In our fourth week of our Pacific Crossing, we run into a bunch of parasail challenges - chafing, wing lines disconnected, twisted sail and bridle. Check out our video to see how we handle all of these frustrating situations. The good news is we learned a lot.
We would MUCH appreciate your supporting our efforts by SUBSCRIBING, and giving a THUMBS UP, and SHARING our videos with your friends!

NEW TO OUR CHANNEL?
We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our NEW life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we have very little sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.
So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!
As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!
If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, and SHARE our videos with your friends!

I love the fact that “sixteen” is “one six” in “boat speech” ! Who woke up one day and thought …right , I’m going to invent new names for the same numbers …in the same language …😂

lol. How do you have time to watch our vid today?? You are amazing. Ha. Yes, VHF language is just that, another language. I think they do it for clarity. Like 15 and 50 sound alike but 1-5 and 5-0 are very distinguishable. ❤️

TY both for this channel. I’ve learned so very much. My daughter, hubby & grand are getting ready to sail. Your channel has eased my mind because I know how long they’ve been planning for such adventures. I’m so excited for them. Thanks again for all you do for the sailing community.

It’s so wonderful to read your message. Thank you for your kind words. We are thrilled your daughter and family will be setting sail soon. I know it feels so “out of control”, but if they are careful and smart about the weather, they will have an amazing experience and hopefully you can get out there and enjoy it with them. Please let them know we are happy to help in any way we can if they have questions!! Where are they leaving from? Sailingblownaway@gmail.com

They are in Tortola now having their vessel surveyed. My daughter, Kathleen Burcher, is a patron of your channel & was the person who turned me on to your videos as I had way too many questions.😅 I’ve been told they plan to spend the next six months to year in the Chesapeake Bay to learn about the vessel & then reevaluate. Hope to have an opportunity to jump on board with them. Love what you’re doing & I’m sure it takes a whole lot of time & thought putting videos together! Thanks again & again Ann

Really appreciate the great vids you make. The parasail looks like a complicated and potentially fraught thing but the payoff is glorious. Thanks for sharing the experiences. I have so much respect for you guys, your attitudes, adventurous spirit, generous nature, senses of humour, competence in a complicated environment…. the list goes on. Really decent folk with lovely vids. I just wish the wider KZbin world got to see it too. Thanks for sharing. Safe journey.

Aw. Thank you so much. Your encouragement means so much to us. The parasail has much more upside than down but it is a complicated piece of equipment. We needed some good protocols using it and now we have them so hopefully we won’t face the same issues again!!

@@SailingBlownAway yeah it’s obvious that there are many tricks to getting it right and now you are tooled up for managing it well. I hope the Pacific continues to treat you well and that you have the time of your lives in French Polynesian waters. Fair winds.

@@SailingBlownAway if the sea gods will it then that would be awesome. We are subscribed to a number of other channels that have been in French Polynesia recently so I know for sure how lovely the places are that you are going to. I really look forward to seeing your smiles when you are revelling in that beauty. Cant think of a more deserving couple to experience that joy. Sorry I’ve kept you typing…. I do appreciate your replies.

Q&A question for next ep. If not already answered. Autopilot. Do you have a full spare, only spare parts or just a plan to have Tarzan Brown manage the emergency tiller?
@SailingBlownAway
@SailingBlownAway Ай бұрын
LOL. We will answer that in next Q&A, but for you I will answer it now too! We have chain, a new ACU, all electrics. The question is do we know how to fix it! HA! We would have to hand steer to get through the passage (more than likely depending on how painful it is!HA) and then fix when we are settled....with some help! :)

@@SailingBlownAway as I will be statesides for hurricane season I need to solve this problem as well. I assume you have L&S plus what ever MFD manufacturer. I have seen little things on the L&S equipment break like pins, brushes, seals, So I am starting a list of critical spares for L&S kit. Also thinking about a fully independent system like the Raymarine wheel autopilot that I could install fairly quickly which there lies the problem...nothing is every quick on a moving sailboat. I have friends who have installed an entirely new system on the port side.
@SailingBlownAway
@SailingBlownAway Ай бұрын
@cncarstens yes, we have new chain, pins, dyneema replacement for steering cables, new ACU unit. We looked into building a secondary but don’t really have room for it. The ones in a box weren’t strong enough to steer our size/weight. Also, We are not hydraulic steering. It’s def worth making sure you have all that you need!

What a great episode I love the q and A. That parasailer seems to be one complicated sail. I don't know why but I think it's funny when you call it the Oxley It reminds me of your friend Stanley I hope he is doing fine. I did not know you could get a Visa for a year I think that is a good idea because there's a lot to see they're in French Polynesia. Thank you for sharing those beautiful smiles and we'll see you next week

Thanks for your faithful viewing and comments!! We really appreciate it! The Oxley is more complicated the more you fly it as things happen! Ha. Thanks for making us laugh.
