Aluminium Casting of a Meat Ant Nest (Iridomyrmex purpureus) by Australian Ant Art™
australianantart
We have been at it again. About a year after our first attempt with a frame we have gone bigger and better. This casting was quite the challenge. It was a mound with 70 entrances. We bought in an excavator and filled up a ditch witch 8 times. That is 24000 L of sludge.
Meat ants are quite amazing. They can form super colonies covering a number of kilometres and housing thousands of ants. They can strip a carcass clean of all meat, preforming vital environmental work. Meat ants will also create foraging trails, easily visible due to the absence of vegetation, and ants will forage on these to trees they favour most. The trees are an important source of food and water, especially when days are hot and dry.
Meat Ants are Australia’s most successful ant.
Cast Dimensions:
Weight: Over 290 kg (640 lbs)
Height: 1000 mm (39")
Length: 3700 mm (145")
Width: 1650 mm (65")

It seems a very clean and quick way to deal with ants, this method. Aluminium isn't too hard to get. That casting mould and heating source may be harder, but not difficult. A bit of planning and it should be a sure way to get rid of an any colony once and for all.

I guess the sale of the resulting pieces were worth the time, trouble and expense of it all? Not knocking what was done, just trying to figure out why all the manpower and expense?

This video is kind of disturbing. Maybe okay for you guys, who like their meat extra barbequed but there are still humans who pick insects carefully with a piece of paper and put them outside.

You know I'll pick insects carefully too but they freak me out (by crawling or whatever closer to me) too much before i get the chance to do that, so i just let those not harmful like lizards run off themselves + honestly do you do these to ants?? like disjosn? btw how about cockroach the real pests?
@pinkribbon1007
@pinkribbon1007 6 жыл бұрын
KatorNia i would say you do realise they are just ants and humans are dying too due to unnatural causes but what's not impt to me can mean a lot to others. yup so go on protest to them hold up a damn board in front of them for sth that is gone already. :) look, ants unlike humans don't have pain receptors like we do, theirs is just pain = danger = get away they dont feel ouch like humans they also dont have brains capable of complex emotion like fear of concept of death, family love. they are very strong in Australia and can reproduce and make it up faster than you the hot thingy will kill them faster than you think the noise probably scared some of the ants away honestly is saddening to see them do it but is only 1 and using just 1 nest we got to study the fascinating nest... im not saying is not cruel cause it was but I'm not saying is the end of the world level kind of dramatic as well what done was done and on a side not ant exterminator or whatever they're called do it more than they did tbh so it isn't about lives but reasoning to why they did that and hi

thequickredfoxjumped overthelazybrowndog I agree that society is raising a pack of whimps with no ability to accept uncomfortable feelings however politicizing it makes little sense and contributes even less to fixing the situation. Not all liberals are pussies, not all conservatives are strong. It's a character problem not a political one. And no I'm not a liberal.

@talhatariqyuluqatdis 5 жыл бұрын
@@freddieflores8881 We should feel sympathy for every living creature, more so the ones that can feel pain, and above all, and of course, ourselves, humans. But this does also include ants. And although very few people would say anything if you killed one ant or 10, if you kill a whole colony, thats just sad. Thats like taking a beehive thats done nothing wrong to you, and is actually producing for you a benefit, honey, and then whacking it to smithereens. Why would you do it? This isnt even emotion, its logic first then emotion. You have much more reason not to do it than you have to do it, secondly its just sad. Not sad enough to make pretty much anyone cry but sad still. Sorry about how my last comment sounded, kind of passive aggressive, didnt mean it that way I think

Not sure if this is what I saw, but I do recall on a trip to Australia seeing a 2 inch wide, 1 inch deep "Ant Highway" running straight-line for about 8 meters between two trees. Mother Nature wrote the original "Time is on my side", and she will take it back eventually. Most interesting place.
