270 degree awning on 5th gen 4runner

I am having the same issue with my 4runner. I ordered a OVS 270 and could only raise the tailgate halfway so i ordered a 180 which works great with a Gobi roof rack with Gobi mounts. I'd like to find a way to use the 270 though but may have to just sell it.

The only way I know how is to build a mount that lifts the awning higher than the back hatch.

Can you push it forward to get more clearance? It looked like the bar was at an angle so pushing it forward might help? On my Xterra Pro-4x build I went with Ironman 6x8 awning mounted on the passenger side. I can use the hatch and the awning with a small gap that's uncovered.

Yea, I am thinking a 6x8 is a far better idea. I've tried to push it further forward, but the hatch still hits the awning. I think the only thing i could do is raise the awning mounts up about 4 inches.

I caught the 25% off sale at Ironman and bought the awning and zip on tent room. With the sale it was like getting the tent for free (sale is ongoing right now). So far I've been happy with both and I still have my Gazelle T3 that I used in the LJ if I choose to bring it. I'm not a fan of RTT's since I'm always concerned with weight up high so these set ups work the best for me. I do have am internal build out planned for the spring that will allow me to sleep in the rig and still allow bike storage inside as well.@@EmbarkWithMark

The 23Zero falcon awning alleviates the problem due to the design of the arms. I can lift my hatch fully without hitting the awning bars.

I am having the same issue with the large OVS 270 degree awning on my Teardrop trailer and the rear galley hatch door. Gonna try to space the OVS awning mounts (which look surprisingly similar to the ones you have) up on the Rhino Rack Pioneer in 1 inch increments until I can get the galley door open completely. 🤷‍♂️

Yea, that is the only thing I can think of to fix the issue. For me, I am going to ditch the 270 awning on the 4runner and go for something else.

I ordered a 270 awning from ovs and had to cancel due to this exact same issue you just confirmed for me thanks, ordering a 180 awning from them.

Use a tie down to keep the hatch from going full up could be an easy solution
