New Zealand summers dont really get warm until late January, but we still have 4 season days (I literally got burnt and we had a hail storm with in 2 hours) so always bring a raincoat even if it looks fine and sunblock when overcast. Second, road trips in NZ are incredible, I go on one every year and am still awestruck (trying to not sound arrogant) so you can go from sand dunes at the top of the north island. To surfing beaches. To hot water beaches. To a 55 mile long beach. To a city surrounded by 48 volcanos (including an active one off sure), to hobbiton (yes it's real). To a lake created by a volcano that's so wide you cant see the other side. Then there's mountains and more beaches. Then you can do it all again following the Remarkables in the south island...while seeing the Lord of the ring set. So I'll shut up now...just come enjoy the food, try NZ ice cream (it'll be a new experience)...
