If people really lived that long and the Bible says they had kids after 100 years old, why did Abraham think it was impossible for him to have kids when he was only 75 years old?

my guess he probably looked a lot older at 100 compared to Shem at 100. I kind of think after the flood not only did lifespan decrease but people aged faster. Bible never said it but that is my thought

I wonder how many young earth creationists are surprised when they see his videos like this where he's using science to defend literal interpretation of Scripture. Does it cause them to want to take his views about Job and the other Creation texts in relationship to Genesis more seriously, seeing that he has such a high view of Scripture? Or do they keep calling him a compromiser??

I'm a Christian and I believe that Adam and Eve were created perfect and so wouldn't of died if they hadn't sinned. When they did their genes were corrupted as the centuries passed their dna was less and less perfect so by the time of Abraham men were living less than 200 years. Its pretty simple really. I absolutely believe the ages in the bible were written down to show us what a perfect life could of been endless youth and energy. But old age and death is the result of this sin.

it's actually really simple, climate change, u know before the flood the earth is covered by this humid or to say it in the simplest form, the perfect atmosphere! and after the flood and climate change and all, humans become more exposed to the harmful UV rays and etc. of the sun!

I really appreciate the efforts to simplify this for consumption by more people. However, I believe that the study of telomeres in eukaryotic species is a bit high brow for many people questioning life span and the Bible. So, the audience stays small. Did man live to 900? No. The aging process is controlled and determined by DNA. That's why people only live to around 120 years of age maximum. Something written down a long time ago doesn't change that fact.
@TheGianluman2 жыл бұрын
Sure. Unless you manipulate DNA in order to reach that age.

If people can live that long, why haven't medical scientists found that limiting factor? Then, life expectancy would jump to over 800 years.
@markjones55802 жыл бұрын
If you trust the bible then the answer to your question is yes. Read Genesis 5. And in genesis 6 we read the reason why life spans fell proportionately. The sons of God "saw" and "took" from the daughters of men. "The Lord God said, " My spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years. Genesis 6:3( fallen creatures being sinful the descendants of Adam and Eve, kicked out of Eden and therefore now under the law of death). Apparently, this inter breeding was not to the creators liking. The progeny resulting from this led to the statement of Genesis 6:5 "The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. You are correct that DNA is determining our life span now as the strands have grown shorter to the point of 120 years being the divine ( DNA) set limit. The Bible is divine truth, God's revelation to man. He has written what he has written. He is who He is and will be who He will be. He is the great I AM. Let God be true though every one were a liar. Romans 3:4 b&c

I wonder if any of these people will ever realise the fact that the reason the ppl in the Bible has such long life spans is not bc they actually lived to be that age, but rather, in the culture of that era, it was common practice for people at the time to give important figures really long life spans just so they would remember them.

No it really isn't. Earth used to have around 50% more oxygen content and higher atmospheric pressure allowing oxygen to diffuse into tissue easily. Beyond the lack of harmful cosmic rays Hugh brought up there was also a reduction in UV from our sun too. Also lets not forget a very simple gene mutation we may find out could have flipped a gene causing the reduction in longevity. We know humans potentially could be able to make our own vitamin C, the gene is just turned off.
