Nice repair and a useful tip from Paul on identifying the outer foil on non-polarised caps.Thanks and 73.

Talk about using your senses as simple test gear, we had a cable TV tech here last week to troubleshoot a foreign voltage noted on our coax feed. He started at the closest pedestal and used his "DMF" or as I called it his "Digital Multi Finger" to see if there was a 90V level on the coax that wasn't supposed to be there; I told him I knew CPR just in case. Luckily he didn't start doing the "funky chicken" when he held the coax connector's ground ferrule between his fingers and touched the center conductor with his index finger. Great easy fix Buddy, thanks for sharing! 73 - Dino KL0S

+Dino Papas Ha ah, that surely will light up your life. I got hit with 1100 hundred volts before. I learned how to do the funky chicken then. Also learned a lot of respect for high voltage. Thanks for sharing that story Dino. It reminds you to put safety first. And as always thanks for your comment.

Thanks for the kind words Buddy..... Always appreciated! Great job on the scope, I have 2 of those, and like them very much. I agree, the best piece of test gear we own is right between our ears!

+Mr Carlson's Lab Paul, It is a real honor to have you stop by my little channel. And no problem I reference you and Peter many times on different web sites. You guys are the best. And yes, I love test equipment but when you the one between your ears it gives you a good feeling. Thanks for commenting my friend.

+The Radio Shop excellent video. I usually change all the Japanese oil caps out as they are not the quality of the Sprague Vitamin Q or the Russian K40y paper in oil caps.

Buddy, I have the same YO-100 that I turned on after 2 years of sitting. Made 3 snaps. Fuse, and both resistors on that same terminal strip, so evidently the same problem. I'll do a complete recap as I need it for my old Drake equipment. Thanks for pin pointing where on the schematic to find these resistors as occasionally I it bit difficult for a non electronics tech to pin point issues other than using your senses as you describe, along with voltage checks etc. Thanks for saving me time. Cheers.

Nice repair. Not only look to the result, smoked resistor, but also looked for the course, shorted capacitor. This is not always easy! Good job look forward to some more.

+Beretta96Dan Thanks very much for the comment. Out of the 28 videos I have made you are the second that has left feedback about the camera work. That is most appreciated. I consider myself as a noob when it comes to video work and editing. Still work in progress. One day I hope to get better cameras and audio equipment to make nicer videos. (Hint to all the manufacture companies ;) ).Thanks again for the nice words.

Yes! I agree with you and Paul; our senses are the best guide in tracking a problem that often speed up repairs, test equipment on the other hand is an extension into more precise troubleshooting. There is an old saying, the test equipment is as good as the operator. A good understanding on how electronic parts work will make you much more efficient when it comes to resolving issues.

But it is nice to have the test gear I myself love collecting it LOL Thats great advice about checking out those other channels I follow all of them and they are great channels very informative and full of great videos. as well as your own this one is a great channel.

I have been watching and enjoying your videos and like your troubleshooting techniques. I have been working on radios for 40 plus years and still get stumped a bit and of course I like the rapid satisfaction of having the parts quick and not waiting or having to search for a long time. I need more patience :) I actually wanted to ask you about the turntable you have built that swivels. That would sure make the IFRs and Yaesus a lot easier and I am also jealous and interested in the microscope you use. Any info you can share would be appreciated Sir and thx. Ron Keith 73s AK6Z
@TheRadioShop9 жыл бұрын
+Ron Keith Well thank you Ron for the kind words and for following my video series. Much appreciated. Lets see, turntable. I was at a flea market one day and laying on a tarp a vender had I saw this round doughnut looking ring. It measured 12 inches in diameter and has a 6 in hole in the center. The whole unit is less than a half inch thick. I knew then what I could do with it so asked the guy how much. He said one buck. Took it home found a laminated board from a tore down cabinet and bolted in on. Been using it since 2000. I think the bearing ring came from a tv set. Also some cheap office chairs have something similar.The microscope I use is a usb style. It is called the Dino-lite premier. About 250 bucks now. I wish I had purchase a trinocular microscope but were expensive at the time. Hope this helps Ron.

I still use my Vintage test gear wherever possible, my favourite signal generator is an old Avo valve job from the fifties & is still spot on frequency. Wherever possible I still use my old Avo 8 as well. Think it's an age thing Lol, maybe I should have been born in the 40's.

On my YO-100 , R19 (100K 1W) was bad. Replacing this restored the shortened sweep.
@thomasjacobs36042 жыл бұрын
Viewers should realize it was a 15K and 47K ohm resistor that was burnt on the terminal strip. . Referring to the schematic, one can see that a 47K and 15K are on the terminal strip and the additional 47K that Buddy referenced was on the PC card. Hence he mistakenly replaced the 15K with a 47K. Glad it still worked.
