Owning both an EV and a diesel makes a lot of sense - we keep our Kia Ceed SW diesel for long journeys or the rare occasions when we need both cars. As the Ceed does almost 70mpg on long runs, it actually works out cheaper than taking the EV and using public charging, plus no stress and anxiety over whether the chargers are ICEd or not working. Conversely the EV saves a lot of wear and tear from short journeys on the diesel.

Yeah, I think the fact we have a diesel makes life a bit easier for us on those rare occasions we make longer journeys as a family. That we already have the diesel is handy but I don't think I'd go out and actively buy another petrol or diesel if we needed to replace it though. I'll keep it for a few more years to make the most out of our investment but I would be more than happy to replace it with a larger EV with a bit more range than the Corsa eventually.

Hi,great down earth review,are you worried at about the reports about ev fires ?? The only way for customers to know about problems is if a dealer was told even if they can't replicate it so I would let the dealer/vauxhall know about the screen ? Did you complain to dealer about charging stop/start at home ? If your charging on the roads at extra expence what do you think about the incoming road tax ? Thanks

I'm not concerned about EV fires at all. Considerably lower risk than driving around with 60 litres of highly flammable liquid anyway! I did speak to the dealer about the charging issues. They updated the car's software, it didn't help but I think it was likely just related to the chargers themselves. I haven't had any such issues with public chargers over the last year so things are getting a lot better. Incoming tax is fine, it was always going to be a temporary exemption and even EV drivers have to pay for the upkeep of those potholes :)

An EV and a diesel works for us, but our EV is an 11 year old Leaf with a 60 mile range, which isn't practical for long trips. However a car like this Corsa with a 180mile range has more than enough range for most people in the UK. You're not going to get caught out by a broken/blocked charger unless you leave it to the last few percent and then rely on a car park in the middle of nowhere with a single charger. If you're doing a long trip, you're probably charging on the motorway, where each service station has lots of chargers, and you've probably got a dozen service stations in a trip that long. Obviously there are edge cases, like sales reps doing 200+ miles every day, or people towing caravans, etc, but for most people, we've reached the point where you can get an affordable EV that is practical as your only car.

@@robinbennett5994 update on the above - we px-ed the diesel and bought a Skoda Enyaq 80 (300+ mile range in summer), so now 2x EV household. We've done a few really long journeys in it now, but I still carefully plan journeys. While the extra range does buy flexibility, planning ahead means it's possible to use better value chargers (ie Tesla), avoid chargers which have been reported broken on ZapMap/Plugshare and avoid needing to charge in black spot areas where there's a lot of contention for the chargers that are available. Some areas of the country, for example The Lake District are still enough to induce range anxiety, even as someone who got used to driving around in a Zoe with just 60 miles range, like your Leaf!

Great review and very thorough.I hired a petrol version 2 years ago and drove it from Brighton to Torquay to pick up my car.It was around a 5 1/2 hour drive.It was lovely.Only a 1.2 engine with the 8 speed gearbox was very smooth and quite responsive.My partner is looking into getting either a Mokka e or the Corsa e.All cars have niggles I guess but sometimes Vauxhall seem to cut corners as if to say "that'll do" type attitude.Its going to be another 18 months until she cahnges it but food for thought all the same.

Love our Corsa E.. you can update firmware using a USB stick as well. I did it and it took a while. Good second hand prices on top. Very efficient car and good fun to drive.

Ordered my corsa E ultimate brand new 11 months ago and its finally ready this Friday. I cant wait. Vauxhall have discontinued alot of the colours and the dog leg gear selector, it has now been replaced with a 3 way switch. The cars on motability so I'm grateful to have a 23 plate car. But I'd be pissed if I payed upfront for the car and then to find out alot of the stuff isn't in the car when I ordered it.

Great video, fair and unbiased. I'm a Vauxhall Sales Consultant and it's always a fun challenge getting people on the EV train so to speak, and I can tell you that Vauxhall is fully heading in the right direction with Electric (and they are also working on Hydrogen Technology too, but I won't delve into that here). The brand new Corsa launched recently with a long range version, which should do 250~ miles on a full charge and the new Astra Electric will also do about the same. It would be worth your time to perhaps try and test drive both these models once your local retailer gets them on their demonstrator fleet (within the next 12 weeks)

I have been keeping an eye on the new ranges coming out and whilst I applaud the progress Vauxhall are making towards electrification, I have to comment on their price points. The new Corsa starts from £36k, the Astra is even more (£39k?). A Tesla Model 3 starts at about £42k. At those prices you would be mad to buy a Vauxhall over a Tesla. I paid £22.5k for my Corsa and that is expensive but reasonable and justifiable when comparing running costs with an equivalent petrol over 5 years. More than that though and the numbers don’t add up.

