apples which required a cup of water along with your sugar, apples and cinnamon. She has twice gotten the burn notice and doesn't know what she is doing wrong. I tried the same recipe and did not get a burn notification and the apples were perfect. Do you know what the problem could be, or perhaps and this is just my thought, some pots run hotter than others and it's getting too hot before coming to pressure giving out that burn notice. I was thinking maybe it needs to be returned if it's faulty.

Ive been cooking for years but Im brand new to instant pot. I have two questions, if that's ok. When it comes to rice, which I've done twice. First time there was some stickiness on the bottom. My second time, I added just a bit more water and it worked out better. I have the Ultra 80. Can I make Whit rice in 7 min, using manual? Because it seems the rice button is 12 minutes. Just curious. 2nd question, can I stack 3lbs of defrosted chicken in the pot or does it need to be separated? Thanks in advance. Im also a new sub, as you can tell lol Have a great evening.

If you have a thicker sauce in your pot, after you have released the pressure, wait at least 5-10 minutes before you stir it. I learned that the hard way when my sauce bubbled and popped and I got a burned thumb when I went to stir it.
@joytoyouandme4593

Another tip is to allow it to depressurize naturally when it is a thick substance. For example when cooking oatmeal do not release the pressure manually, allow it to sit approx 10-20 min and the pressurized button to go down on its own. Btw it makes wonderful rolled oats. I then pop left overs in the freezer to heat for another day. Silicone Muffin tins work well for the freezer process, then pop them into a ziplock bag or a container with a lid, for long term storage,.

How about finding the correct foods to cook pot in pot style. What I mean is you really can't pair some foods with others if the cooking times are too different. I tried two large russet potatoes on the bottom in liquid, and seared chicken thighs on top of the trivit in a steam sling with a mix of broccoli florets. It was 5 minutes cook time and the broccoli florets were so overcooked they turned into mush.

My don’t do would be never plan a meal using your instant pot for company until you have taken time to really know how to use it. I LOVE my instant pot but it is so different than normal cooking. Not hard. It is really easy to use. But it is different. I heard of a couple that invited people over for Christmas Eve dinner whose main course was using the Instant Pot. I guess it was a disaster. The instant pot can become one of your best friends. It is so easy to use. But with it being such a unique approach to cooking give your self time before inviting people over for dinner using it.

Great tips! What do you think about putting dairy products in the instant pot? I have heard people say that this is a bad idea...can't remember why.

I've made quiche several times with both cheese and milk/heavy cream and it turns out amazing every time. I haven't tried making yogurt or sour cream in it yet. Hoping Kristen responds with her opinion on this. *edit* I also made a cheesecake in my Instant Pot and my gf and I both agree it was the BEST cheesecake we have EVER eaten. Even better than New York cheescake from any restaurant in New York :)

Using milk for the liquid, instead of water or broth, will make the milk curdle. Using milk or cream in a recipe is fine.

The only instant pot liner that is stove-safe is the one in the Duo Evo as far as I know, it also has handles and a thicker bottom. The company even advertises the stove-usability. But apart from this exception, you are of course right. :) Your stove-top could be ruined as well by the burned plastic, and also some of your surfaces if melted plastic spills over. On the burns when you take the lid off by force (apart from the danger of being hit in the face or upper body by the lid): they are steam burns. As steam is hot water that gets into your skin it continues to burn way deeper than dry burns, not to mention if you also have greasy boiling liquid flying at you. Grease burns can also leave really nasty scars and big wounds, so PLEASE take good care of yourselves!

Oh yes I poured orange juice in my instant pot one of the first times I used it! Always keep the liner in it now!

OR...when the inner pot is removed (e.g. for cleaning) just put a couple of paper plates, or a dinner plate on top of the IP. I suppose buying a glass lid would allow for that on top, but I don't remember if mine is wide enough to not fall into the pot .

I'm with you on #10, it drives me bonkers! Also, #11, do NOT use large quantities of alcohol in the pot, it is extremely dangerous!

😅😂🤣 While I never did 1-9 of your warnings (I read the instructions a watched KZbin), I practice the #10 with delight 😇🙏🏻 How about "insta' pot"? I find the abbreviated pronunciation very handy, to the point and with the times. For those who love the combustion of consonants, go for it. I bet, in your head you also say "instant gram", do you? Happy and safe cooking to everyone ♥️🍚♥️
