Marvelous episode. I love the explanation for the origins of the word traitor.

16:49 "people who come up against Diocletian - they all seem to come to *_grisly ends!_* ..." True of Alexander the Macedonian in his last years too 🙈🙀😞 Even Aristotle's nephew got the chop! (They were outspoken in ancient Greece! ) Incidentally, I don't see the Alexander podcast on KZbin. Am wondering if its here, somewhere ... lurking.

My grandma is Croatian & she thinks that Diocletian, the guy responsible for the largest & bloodiest official persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire, was a good Croatian Catholic boy. 😹

And that Magdeburg was a jolly good laugh, presumably.

Excellent episode. I think there is a mistake at the end: Constantine was the son of Constantius, not his brother.

Diocletian would definitely like the ice cream sold in his palace. That’s one thing I do know

As a Croatian, I wished this was more to do with Croatia. The episode was informative but for this to be what you chose to talk about is a bit concerning

To be fair, people back then really didn't have a firm grasp of economics. That's a much more modern thing.

To be fair, there's still no such thing as having a firm grasp of economics. 😅

I wonder how Historians can resemble Croatians and Serbs with Roman Time. They know that they came in 4 Century. If the Illyicum Soldiers had an Ethnicity they are Albanians 🇦🇱, but British have a little bit Rasist Opinion about them

It's ridiculous that two adult, professional historians laugh idiotically at litter or poop jokes, like dumb teenagers.
