2D 3D VFX and Compositing reel

Here is my new demo reel! It was a quick edit from the projects I worked on from the last year and a half in the industry, I didn't get a chance to go into each shot and put down programs used, but everything was done in Nuke, and I had a few shots done with Maya and Houdini as well. Feel free to ask me anything!

Amazing. I feel a little embarrassed watching the tears as I wondered how they did it so well in modern productions. I thought they pumped some kind of tear inducing air into their eyes. It never occured to me they used CG.

Thank you! If it was my choice I would have thrown pepper at the actor, but luckily I did tears in photoshop as a teen so that knowledge translated well into this shot.

Great! Did you project the tears (i assume they're a texture) on a 3d mesh of a head?

They were their own textures projected from a camera track, and the moving tear was a system of rotos I made to create a tear from scratch. No 3D meshes =]

What is the best software to compositing??

Nuke, hands down. Another free substitute, that is also decent is Fusion. You could also work with After Effects, but its a program more for motion graphics, plus its layer based.

I self-taught myself photoshop when I was 12, at 18 I went to Gnomon School of Visual Effects, and learned compositing in the Nuke Compositing classes.

I was using photoshop since I was 12 and by the time I took two nuke compositing classes at Gnomon I was able to translate my photoshop knowledge into compositing.
