Four brilliancies in 5 moves, paving the way for a mate in 2, which he then misses - Alireza is truly a special player.
@soakedbearrdАй бұрын
Incredibly intuitive, but not necessarily a strict calculator. I know because that’s my style as well (to a MUCH lesser degree of course).
@TheMetaMindsetChannelАй бұрын
Honestly did he miss the mate? Or did he just want to play that fancy pawn push, allowing black to sac his queen without even having to take the queen? I don’t know but honestly those last few lines were killer

@soakedbearrd True. I don't think anyone would ever accuse Alireza anyway but yeah, in general watching players doing blitz - especially OTB - gives you a real appreciation of their abilities as it gets to the point it's so fast you know there's no way they could be cheating.

That bishop on f4 looked quite harmless. Seems to me Alireza had some experiences with that bishop facing the queen.
@cordobadebearАй бұрын
I’ve actually had a similar game like this on rapid online, when I sacked my queen and endangered two other pieces early on, to then completely demolish opponent’s position and mate, it must be a confluence of a defensive arrangement of the opponent, and flow state of your play with clarity of mind at that time
@epicchess2021Ай бұрын
Nice and Confluence and flow state are awesome expressions! 😁

Quite frankly, Nxf7 is the first move that comes to mind here. In bullet (or even 3+0) I would play it right away, without calculation. Even if it turns out to be wrong, but even if there was a catch, it would be hard to find for the opponent under short time constraints

As much I am appreciative of chess masters, I'm not a fan of rapid or blitz. They're great for folks that can instantly remember and recognize all the structured openings/traps/gambits out there studied and retained like someone studies for a jeopardy game, perhaps a college exam, as opposed to strategy and long term problem solving... which honestly most traditional games can still be played under 30 minutes without so many blunders and missed opportunities.