Quite fair honest review I've driven a petrol one found it a claustrophobic experience though it was smooth & quiet I wouldn't have changed my Jazz for it. I thought EVs were virtually maintenance free? So wouldn't rush into the service network. The practical range is disappointing even my motorcycle can get to 200 miles. The charging through the app sounds less than ideal I thought you vould programme EVs to charge and stop to suit how you want to manage the battery. How's the cars residuals as if used buyers aren't keen to own they will struggle have you been shopping for a part ex or got a book price? Sounds good as a second vehicle how would you feel if it was your only car?

You might want to check out my other videos, I had quite a bit of hassle with this Corsa in the end and it's been swapped for an MG4. The MG4 is far more reliable in terms of range despite having roughly the same quoted range. As an only car in theory it would be fine, but the unreliability of the Corsa overall means it wouldn't have been great. The MG4 we have now would be pretty good as an only car.

We've just replaced our 22kwh Zoe after 4 years of ownership. Honestly, just 60 Miles of range was absolutely fine for 95% of our journeys. Our new MG ZS has a similar range to your Corsa, which allows us the flexibility to leave some room in the battery for charging from solar. We also had a similar issue with going into reverse with our Zoe. Eventually we traced it to the 12V battery, which are the Archilles Heel of EVs. Gave that a charge and the problem went away. I eventually put a better quality 12V battery in myself, which lasted longer and cost less than the ones Renault fit themselves every 3 years during servicing.

It was a pre-reg 20 plate and cost £22.5k. I think I sold it for £6700 (top of my head, can't find the paperwork) to We Buy Any Car for a quick sale, so I took a hit there as you might expect. Can't say I'd be keen on another Stellantis car for a while after the issues I had with this one towards the end, but I'm sure most people don't have a problem.

I am STRONGLY considering buying a used 2020 Corsa-e. I drive 100km a day, 3 times a week. the rest of the week I drive less than 20km. and I understand the realistic range of the corsa is ~270-280km. so that fits. this will be a 2nd car for pretty much just myself. I have 7 kids so we got a big car for "journeys". I see the 2020 electic 208 is about the same price. colors a bit less cool but I can live with it - any reason to pick one or the other?

They are both essentially the same car, just cosmetic differences really. If you do get one, I strongly recommend you buy a used car warranty insurance package. Check out the other videos about the Corsa on my channel because things went very wrong and I've ended up getting rid of it.

Excellent review! I'm considering one to replace my diesel Fiesta. I live in an apartment and can't charge at home (yet) but mostly cycle to work. The majority of my miles I do on holidays, where I travel 2500 miles in 3 weeks (when I travel from Sweden to Italy and Switzerland). I wish the range was a bit more, and the consumption a bit lower still. Unfortunately there is almost 0 competition in this price and size class, despite all the "promises", they (small Tesla, VW ID.2) all seem years away. For me living alone, I need a car that fits my road bike and some luggage, so a Fiesta sized car fits my bill perfectly.

I’m 5ft 9in and it feel quite spacious for a small car to me. I put the seat all the way back but that’s a preference and I can drive it with the seat further forward if needed. Still room to sit behind me when the seat is all the way back. We’ve done many long journeys now as a family of 4 (two teenagers in the back) and no complaints from the passenger (about comfort!)

I think I want one of these. They're the first non-fugly EV you can get cheap second hand, and they boast (variously 7.6-8.1 sec 0-60). I have a FIAT Bravo mapped to 185 BHP that can do that time, and I do love it, but it has a habit of breaking every couple of weeks. It makes me wonder how a 150kg heavier corsa with 50 less BHP can actually be quicker, so I think I will have to test drive one before I commit. I guess it's to do with linear power delivery and no need to shift. I will miss the gear lever, but so long as it has the right-foot happy button, I will not miss the endless hours lying under it with dirt and oil leaks in your eyes.

Nice to see a balanced video about the Corsa e. Ours is a 2022 July car and are it's second owners. Had the same problem with the main screen, freezes and won't do anything until you turn the car off. So far we have covered over 11,500 miles . When fully charged in summer ( not winter ) it shows 185 miles in normal mode and add extra 10 if eco mode. Great car just the boot is a bit small .

I have had my Corsa e for over 3 years. I took delivery after the first lockdown in 2020. My car has had 3 updates which have made the car much more economical and has improved the performance of the HVAC. I am currently getting 4.5 miles/ kW. All urban driving using regen as much as possible. At motorway speeds I get 3.7. In the winter these figures drop by 30%. Not good. I let the battery drop to 30% and then charge overnight during the 4hours cheap tariff from Octopus which gives me another 60%. When away from home I try to charge at hubs which have several chargers. This way I am never disappointed. Never had connectivity problems. The only problems I have had have been with the central locking and the child proof locking mechanism. The dealer has never been able to fix these as they are random and never happen when you need them too. The performance is great. My car has ordinary number plates so nobody knows it is electric. My next car will have a bigger battery. My preference will be for a car with 250 to 300 miles range and the ability to preheat the battery in winter. I bought it thinking I had a 50kW battery. The deal I got buying it was fantastic. Free wall box for home. £4500 pounds from the government. An extra £2000 from the dealer and a very good exchange on my diesel Juke. That won’t happen again. There is no way I would go back to a fossil car. It is such a delight to drive, and comfortable. Thanks for you video.

