try using a longer forstay with that much wind, I am the owner of an FD myself, and know the advantages of a good mast-trim. put your mast back and increase the tension on the sidestays (sideways flow). also tighten up your cunningham hole to bend the mast backwards. pull your sword up a little bit if you still cant handle the boat.

@tjeerd29er the reason you don't think it's 35 kn is because the lack of fetch on that body of water doesn't allow for the waves to build up very much.

If the instrument says 35knots I don't have reason to say it was 25.... The guys were handling quite well, and coz of that it looks less wind!

@tjeerd29er The boat handling isn't the important part here, in a wind like this the important part is keeping the boat upright and moving, even if it's slow.

Whatever the wind speed actually is, it's way easier on a lake like Garda without much waves to talk about.

Some the bullets may of been 35 but champ, i have sailed in 35 and it didnt compare with this, im guessing this is somewhere around the 25 mark. Anyways, your sailors might have not so good boat handleing yet but when they get to sail in this breeze more they will pick up the right technique

Yeah this really does not look like 35 knots. High 20s maybe getting into the 30s in the shots where it is really capping. It is definitely possible to sail a 29er in over 35 knots, but it gets pretty messy. I remember 1 day where they cancelled racing during the 2005 worlds in the bay. Race committee abandoned after solid 35+ and a 30 second gust of 47 knots. Needless to say everyone tried to go for a hoist, a few even made it. None stayed up the whole way downwind.

Nah no 29er will do that. I sail at national level and compete in the worlds and I've only got 22.3 on one max. You'll never hit 30. A 49er can only just do that...
