3:45 You can tell how frustrated Raziel is at himself since his desire to know the truth about his fate, to the very point of selfishness, allowed the Hylden Lord to achieve his goals and how the Hylden Lord taunts him shows he should have perhaps listened to Kain about his warning that Janos must STAY dead to prevent what happens in the fourth timeline during Blood Omen 2.

Melcore another actually poetic irony the series presented.. sad truth is he, mortanius the necromancer , and debatably Ariel are the only characters in the entire series who had truly benevolent motives.. but they have all been misguided pawns, especially Janos... he may have been the biggest pawn of all, also double ironic as he was the only kind hearted character in the series. That's both sad and kinda funny :3

Yup, the young kain will proceed forward in the 4th Timeline, and proceed with the events of Blood Omen 2. this was a perfect Tie-in because Janos is corrupted by the Hylden at the right moment for everything to make sense.

Yes; when Kain prevented Raziel from entering the Reaver, he changed history (or, the future, from their current time), and with it, his memories changed also... when he realized what they'd done, he tried to warn Raziel, but to no avail.

Indeed he did. Janos was destined to become a powerful tool for the Hylden. After the Hylden Lord defeated Raziel, he used Janos to open a gate to the Demon Dimension on a faraway island, and pull more Hylden back into the world. He then used Janos to fuel an ancient Hylden doomsday weapon called The Device. But that's a subject from Blood Omen 2.

Ok while raziel was in avernus cathedral younger kain was seeing mortanius give come to me my undead son line then he had to defeat unspoken and then ariel presented the choice while that happend raziel had to return to the mansion raise janos and getting the spirit reaver happend right after kain chose rulling the vampires

The Hylden Lord was originally possessing Mortanius - Raziel met him when he met Mortanius in the Cathedral. The Heart of Darkness was used by Mortanius to raise Kain originally.

Specifically, it's the hylden who'll become the Sarafan Lord in Blood Omen 2. He fought Kain at the end of Blood Omen 1, but was defeated, and came back later to reform the sarafan.

My favourite scene, thanks to Janos/Hylden Lord's speech about how everything has gone according to plan. Both this game and Soul Reaver 2 has the most impressive facial animation I've ever seen, and it still looks great nowadays :)

Since I didn't play Blood Omen 2 til after Defiance, I was freaking out that I had to fight Janos at this part and the fact he was controlled and then disappeared. *wipes tear* but then I played Blood Omen 2 and things got more clear and better. I love this series!

Let me get this straight. Back in the ending of Soul Reaver 2, Kain tried to tell Raziel that "Janos must stay dead" Is this the reason why he had to stay dead? To prevent the Hylden from controlling him? Sorry, I haven't fully grasped the entire plot of this series. Only played this and Soul Reaver 2.

Welp, if you're still interested 10 years later: Janos Audron in Defiance becomes the vessel for the Hylden Lord featured in Blood Omen 2. His supremacy in that game is seen as a result from crossing over in this one. Because Kain has seen this happen, and because they are in a new 4th timeline, he knows how dangerous the Hylden Lord is and what he will be planning. Cheers mate!

That's the one of the hylden, the race the ancient vampires fought, banished from Nosgoth, erected the pillars to hold at bay, and who enacted the curse that effected the vampires' fall from grace.

@TheLordOfDarknes1000 He looks younger because he is younger - the Kain in Blood Omen 2 is the younger version of Kain from Blood Omen 1 - after he refuses the sacrifice at the pillars, he begins raising his vampire army, and Blood Omen 2 occurs - due to all the time travel, this (the freeing of the Sarafan Lord (aka Hylden Lord) occurs at the same time Kain is making his choice at the Pillars.

Nope. Kain from BO1 is younger. BO2 Kain, and Second Sarafan Order creation took place after events from BO1 in new timeline, following "edge of the coin" paradox.

I think that Kain had already chosen to preserve himself during the events in this vid and even the previous vid. I base this off the assumption that the pillars only collapsed after a delay, providing the necessary time between Kain's choice and the shattering of the pillars for Ariel to be transported to Raziel.

@wolfsora The Hylden weren't vampires - they were a separate race entirely. They have physical bodies, but since they were banished to the Demon Dimension, they're only able to influence the world subtly.

Why not? Dark Gift as we used to call it, was separation from the Wheel of Fate. Who others than the Hylden, refused to submit to the Wheel first of all? Maybe Dark Gift was soul modification, some kind of spiritual virus invented for recirculation of life force within Hylden society? When Hylden were banished, lack of host made the Curse attack other within it's grasp.. the Ancients. It would make sense for another reason. How Hylden could retaliate with the Curse after their banishment? I think not at all. If my "ailment theory" is true, Dark Gift infection was instant after banishment. Also would make sense that young Kain gain TK Gift from Seer, which isn't a vampire.. or is she?

Janos,as an ancient vampire, is immortal. Unlike regular mortal hosts, (like Mortanius, who was hosting the Hylden Lord just before this scene) who is a mortal and thus the possession would twist him physically (remember the Dark Entity at the end of Blood Omen)

And yes, no romance. They could bring the team back to work on it. And because elder god was buried, they could say that he was so grievously wounded that his voice was damaged. That way they could bringin another voice actor without fault.

This scene is significant because it's the frirst time Janos aknowledges the existence of a "Scion of Balance" as seperate from Raziel. He thought Raziel was preordeined to wield the reaver, but knows he's not the actual Scion of Balance...........and yet isn't the Scion of Balance always depicted as the one with the reaver??? Hmm...
