Another great video Kimberly! So many amazing tips. I wanted to add that another benefit of doing the “treat noise” is it could help you recall them if they happen to get away from you. They may just come running when you make the treat noise and, problem solved! I’m not a suggie mom yet but I used this trick with my rats that I owned in the past 😊

Amazing video since bonding is the hardest thing that new sugar glider owners struggle with!!

This was very helpful! I'm a new sugar glider mom, I tend to be the one who takes in the sick, unwanted and injured animals wherever I come across them. People around me know this, so my home is now the forever-home to two boys who spent their first five years with a family of four, a friend of mine and her husband and their two children. They had one lg. dog, and a cat, but were otherwise very bonded with their sugar gliders and had a quiet home for them. They were taken out of their cage quite often, as you show in your video here, with the doors closed to be on the bed and on the body of a family member, etc. or in a roaming ball which was clear and could go all over the floor. However, the family's focus shifted as the children grew and the sugar gliders were not getting any attention so they wanted to re-home them. That is how they came to me. Now they've been with me for almost three years and it has been a lot of learning for them and for me! I have had to figure out what their noises mean and what to feed them etc... But most of all how to help them feel safe (even though they have a lovely large enclosure) in a household with dogs, several cats, at one time there was a tortoise, a rabbit, and chickens outside! But now, through this journey, I have their enclosure in a separate room, I spend time with them each evening when I feed them, and they can roam the room, run on their wheel, and they run all over me, and come to me excitedly when I make the noise for their food prep! (Which is very exciting for me because they were afraid of me for a long time!) I do have a new behavior which has popped up though, and I can't find it in other research, maybe you could help. They have finally (I think) started to bond with me as their new human. I've seen it evolve, I've learned their noises, and seen the behavior develop. But, in addition to the little bites when they don't like something (which I haven't had too much of, since I've been very careful of not forcing any handling or anything on them) my friendliest little one, Romi, has started to bite and kind of "nest" in my hair! I go into the glider room to be with them at dinner time each evening and they have the cages and the room to themselves. I make kind of a tree bridge with my arms and they play on me between the two cages as they go back and forth and eat, and nibble at their fruit and play. The one who has always taken the lead in bonding first, Romi, he has started to come up my arm, then up my neck into my hair (I have very short hair) and he will nibble at my skin very lightly, then pull and swirl the hair around then bite hard! He's not making any crabbing sounds, he's not mad, I'm not moving to make him mad or scared, but then he just stays there and seems to make himself comfortable and keeps doing it! I have had to kind of move my head from side to side slowly so that he doesn't get too comfortable and moves on down to my other shoulder and across the "bridge" and leaves me to inspect my wounds to see if he's drawn blood! What I would like to know is...WHY? He doesn't bite anywhere else for the most part. They sniff and nibble, but hard bites? Nope. I would like to better understand this behavior. Do I want to channel this into something else? And if so, where should it go, in order to be a positive thing? And if not, what does it mean and how can I help him if it's a sign of something wrong? Ugh! Just when I thought we were doing better and everything was going smoothly. lol Thanks for any input you or your readers might be able to give.

Nice video. Funny you talked about sweatshirt training, my gliders love to crawl around in my sweatshirt too. Sometimes I want them to run around and play and get exercise in the tent but they just would rather play in my sweatshirt.

A few questions Kimberly! Thanks for this amazing video! 1. How much time did you spend with your gliders when you first got them? 2. Do you do most of their bonding during the day or in the evening? 3. How long did it take for your gliders to bond? Years? Months? 4. How often did you do bonding time? Hopefully you reply! Thanks for this video!!

Good morning, and super follow up bonding video! Do you "tuck" the bottom of your sweatshirt in to ensure they don't get out? I know you practice stay on me training as do I, however sometimes they just decide to say," let's go on an adventure and see how far we can go" 😅

OMG I thought something had gone wrong with the audio at first. I assume crabbing is when they make that weird "audio" sound. Not planning on getting one, just think that they are adorable. They really needs to be more videos about bonding with all types of pets. Too many people it seems don't know that the best way is to become friends like you would with other people. Then again, probably need more how to be friendly with people videos too.

Hi, so nice of your videos alway. Thank you for your help first, but but😹 I still you some questions which need you to help me solve. My glider will sleep deeply on my hand, groom in my hand, but when I put her into her cave she will not come to me. Or sometimes, she wants to leave me at once. So how to make her come to me forwardly when I put her a little far from me. Thank you so much.

OK what if I tried to push bonding way too soon? And now she thinks I'm the devil?? I just wanna love her but I did not give her a few days but she has snuggled into my hood and been really sweet with me but then all of a sudden she has been crabbing and biting a lot lately. She's fine in a pouch on my chest but anytime I try to actually touch her she starts crabbing. Any help would be so appreciated because I want to reverse the damage I've done. I've only had her for five days, so maybe I'm just being sensitive but I just wanna do right by her and your video is showing me that I didn't know as much as I thought I did

How can I get my gliders to allow me to hold them? They run away when I try to pick them up. They don't like the bonding glove they will only bite it

Are these tips the same when you purchase your sugar glides from a previous home and not a pet store or a breeder. I got two almost 7 month old gliders and wondering if it works the same way.

planning to get my first pair of boys, and i am a college student, was wondering if i could take them to class with me? classes are short and rooms are temp controlled, i wanna bond with them as much as possible!
@maddiemarlenemakeup83722 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t until they are at least pretty used to being in a bonding bag and being out in it with you (even just in the house) because in my experience sudden / too much movement would make my glider crab loudly because she was still scared and not used to being in a bonding pouch. Now I can put all 4 of my gliders in a bonding bag and take them literally anywhere and they are fine though! just wouldn’t want loud crabbing to happen for you in the middle of class!😂😩

my sugar glider always bites me but not in a way where he feels like he is doing it in self defense you know? its like he is playfully biting me. do sugar gliders playfully bite you?
@sugargliderdiaries2 жыл бұрын
Yes sometimes and it depends on the gliders personality and age. Mostly I consider those “exploration bites”

I can’t guarantee it will work for everyone or every glider. How long have you tried it? It can take awhile and a lot of consistency for some gliders.
