Finally had the chance to shoot this load last weekend. The cost of 1.5 ounces of tss $3.75- 3 flattened canadas pass shot with a 28 gauge-priceless! Awsome load- no more switching loads when geese show up.

I tried your tss duplex loads and there are great. Found the same a you on the choke tubes. Was hitting more the more open i went. Was shooting 20g steel today, 3" #4 3/4 oz 1550 fps with a mod choke. Loaded a tss duplex 5/6/7 in third position. That was reality hitting out past 60 yards in closer the steel did great.

Great video, simple math on the weight of TSS it’ll little over twice as heavy as steal. More complex math TSS 18 stands for 18.2 grams per cc. Steal shot is 7.85 grams per cc. Lead is 12 grams per cc. They do make TSS 15 witch is simply 15 grams per cc. CC Cubic centimeters. So you have a heavier Projectile with less Surface area witch lends itself to deeper Penetration at longer ranges. It folds goose like they been hit by a Mack truck. I’ve mainly been killing turkeys with it but your Duplex loads sound Ingenious to me! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

@bullet225ho Жыл бұрын
It will not. AA-HS have a much lower volume than the Fiocchi. You can do a duplex with the AA-HS.....You will have to adjust TSS volume or steel volume down accordingly to fit in the hull. I'm going to put one together and see where it lands.

@bullet225ho Жыл бұрын
I'm working on some tss/steel duplex loads for the AA-HS That particular hull has quite a bit less volume than a Cheddite or Fiocchi hull. So there will be a compromise in amount of shot and velocity or both to stay under pressure.

I made a 20 gauge recipe before we left out of state to hunt mallards, goldeneye, common merganser, and big honkers in Wyoming. 2 3/4" hull, #7 steel & #9 TSS with a combined load of about 1 1/8oz. The idea behind the #7 is I want as many pellets for close range. Also, using smaller pellets, it penetrates the feathers much better than a larger shot, minimizes damage to the meat, and eliminates pushing feathers into the meat. The #7 steel is pushed out to the outside by the TSS, while helping open up the TSS, but at 30 yards, my pattern is over 36" wide with the steel, with TSS at about 24" wide being thag the steel is basically a ring around the TSS pattern. 40 yards the TSS is about 30-36" wide and the steel basically falls off the effective lethal range, and the TSS takes over to do all of the killing beyond 30 yards. This pattern is very wide up close and we shot birds out to 70-80 yards dead before they hit the water. We also laid down those big honkers out past 50 yards with zero issues. The #7 is effective out to about 30ish yards, before the TSS really opens up. Past 30 yards the TSS is wide enough pattern to hit birds consistently out to 50-60+ yards. Every bird we shot looked like they fell asleep. Zero shot damage. Zero birds lost. We've used this stuff on pheasants in South Dakota and made amazing shots on birds out to 70-80 yards. It was extremely difficult to get up close to flush birds due to the 2-3 feet of snow 2 weeks ago. They spotted us way out and we had to make long shots on the birds. Finished the season out using these TSS recipes. I never touched my 12 gauge the rest of the season. Truly amazing stuff.

@mchenryjeremy Жыл бұрын
@@bullet225ho that was the plan. I developed 28 gauge loads but haven't got to pattern test or send them off for pressure testing. So since my friend only uses 20 gauge, I dropped the 28 gauge recipe to get a 20 gauge recipe ready for the trip, pattern and pressure tested before we made a big batch of them. I have developed a 410 recipe already for my dad since he has bad shoulder and neck issues. It's like shooting a Red Ryder with his semi auto 1100 lol.

Make sure the steel is on top of the TSS. Also Improv Cyl or Cyl choke with TSS or TSS duplex. If you have ducks over decoys 30yds and in....yes 4 or 5 steel 5/8oz or 3/4oz will do the trick. Improv Cyl choke.

Where did you get your load data? I have BPI's "Small Bore Manual", and I also have a BPI LOTW tungsten steel duplex. Their small bore manual doesn't have any duplex loads.
@bullet225ho2 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, The data is been derived from using data points from several different places. BPI Advantages manual mainly and also data from Hal that he will provide after purchasing shot from him. I cross reference data points for powder charge weights and such. I load up a group and send them off for testing. It's time consuming and tedious. I usually end up with way more loads that are over pressure, but I eventually end up with good tested loads. The 3/4oz. steel load that I load went through 5 tests to get to the load I use.

Is there a wad for AA's that's tapered for steel in 2 3/4"? Seems like finding a recipe for duplex loads would be great if it works. I only have 1,000 AA's I'm shooting through and keeping.
@bullet225ho Жыл бұрын
I don't know of a wad for the older AA tapered hulls. TPS wad is about the only thing that works for the duplex loads. There are a few wads that work in that hull.....but all designed around 3/4oz lead loads. That's not to say you couldn't get a TSS load to work...but it's not steel. You'd have to get creative and use mylar wraps and such. From what I gather you have a good hull on your hand for target/bird hunting purposes.

@alanrobinson35492 жыл бұрын
Hi im a bit confused, why are you mixing the two shot together ? what is the advantage. Regards Alan Robinson
@bullet225ho2 жыл бұрын
Hey Alan, Couple of reasons. I feel 1/2oz of TSS is plenty to keep pellet count up enough to be a viable load for waterfowl (Small ducks to Geese) Also only using 1/2oz of TSS keeps the cost down as TSS is expensive. The steel on top does two things. It takes up the space that is left with just 1/2 of TSS (fills the hull vs using spacers) and also it is much less dense than the TSS. When loaded in that configuration of Steel on top the patter opens up much better at closer distances. The TSS pushes through the steel causing it to open up much nicer than shooting TSS alone (or on top of the steel) gives a super tight pattern down range.
