lol I know people are ragging on Cloud for going for hug... but think about who Cloud is. Last game, dude was stun locked when Tifa cried into his chest, could barely wrap his head around the idea that she was on him, let alone his arms for a good minute. Cloud not only bringing Tifa in for a hug, but then going to kiss her, speaks leaps and bounds for his development around Tifa.

As a Cloti Fan I wasn't expecting anything close to a kiss up to this point. I cried my effing heart out from excitement. (Spoiler incoming->) In the OG the story didn't focus at all on Cloud and Tifa to this point and in the optional date Tifa was interrupted by fireworks. So the Cloti content really just took off with Tifa and Cloud in the lifestream on disk 2. Which is all coming in Part 3 of the Remake. So I'm super happy, that the developer choose to lead to that moment with way more Cloud and Tifa content. Which makes sense, when you know whats about to happen. But it's still something I didn't expected.

I didn`t play the OG but I fell absolutly in Love with their relationship in the remake and I was so worried at the beginning of Rebirth. And than this scene came. I didn`t have to wait for years but I love all of it, even the hug, as it was a careful hug (in the Remake he hugged her and it was too tight, so he tried to be more careful). Funniest thing regarding this is that when it got leaked nobody believed it with all this LTD square does with ff7 it was unexpected and chapter 9 really does so good for this date option because there's no one to interrupt the moment anymore. I saw two different ones (both male streamers, which I thought was interesting) go on very passionate rants when they'd gotten to the end and realized Tifa had gotten a kiss and Aerith never does, but fans acknowledging this significant disparity even though they're on the side that got the shorter end of the stick is like a MILLION times better and more honest than the current online clerith copium where they're all collectively claiming that Cloud only kissed Tifa....... as a rebound....... because he thinks he doesn't have a chance with Aerith....... yeah idk they're all clenching hard.

Just like the OG game plainly tells you. From the minute you load up the game, her role in saving the planet requires her to die. She has no future (in the mortal realm). To answer the OP though, the reaction of the people on that side has just been lots of salt and copium. Just like the last 27 years lol. I don't know what they think is gonna happen this time. They aren't going to get a radical re-write of the entire story and themes which is what it would take.

@@yujin-1907 I thought I had heard the opposite, that they should all be considered canon for how Cloud would interact with each person, including Yuffie and the rest of the gang too. It hardly matters, the story simply doesn't allow for Cloud and Aerith to be a thing regardless of what the player prefers. Tifa's scenes might be optional, but they are the only romantic options. All those fans can hold on to is trying to hope Cloud and Tifa are apart because there's no outcome where Cloud and Aerith can ever be together. Which is really sad, they're hoping for a worse ending and future for the hero because they still can't cope after 27 years.

But if these dates are considered simply fanservice, then we'll just have to expect more intimate scenes between Cloud and Tifa in the next game. The devs need to build up to the Highwind scene. It would be crazy for Cloud and Tifa to jump immediately to a home run without sharing a non-optional on screen kiss before that. The devs need to make it even clearer that Cloud only has romantic feelings for Tifa. I thought they made it clear enough, but Cleriths didn't understand that Cloud friendzoned Aerith in the Zack date.

@@talmanes4589 As per Ultimania and dev team, the dates are slightly detached from the main story cause they are meant to be a fun side events for players to enjoy. Having said that, the team REALLY put a lot of effort into making sure that player choice didn't interfere with the overarching narrative. Which is why this reinforces what we have been saying: the dates play out he way they do because they are SUPPOSED to play out this way. The devs put a lot of thought into the dialogue choices to make sure they don't create any jarring contrivances or affect continuity, which is why they played out the way they did: they run parallel but within the story's overarching narrative. They were MADE to fit the story, and that's exactly what they are telling you in one part of the interview. "We sat down, thought long and hard, and came up with things that are realistic to our world, our characters, and their emotions." In another part of the interview, Nojima says "The date event portrays much deeper relational developments with Cloud". So yeah, the dates are side events but Cloud's actions and reactions during them are 100% canon and according to his canon emotions and the nature of his bond with the characters he goes said dates with.

@talmanes4589 In the remake they’ve fleshed out Tifa a lot but in the original there was a lot to suggest Aerith was the love interest, and practically nothing to suggest Tifa was. She was less story important than all of the other mandatory characters and up until a few years ago all people ever talked about were her pixels so it’s surprising suddenly everyone is saying that was the greatest love story since the titanic. It was just a bunch of boys who liked her character model for obvious reasons. I personally never saw Cloud with either of them. Still even here, I would think “you will lose what you cherish most” is pretty clear who the canon love interest is.

Gaslighting is what Aerith fans have been doing to the rest of the fanbase with their fanfiction for almost 3 decades. So it’s clear that you only played disc 1 then stopped after the second Gold Saucer visit… Tifa is a main character you literally play as her during the Mideel arc? In the original game Cloud and Aerith get two dates then she dies. As opposed to Tifa who gets two dates and the Mideel arc, Cloud’s subconscious, and the Highwind scene. There’s actually less in the OG that eludes to Cloud having any feelings for Aerith than in the Remake project. It sounds like you just dislike Tifa for some reason? Probably because again, just like in OG she’s the only character that gets a clear indication of how Cloud feels about them.
