Working in winter, gloves are very important. And always carry an extra dry pair! Single layer leather gloves rubbed in Sno-Seal that you heat and rub into the leather is great for working as they don't soak water. Having steep hills, deep snow and the need to plow and rescue others, an old forestry tractor with 28" front tires, and with good quality studded chains all around will make you unstoppable. Set up with a forestry winch, blade and a single stage pull behind blower is what is needed for winter. Pull behind blowers where the tractor drives through the snow first works great all over Scandinavia.

You said the shed does not look pretty, maybe, but I think it looks like it should be there, fits into the landscape. If you had clad it with shinny new tin, it would look odd and out of place. Working in cold temps like that is hard work. Cheers from Tokyo!

I live in southern idaho and keep miles of pipe line for 1200 beef cattle running all winter. In my opinion "and maybe your doing this" the best thing you can do is have constant water movement. Like by opening a hydrant at bottom with a garden house on it to keep flow going . As long as your water source would hold up. Even just a crack. I have to take a couple floats off my water troughs to keep it moving. Good luck. You live in paradise!

When I was a kid living in Southeastern Idaho, there were plenty of times we were snowmobiling before Thanksgiving. I remember my cousin and I going snowmobiling on Halloween Day once. The last decade or so there has been a drought, but the area can definitely see snow earlier than other parts of the state. Looks good. Keep it up.

Great job in the less than ideal conditions. I thought the weather up there was gonna get nasty, but that is over the top for the snow. Reminds me of the late 1970's. It might help if you could make a jacket for the tank itself. Like the waterheater jackets they sell but with the roxul and and some heavy plastic and some banding or even a few cheap ratchet straps. The building will keep the wind and snow off the tank. But if the tank was wrapped then the warmth from the ground water couldn't escape to have to heat the rest of the air in the building. I know you're to tired to even consider this now. Just thought I would throw it out. Ya'll are in my prayers. Bad enough to have to do this job, but to be good enough to film it for us, thanks for sharing your life with us all.

Since you have an ATV, pickup a plow attachment for the ATV, thats how i clear our driveway and such here in Colorado.. we have a 18 inch plow attachment we picked up at Northern Tools for $175 and i can clear our area about the same space you have in about 15-20 minutes.. its very nimble and easier to get around with the plow with the atv vs a truck. For added traction i put a milk crate attached to the back cargo area and put 2 x 50lb bags of sand i keep around in it for this time of the year.

Talking about snow coming in early. We are originally from Oklahoma, moved to Minnesota 9 yrs ago. One of our sons got married the middle of October and while the Oklahoma family members were here for the wedding we got snow. I think some of them were alittle nervous about getting stuck here for the winter. It melted by the time they left but it was fun to have them experience it while they were here. Maybe you could put in a kind of zip line or pulley system to go up the hill in places for work or play with the kids.
