The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile was built between 1806 and 1836 on the Place Charles-de-Gaulle. It is part of the "historical axis", a series of monuments and large streets leading out of Paris. The Arc de Triomphe was commissioned by Emperor Napoleon I after the Battle of Austerlitz to glorify his victories in 1806. The Roman Catholic Church of Notre-Dame de Paris is the cathedral of the Archbishopric of Paris. It was consecrated to "Our Lady, the Mother of God Mary" and built from 1163 to 1345. It is one of the earliest Gothic church buildings in France. Avenue des Champs-Élysées is 70 metres wide and 1910 metres long, starting at Place de la Concorde and ending at Place Charles-de-Gaulle. The Champs-Élysées form the central part of the Axe historique visual axis between the Obelisque (Place de la Concorde) and the Arc de Triomphe (Place Charles-de-Gaulle). The Avenue des Champs-Élysées has had its present name since 1789. The Eiffel Tower / La Tour Eiffel is 324 metres high. Built between 1887 and 1889, it was a monumental entrance portal and lookout tower near the banks of the Seine for the World Exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. The tower, named after the builder Gustave Eiffel, is the highest building in Paris and one of the most visited landmarks in the world.
