We make our FINAL sail in the Caribbean Sea and enter the breakwater of the Panama Canal Zone. Pulling into Shelter Bay Marina is surreal as we have talked about this for SO long. But, will a medical emergency put an end to our sailing career? Is this it? Check out our video to find out!
We would MUCH appreciate your supporting our efforts by SUBSCRIBING, and giving a THUMBS UP, and SHARING our videos with your friends!

NEW TO OUR CHANNEL?
We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our NEW life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we have very little sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.
So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!
As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!
If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, and SHARE our videos with your friends!

Shelter Bay Marina is great. They should offer freezer service so our tiny freezers have an actual chance of keeping fresh meat and stuff frozen.

Consider ARP-Wave Therapy and the methods found in ‘Heal Your Own Neck and Back: The McKenzie Method. I had TWO herniated discs (L4-L5, L5-S1) from a car accident. I had 6 cortisone shots (because of insurance) but I did not do surgery. I was doing backflips on a trampoline 3 years later, I was 37 at the time I healed. I’m 54 now, it flares up from time to time if I overdue stuff like sit too long or pull/lift the wrong way. But I’m glad I didn’t do surgery. Also, sit with a rolled up towel at your lower back or use tennis balls to keep your lordorsis (curve at small of your back)

Thank you SO much for your personal account. We really appreciate it. Thankfully, we have opted not to have the surgery and Brown is doing much better. His back is healing and he is working on core strength to help in the future. He is being very careful with any lifting as well. We hope this challenge is behind us, but you never know!! Thank you again!!

I'm 64yo and my back problems started around 20. I toughed it out until I couldn't get out of bed 1/3 of the days and got L-spine fusion at 46 and another surgery to open up nerve passages at 52. One thing that helped delay the first surgery for 5-7 years was acupuncture. I wish I could have delayed it longer but could not. I seriously recommend trying to delay any surgeries as long as possible. I have some home treatments that I alternate in addition to the physical therapy stretches and exercises. A) inversion table that allows a person to hang (at angle) by your ankles. B) Mini TENS (massager) unit that sends pulses through 2 conductive skin pads (newest one cost $30 on Amazon) C) Stretching over a 30" exercise ball A store bought Inversion table likely wouldn't work on the boat but maybe you could rig something up. The ball takes alot of space too.

Wow. Thanks for sharing your story! We are so thankful that Brown’s back continues to heal and it appears that he won’t need surgery! He will be very careful and work on core to strengthen the muscles that support the back!! We wish you well!

So glad to hear that Brown's back is doing better and you are on your way to the FP! Take good care of it and stay on top of core/stretching/PT. This is coming from a guy that has had 4 spine surgeries and 6 levels fused or artificial discs. I regret ever getting anything done and it took a long time to realize that this is a for profit business with the patient's best interest not always at the forefront. I dream of sailing full time in 3 years, but question if it will become a reality. All the best!

Thank you SO much for your message and encouragement!! We are so thankful Browns back is healing and that we had a second opinion who said don’t do the surgery!! We are so sorry for your back challenges. Hindsight is always 20-20. We hope you are able to fulfill your dream of sailing!

Brown, glad to see the back is doing good. Were you able to figure out what you did that caused it to flare up? Safe travels ......

Thanks! Yes, it is SO much better. I lifted a heavy locker while I was twisted causing the initial herniation. I didn't know what it was and thought it was muscular so I didn't rest/change my routine. Only after serving as a line handler through the Panama Canal did it get really bad - enough to go to a doctor. Thanks for asking.

Wow, you guys have a lot going on. Sciatic issues are no joke. Curious is chiropractic along with acupuncture might help. So much to plan and provision. Are you considering having any friends/crew accompany you across the pacific?

Stick with hydrotherapy and easy exercises with lots of stretching. I've had a microdiscectamy after years of back pain from herniated disc's. After that the ortho wants to fuse three vertebrae together. Long story short, surgery made it worse and they want me to do a much more invasive surgery to fix the first surgeries failure. DON'T DO IT...
