As soon as I saw the vehicle being wrapped for protection I knew this was going to a lesson in a quality vanbuild. 👏👌 well done

The only insulation I see going in the roof is some thin foil and some 4 way stretch? No Dodo mat or dodo wool? Lovely build though I just wish I had my high top upide down in my workshop to work on.🙁

Fantastic craftsmanship. I am trying to convert my mid roof without compromising room for 2 MTBs and adding a double rear seat. I'm struggling with the layout solution, nevermind the work. Great video, thank you.

That 'fixed' high roof....is Amazing! Makes the Van 'Stand -Up' & 'Livable'!! Great WORK! Wish my Metris had a High Roof! My Back is sore 'hunched over'! lol!

Thanks! It definitely makes for a great living/ social space. One of our staff has a low roof van and he only sleeps inside, he has a great drive away awning that he lives in when he's camping. You maybe have one but if not they are worth checking out :).

@@JerbaCampers I agree, your high top is amazing, as is all the rest of your great work! Can I ask, would you take on a Citroen Spacetourer (van) conversion to a high top? Or is it purely VWs you would convert? I have a driveaway awning but in colder months would prefer a high top. Great job on the conversion! Thanks.

Impressive work and because it has the fixed high top should pass the DVLA criteria to be certified as motor caravan. Think this is the future of conversion under the new scheme.

I’ve got a 4 motion factory bread tin roof which I love to bits My first T5 underwent a austops pop-top conversation which I never really got on with.! Admittedly the high roofs don’t look as cool but no where near as common as the standard vans but for us it’s the real deal and it’s a long term keeper Plus they fall into the new DVLA motor home requirements
@Chriswoodworker4 жыл бұрын
I agree. don't think they look cool on a SWB but on a LWB, its looks fine. I will be getting a high-top. Too old for all this pop-up malarky.
@dinkydaz67114 жыл бұрын
Chris Stevens The factory roof is only on the LWB room for a reasonably sized skylight and a decent solar panel Your love it...!

J.A.M '68 Had my factory bread tin for three years love it compared to my old pop top if anything the mushroom types are better than the vertical types with the excessive material especially without the soft acrylic type windows that brittle up and discolour.

Great time-lapse Jerba. What have you used to insulate the floor? Is it one of the ultralight ply/xps blue foam/ply panels? Also you lay a black strip across the width of the van floor prior to the floor being bonded to the van. What's the function of this element? Thanks!

From a technical point of view, what happens if I get one of your vans to repair and the fault lies in the wiring hidden by the carpeted sides? Does it have access panels, or do we need to unglue the carpet possibly stretching it?
@JamesOversteer Жыл бұрын
I’ve learnt a lot watching your video as I prepare to cut the roof off of mine. Can I ask, did you weld the strengthening frame to the body of the van? I was thinking of using some simple L plate steel but concerned about welding to the thin skin, or is it thicker once you’ve cut that close to the edge?
@JerbaCampers Жыл бұрын
No, these are custom made, bolted in to rivets we set in the van on the strengthening pillars of the van, we then pop rivet all around the top. Also applying sikaflex to bond
@JamesOversteer Жыл бұрын
@@JerbaCampers thanks for getting back to me. I appreciate it. I’m trying to find more info on strengthening frames that people use but everyone seems to make custom and keep the designs to themselves, can’t blame them. Think I’ll use box steel, thanks for the riveting idea - do you rivet the fibreglass to the frame in your case?

Amazing work! beautiful conversion ,thanks for the video 👌😊

The video was a bit too fast for me but indeed a great job! The only thing that botters me is the insulation of the roof top. If I saw correctly it consists only of a double sided aluminium bubble wrap and that IMHO should only be used as a vapour barrier and not as insulation, but perhaps I missed something.. ATB

I think roof building was not good idea. That cutting roof, I'm not sure after 50.000kms roof can get water into car, or incase of accident there could be not good results because of cutting cars roof. Effect on strehght. Chasis.
