I bought one of these Stihl sharpeners about 20 years ago. I bolted it to the wall, it is my favorite way to sharpen chain.

Buy the CBN wheels. Buy once cry once. They won`t wear down nearly as quick, and the CBN wheels won`t burn your cutters like the stone wheels do. I can hear the stone wheel going away as you were sharpening your chain the further you went with it. That means the stone was getting smaller in diameter. Where did you get the Stihl chain sharpener, and what did it cost ???

At some point I'll get a cbn wheel but these Stihl wheels work wayyyyy better than than the standard pink wheels, they don't wear down as fast or get the cutter nearly as hot. I doubt I'll ever wear out this wheel but maybe this summer I'll get a cbn wheel. I got this from my local Stihl dealer and paid about $850 for the grinder and diamond wheel for carbide.
