Those big logs did look like a lot of work but worth it. You are right about getting warm twice from firewood but it is good to do. The growth rings were interesting

Nothing is too big for a Massey to handle! But it was pretty big for me to try to lift by hand onto the splitter...

I had some people ask if it was a few other species, and I think black locust might be the winner after comparing. Bark was really thick for any maples, and the wood grain wasn't right for maples that I have experience with. Thanks for commenting!

@@FabbedFun Definitely Black Locust. The bark texture, wood color, big growth rings, and the irregular shape of the round are all tell tales. I bet the bark was also really tough to cut. Black Locust is tough on chains. Great firewood!

That's an amazing black locust. They usually die before they get anywhere near that big. Great mallet wood.

That’s a big one Logan. A real crowd pleaser. The screen saver on my old phone was a picture of my L2501 dragging up a limb off of a white oak that went over in a big wind storm. That limb was 28 inches in diameter. Is that a soft maple?

I think Casey at BuildALotAcres nailed it with Black Locust, but I don't hear of a lot of Locust in my area. This was harvested about 30 miles or more from my house, though...