@@SpeakToTheGeekTech I had the same problem with screen not turning on/stayin on Vauxhall logo in my 2018 Corsa E... And whenever I had this problem, there was two options to fix this.. 1. Disconnect the battery for 5-15min, and then plug the battery again 2. Switch off the ignition, get out of ther car, Lock the car and then I had to wait a good 20min untill, everything back to normal... So its looks like The Electric version of the Corsa has some of the same problems form the previous generation of this car which is really really weird...

There are quite a few cheap Corsa-e's on Auto Trader right now. Typically £12.5k will get you a 2020 model with 30k miles on the clock. I was half tempted to have a look at one but your honest review has put me right off! Perhaps I've become too used to driving Japanese cars (where basically everything works out of the box) over the last 36 years. I think I'd just find the Corsa-e too irritating.

I personally don't have any issues with the windscreen or sun visor. I'm 5'9 for reference. If I'm being picky, the pillar is quite wide but not problematically so. I had a Toyota Yaris before and I think the visibility and comfort in the Corsa is better than that.

Just got mine and I like it, but how do you lock it while it's charging? The manual says pressing the lock button will stop the charging. So you basically have to sit in the car while it's juicing up!?

Not in mine, I just get out and lock it and walk off. If you're charging AC then unlocking the car while it's charging will stop the charging... it'll start again on its own, but on a public AC charger it might make you do the payment thing again which is annoying. However on a DC rapid charger you can lock and unlock the car all you want, it doesn't stop the charge until you stop it on the charger itself.

The schedule on the car or on the GivEnergy charger? I don't use the car scheduling, only the charger scheduling and it's pretty straightforward: disable plug & go so as it doesn't charge as soon as you plug it in, make sure the max charge current is up as high as you want it and max charge energy is disabled, then create a schedule for when you want it to charge and mark it as active (you can have lots of schedules but only one active at a time). If you have issues then drop a note in the GivEnergy Battery and EVC Owners Facebook group where there are a lot of people (including GivEnergy employees in their spare time) who can help out.

It's a great car and can be had for an absolute bargain second hand now (under £9k I've seen it). We've now done over 40,000 miles in it. Home charging and loads of local journeys for that is no hassle at all. Occasional public charging issues but I don't know if it's the car or the chargers tbh. I've not had the screen issue in ages now.

When a car the size of a corsa can do at least 350 true miles I’ll think about it. And when my council gives permission for my grade 2 listed house to have a charger on it I’ll also consider it. Until then, for me, it’s a pipe dream at least 10 years away.

Yeah it's not for everyone yet, but those issues will all get resolved eventually. The range on the cars is improving at a massive rate with each new model that comes out, and Chinese models are pushing what is possible giving traditional manufacturers a run for their money. We do about 20,000 miles/year between our cars, and 75% of those are electric. We are able to easily switch that much economically, but that last 25% is too expensive for us switch so our limited funds are better spent elsewhere improving our carbon footprint - such as switching our heating system. If switching to an electric car isn't viable for you, have a look at where else you could make a big impact instead within your means :)

I looked at an e-bike before I considered an EV. My commute is about 25 miles, lots of steep hills, lots of rain and strong winds, nowhere to charge bike at work.. Unfortunately it just didn't suit my circumstances. I also need to carry heavy equipment around sometimes. However once e-bikes give you more range, more power, and there are places to re-charge where I need to go I'll consider it again. @@MrWobling

Well that would give away the details of an upcoming video! Loads of choice though now for small electric family cars. The Leaf uses Chademo for public DC charging which I'm told is not an issue by people who own them, but all new chargers are CCS so I'd prefer cars which support that.

In my circumstances- already owning the Corsa, charging 99% of the time at home off-peak, running the Corsa is still cheaper. My original cost comparison for justifying the move to electric was based on buying a similar petrol car (I.e. a petrol Corsa of similar spec). Over 5 years (my loan period) it worked out about 20% cheaper to buy and run the electric one. Comparing to the Duster over that period might be unfair as it’s a very different vehicle, but we have shifted most of our mileage to the electric to make the most of it. We do 15k miles/year electric, 5k miles/year diesel now whereas before it was all petrol and diesel. Everyone’s use case is different though

