So glad you are getting the tank shed built...it has been worrying me that it would not be in time. There is a product called carbon fibre heating wire that uses only about 3-4 watts per meter. It can be powered by DC (12v) and could really help with against freezing issues both in & around the house.

Nice work and essential for you being able to move the family in. Not sure I understand prioritizing the house siding in front of enclosing the water tank with insulation. One is for cosmetic appearance (yes/no?) while the other is life support as you have said often. I agree with others who suggest using heat tape on the tank and some of your solar power to stop the water from freezing. A thermostat would help conserve your solar power. Painting the tin black to absorb daytime heat from the sun might help some as well. The ultimate answer is dirt making an earth berm but that’s for next summer ...unless the weather gives you a break next week..if it does, perhaps that should be your first priority. Good luck with your progress and your choices. Fix that lock today!

Great stuff. I have been struggling with the ideas in regards to what were going to do with our tanks. I have come to the conclusion a large garage that can house two tanks, food storage and the Jeep is the best way. This way I can use a second wood stove to simply heat everything else but the house. Unfortunately we will need to use a pump for the water but it will be so close to the house some simple heat wrap for the hose will prevent freezing. Having a huge garage next to our tiny house might look a little strange but functionally, it seem like the biggest bang for our buck. Good luck with the rest of your projects before the cold long winter.

My solution would be to dig out an area where I can place the water tank under ground- then build a structure around the tank that is strong enough to support the dirt that is put around the structure and the water tank - that way the tank would be under ground and not supporting any dirt around the tank
@danhubert40746 жыл бұрын
Ninja Heath ... you are doing fine. From the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick. Since you don't really need the water yet, drain the tank. As you know, frozen pipes and semi frozen tanks are no fun. Without a doubt, you will require heat tracing at some point, especially on the outlet pipe and all around the tank. Picture the tank at 4 am some super cold morning with a strong North wind blowing. You will have to get 120 Volt power up there to power up some heat tapes. Heat Tapes don't draw a lot of current, but the tank is quite far from your panel. I think 12-2 wiring would be too light, but might work for the winter, and get you by. Love the videos, and like your wife's name ... Cedar. We all want to know how she is planning her house.

For someone who works alone most of the time you accomplish a lot of work. Prayer has power over the enemy on those days when the world is fighting against you. That reminder is as much for you as it is for me. There something that I do when we are moving into another home, I walk the boundaries of the property and pray over it. That the enemy would not have any power over that land or my family, that all curses on that land would be removed, that my home would be a place of peace, rest and have a loving atmosphere. Then I seal it in the name of the King of King and the Lord of Lords I call him Yeshua /Jesus . This is just something that I was taught to do, so I'm just passing it on.

Once you heat trace the tank, pull the insulation off the walls, and wrap the tank directly with insulation. There is no point i n heating the space between the tank and the walls. Leave the corrugated steel as is ... it will simply serve as a wind break, and thus reduce convection.

Glad to see you're getting the shed put up. So, no solar panel driven heat source for the shed? Will you go up and clear the snow from the shed roof to help it stay the course? Hopefully, you will film the rest of the water shed for us, but if not, I understand. The work goes a bit quicker if you're not tending to camera equipment. Be safe out there, Heath. Getting home to those you love is more important than a shed or tank. God bless and keep you safe.
