This is a quick video to show you how to use one of the greatest tools ever made! A flexible hose clamp pliers can save you quite a bit of time and effort when removing hose clamps from your system. A tool like this can also make it much safer rather than using a pair of channel locks which can bite your fingers if you aren't careful. We have gotten a ton of comments asking us about this tool so here is a video all about it!

I mostly work on motorcycles but still have issues with those types of spring loaded hose clamps. I see a lot of them on smaller fuel and vacuum lines in tight spaces. However, this unit looks too big to fit into those tight spaces to reach the smaller clamps I encounter. Seeing your operation though, just gave me the idea of using some small needle-nose vice grips to hold the clamp open while I use two fingers or two picks to pull the clamp back. Thanks for the demonstration! On a different note... I don't understand why vendors sell something like this tool without providing a demo on how it is supposed to work. I think they would sell a lot more once people realize how useful the product is. I googled hose pliers (used to pry small hoses off their mounts), and remote action hose clamp tools were displayed. I had never seen them before, figured they must be useful to someone, but couldn't even see enough detail in the images to know how they work so had no interest in it. But then I decided to find a demonstration out of curiosity. Thanks again for the demonstration.

You never realize how having a special tool would really be needed... I had a small swollen coolant hose beneath a couple metal fuel lines on a 1992 Toyota 3vze engine that needed removing and I don't think these would have fit. Eventually got it loose with a pair of needle nose, but it took a little fiddling. But for most jobs these would work great! Thanks!

The one used in the video looks longer and thicker. Already ordered the keep your knuckles from getting bruised tool. 😎 Found this one on AMZN.com Drake Off Road 4521 Hose Removal Tool $10.88. While I would love to have a SnapOn tool, they are a little expensive. Thanks again. Probably will have some questions when I actually do my coolant drain and refill.

TIP for removing stuck on coolant hoses: 1) while still filled with coolant, relocate the coolant clamps to the very end of the hose, even to the point of the clamp extending past the end 2) turn on the engine and warm up the coolant will expand and "balloon" the hose ends radially outward from the pipe nipples, while the clamps marginally still hold the hose in place and prevent leakage. if there is no ballooning, top up coolant to the point of over filling and try again 3) drain the coolant 4) remove the hose clamps

Hi--Great video overall. My one quibble with you is that you state at the outset, and I quote, "These are available from Amazon". Not, "Pliers LIKE these are available from Amazon. THESE are available from Snap-on's website for $138+, so unless you're a professional auto tech who uses these daily, go to Amazon and select a cheaper pair". I immediately went to Amazon's website to look these up and purchase them. I spent 30 minutes looking for these and, of course, never found them. I did find the Mayhew version of this tool on Amazon, but it was $145.00 and included a pair of specialty hose pliers as well. Both that one and Snap-on's version are made in France (I assume Snap-on's is simply a re-branded Mayhew). It wasn't until I read Ken Johnson's comment (who lives in the UK) and your reply did I know that it was a Snap-on product. The radiator hose pick you used obviously is, but this one was not.

They are amazing! One of the best tools I own! The ones used in the video are snap-on brand. Which means they are pretty pricey but come with a lifetime warranty. That really makes it worth it to some one like me. I believe these are it but I can't really tell because they didn't bother to put a photo lol store.snapon.com/Non-Catalog-Items-RATCHETING-HOSE-CLAMP-PLIERS-P9769484.aspx So I linked more affordable ones in the description, just because the average person does not need snap-on. Those screw driver tightened hose clamps will work the same and be much easier to work with. I replaced a few of the snap hose clamps with screw versions. Just a lot easier to deal with when it comes time for repairs. And convenience is king for me! Thank you for watching! Show less

With regard to replacing constant tension spring clips with worm drive clamps (screwdriver tightened), keep in mind that the performance of typical auto parts store worm clamps is substandard compared to spring clamps because they fray the hose with the adjustment slots, they can strip, they can cut into the hose, they may not be able to apply adequate tension to prevent leaks, and they don't compensate the shrinkage of the rubber. If you absolutely have to do this, I would use the racing style T-bolt clamps. Harder to find, but they don't give you the problems of the cheap worm clamps with the exposed slots. Just my two cents from the school of hard knocks.

Your videos very well-made. However I ordered the tool you linked me to and I think it's an inferior tool to what you use. The one they sent me, the handgrip part is so small it's EXTREMELY difficult to build enough force for the tool to budge the clamps. It is better than the one I bought at my local auto parts store - it would not even open up wide enough to surround the little bat ears and squeeze them. I'm in my second or third week of trying to do this, so far I've spent $110 on wrenches, and the old defective leaking hose is still firmly on there. Well at least your video shows me how to do the repair, if I can ever get a proper tool. I'll never buy a car that has these hose clamps on it, ever again. I'll just keep putting new engines and new transmissions in my old cars and run them till they drop

@@2carpros I'd like a pair but cannot find how to locate a dealer anywhere on their website. The ones you link to are a bad design as the gear the locking mechanism is supposed to latch into doesn't last beyond a couple of uses which defeats the purpose of these. I noticed most are made the same way with the gear teeth on a circle at the top and a small pointer which is supposed to latch between the teeth but it strips out after a couple of times. They are one use only. Better design would be worth it to me.