I'll stay with my 20 year old Vauxhall Combo Diesel. It has 470,000 miles under its tyres. Im a mobile detailer in the UK. I hired a Nissan EV van for a month. I gave the thing back after 2 weeks because I was having to cancel appointments and loosing money. I cannot charge at home so even if I bought one. I'd be reliant on public charging (Its expensive, more expensive than my diesel van that burns 25p worth of diesel per mile). The EV van allegedly had a 200 mile range. On a typical day. I drive 150miles per day. Except. Once I'd loaded the van for work inc the water tank. I was getting 50 miles from a charge. I had to charge the thing 3 times per day! Thats 4 to 5 hours wasted per day!. My average day with the EV: Take missus to work. She comes home on the bus. Charge the van... Yawn. Do 1st job... Drive to the charge point, wait in a 3 or 4 deep queue and eventually charge the van. Cancel 2nd job because of the charging issue. Charge the van so its ready for taking the missus to work. If we did any socialising, shopping etc... I'd need to visit the charger again before turning in for the night or we wouldnt have enough juice to take the missus to work in the morning. Charging the van isnt just the time charging the thing. Theres the time to drive to the charge point (not many around here, even fewer working). Waiting for a charger to be available if someone is already there. I have been 5 deep in a queue. I really despair for the future. EV's are not good enough. The range is too short and the charge time too long. public charging facilities are sketchy at best. I live in a city of 320,000 people. My nearest public charge point is 8 miles away, there is just 2 points. The next charge points are a further 10 miles away across the city. Why cant I pay with cash for electric charging? I hate apps and card payments.

Im glad i did not get one of these, the top spec can be had for 13.5k used with 15k miles some bit lower or a bit higher, sat in one and god its drab, and the screens are crap too tiny speed screen boxed in. And the main screen is horrible and looks dated and the nav map does not even go full screen making it look cheap. Not worth even 13k to me tbh

I guess each to their own there. The screens are both big enough in my opinion and the built in sat nav is fine, however I just plug my phone in and use CarPlay instead. The interior could be fancier but it is a Corsa so is probably aimed at being as widely acceptable as possible which would have a knock on effect of being less quirky and more boring. It’s a car, it gets our family around every day cheaply and reliably, that’s all I really need from it.

I used my e-Corsa for six months long. Worst electric car what I have ever used. The range was the worst. I could reach the 175 miles without AC at 60 mph speed. If I dare to use the ventilation (not the heating!) to clear the fog from the windscreen, the range went down to 85 miles! Less than half! The car was not reliable...I got faulty emergency breaking system, lane assistant, ABS...etc. The phone app paralized my car, the AA restarted the computer. Avoid the e-Corsa!!!

It does sound like you may have a faulty car. Mine is still going strong with no issues or concerns other than those I highlighted in this video last year. I easily get 140 miles on a 70mph run with everything on.

Hello. I talked with many e-Corsa and Peugeot 208 owners at charging points. They got same experience. The range is 80-90 miles at winter. I reported the "issue" to the Vauxhall dealership, they said: "sorry, It is normal."

I must be in the minority then I guess. I've had this car over two winters now and there's no way it ever had that little range. Possibly at its worse I got 120 miles once but generally 140 miles was realistic. I certainly never got as low as your quoted 80-90 miles. After covering that distance I'd still have a decent amount of charge remaining.

@@SpeakToTheGeekTech Owned mine for 3 years and 48.000 miles now. No significant issues, just minor niggles and overall happy with my choice. Summer range about 180 miles, winter range about 130. I drive about 70 miles a day for work so this is perfect. I charge at home (this is essential for EV ownership I think, to get the best value from one). With my annual mileage, I save about £1500 a year on fuel vs the old diesel, so you can see how the upfront purchase price is offset by the fuel costs, but it depends what you pay and how many miles you drive. If you drive a lot less or a lot more, you'll probably still be better off with an ICE (both financially and practically) but EV's can be a good choice for many, especially if you can charge at home and maybe if you have two cars. If you can't charge at home it can be more challenging to live with and significantly more expensive - I mean would you pay 5 to 7 times more for your petrol than you can at your local supermarket - of course you wouldn't. We only drive our other car (VW Tiguan) when we need to - it's become the 2nd car / backup.

The issues are annoying, but given that I could have purchased two Corsas for the price of a Model 3 I can overlook them! The car works as a car.

Well we don't need two cars because the Corsa is small, two cars are very handy because we're a family of four with two teenagers in an area with poor public transport links. I imagine that in 4-5 years when they're grown up, we'll just have one car as a couple.. It would likely be bigger than the Corsa, but not as big as the Duster. We only need the space in the Duster maybe 2-3 times a year - nearly every journey we make could be done in the smaller Corsa. I'm really not seeing the size of the Corsa as a limitation for us really here - seems daft us having a second larger car . I'm not trying to tell you it's right for you either, but you are making assumptions on our circumstances and finances... If you don't like the Corsa, don't get the Corsa, nobody is making you!
