now that Jube Richmond's grand children are adults we appreciate all the downloads of her music and movies. its wonderful to pass this down to her great, great, great Grand children. For I am the daughter of her youngest daughter, who is age 82 and resides in AZ.

Growing up in the early 80s my mother and stepfather would put on Channel 32 (Howard University Television Washington, DC) and footage like this would be shown. I can remember thinking, in my youth, "Wow this is the kind of poeple Icome from?!" I would feel so much pride in knowing that African Americans gave the world so much music. Not to mention that the laadies performing were so beautiful and the fellas were so sharp! Much Respect!!!!

This is not the person pictured here speaking...but I want you to know that June Richmond was my G-dmother in 1950 at my naming.

Alan Varley: What a blessing! She has so much versatility, and she just seems like such a beautiful person. I wish I could have met her in-person, I’d beg her for a singing lesson!
nobody's as good as Ella...she was on the same track but in a different lane...

I’m thinking the same thing! We call her Saint Ella here in Virginia, so I’d never want to say that anyone is better than Fitzgerald, but I’m shocked that June Richmond doesn’t have the same widespread legendary status. I only learned that she existed two weeks ago when I was watching a random 1950s German-language musical and June sang the opening number called “You Got Me Singin’ the Blues.” Her vocal style, versatility and magnetic stage presence BLOWS ME AWAY!!!
