윈튼 마살리스 밴드의 색소폰 연주자의 도움으로 아무도 들어갈수 없는 윈튼의 대기실에 들어가서 윈튼 앞에서 연주하고, 윈튼의 칭찬과 선물을 받았습니다.
4살때 트럼펫을 시작한 이래로 아빠와 다경이의 꿈이 이루어지는 순간이었습니다.
With the help of a saxophonist from the Wynton Marsalis band, we entered Wynton's waiting room where no one could enter, played in front of Wynton, and received Wynton's praise and gifts.
Ever since she started playing the trumpet when she was 4 years old, it was the moment when her dad and Dakyoung's dreams come true.

This little woman's potential is scary. She plays music, not just "jazz". Excellent technique, interpretation, rhythm, she is at least the equal of most adult trumpeters I have known. Bittersweet to see that jazz is still growing and developing worldwide, while being almost ignored and forgotten in the country where it was born.

우연히 보고 깜작 놀라서 다경이 트럼펫 더 들어보려고 왔어요! 말살리스가 극찬을 하네요. 1. 재즈 연주가에게 최고의 칭찬이 박자랑 귀 인데요....윈튼 말살리스가 정말 믿을수없게 박자가 정확하다고 극찬을 했어요. 대학교에서 가르치는 선생님들도 박자가 좋다고 정도의 칭찬을 받으면 정말 입 벌리고 좋아할정도인데...최고의 칭찬입니다. (단순히 마디안에 네바다주를 지켜서 연주한다는 의미보다 박자를 세분하고 정확히 나눠서 연주하고 인터벌을 항상 유지하는 능력까지 말하는 것 같아요) 2. ‘귀’를 칭찬하는 건 천재라고 대접하는 거죠. 저는 헨리유투브에 나온 다경이 연주를 보고 귀가 정말 좋구나 감탄했었는데 말살리스 같은 거장이 다경의 영재성을 칭찬해주시는거 보니까 정말 다경이는 축복받고 태어난 귀가 맞네요. 특히나 트럼펫 트럼본은 정말 귀가 좋아야 한다던데 다경이는 굉장히 정밀하게 듣는 귀를 가졌나봐요..아마 노래도 그래서 잘하는 거겠죠. 3. 음악안에서 theme을 잘 발전시킨다는 것은 멜로디나 작은 동기(모티브)를 연주 속에서 작은 변화들로 연결 시키면서 임프로바이즈 연주를 잘한다는 소리입니다. 같은 코드 안에 있다고 생뚱맞게 떨어진 연주를 하는것이 아니라 이미 제시된 theme을 재료로 삼아서 원곡의 분위기를 유지하면서 연주를 발전 시키고 있다는 소리입니다. 4. 12바를 정확히 이해하고 있다는 칭찬은 다경이에겐 너무나 당연한 소리지만요. 그게 단순히 코드가 몇번 바뀌고 턴어라운드가 어디서 이뤄지는 지를 기억하고 연주한다는 의미를 넘어서 즉흥연주에서의 12마디 배치를 생각하면서 연주한다는 칭찬같네요. (기승전결을 코드변화에따라서 배치하고 12마디를 연주할 수 있는 점을 칭찬하는 것 같아요) 의외로 그냥 계속 막 연주하다가 5도 화음 들라면 아 이제 턴어라운드, 아니면 내 순서 끝 이렇게 연주하는 사람들도 많으니까요. 트럼펫은 앞으로 다경이의 음악을 표현하는 수단에 불과해 질것같네요. 악기는 언어같은게 된다고 하지 않습니까? 정말 큰 음악가로 잘 자라길 가대하겠습니다. 미국 살고있는 재즈팬으로 10여년 전에 그레이스 켈리 (한국계 알토 색스)를 첨 봤을때, 그레이스는 지금의 다경이 보다는 몇 살 더 많았던것 같은데 그때 받았던 충격과 감동 이상을 다경이 연주에서 받았습니다. 앞으로도 응원할께요

I heard the full story on Henry Lau's channel. The dad snuck her behind security to try to get the chance to perform for Wynton, because she was a huge fan already, and just told her "Play!" when the first person walked out the door. The guy in the beginning is Wynton's saxophonist and is on a video call with his wife when he walked out the door. Also, he may not have been the most eloquent, as many of us aren't when speaking to people in a foreign country, but the way he bowed and how long he held it lets you know that he has been taught about bowing and wanted to show respect for her. 😍🥰🎺🎺

걱정해주셔서 감사합니다. 근데 저는 모든 사람이 다경이의 노래와 연주를 좋아해줄 것이라는 기대는 안합니다. 다만 아직 다경이가 어리니까 상처받을지도 모른다는 걱정은 하지만, 워낙 다경이 성격이 털털해서 그것도 크게 걱정하지는 않습니다. 다행인것은 다경이를 걱정해주시는 분은 계시지만 의도적으로 악플을 다시는 분은 아직 안 계시네요. 혹시 계시더라도 크게 신경안쓰겠습니다. 다경이를 좋아해주시는 대부분의 분들이 계시니까요. ^^

Okay...I just sold my clarinet. 76 years old and I still never attained the tone Dakyoung Kwak has now...:(( Wynton Marsalis is to my mind the best technical jazz trumpeter I've heard. He is not making his comments just to please the parents. The shape of her mouth (embouchure ), the tone, the timing...those are genuine. My respect for Dakyoung Kwak and for Mr. Marsalis went up even more ! This is lovely to see. ps: I see her name spelled two ways...I hope I got it correct.

He was also a CHILD PRODIGY., and a student of the World Renown JULIARD SCHOOL OF MUSIC. Versed in both CLASICAL and JAZZ music. If you haven't as yet, check him out on KZbin playing works of the masters with Symphony Orchestras. (His younger brother BRANFORD MARSALIS is also a music wizard. If I remember well he plays Saxophone.) He is also a GENTLEMAN.., it is just wonderful to see how he showed his appreciation in such a warm and loving way towards the little lady genius. Indeed WOW!

Wyton Marsalis, one of the most respected, widely considered the best Jazz/classical trumpeter in the world, a man who has Doctor of Music degrees from over 20 universities, including Juliard, Yale, Brown, UPenn, Harvard, NYU, Amherst, there are too many to name! says about you... "she's a natural," "fantastic on many levels," "she has unbelievably good time," "she has really good ears," "I have tremendous respect for her," "tell her I want to get a picture of her so it can make me famous." Imagine hearing that from your hero at 9 years old. Talent recognizes talent, if Wyton says Dakyoung's this good, he's probably right, and one day we'll be watching her concerts on tv.

He also said, "____....perfect formation up and down," "she has unbelievably good time, plays good in time," "she has good control of all the notes in every measure," "she plays with thematic development, she plays themes," "also she finished the form exactly right, for 12 bars, so I know she has really good ears." "Tell her she's a baby now, but she get to be [older]...she gone be playing just as good, tell her it's not gonna make a difference." Lastly, I think when Wyton looked at you, he was doing it to look into your eyes and get the measure of you, as person, as a musician, he was taking the time to connect so that he could remember you.
