Rock Van! Hobby Plus 1/18 rtr is GOOD!

Im ecstatic with how they didn’t put another mad jeep on the market and im a full time vanner in real life so you know im extremely excited to see an rc company showing old school American vans some love. We dont have many vans in the hobby. You can literally count them all on one hand. We’ve got the lunchbox, the kyosho with the econoline body, the WPL D42, and this one and im definitely going in on it asap!

It does have a super fun look too it! Chassis layout actually looks really decent and portals are a nice touch. I'd be interested in seeing a direct comparison to the TRX4M. I feel like traxxas should have gone with portals on the mini.

That van is awesome I just got called from my local hobby shop and my trx4 defender just came in today in green which I e been wanting since I first got it so I'm picking it up tomorrow but I am definitely gonna pick this rig up in another week or two I'm gonna go with the tan and lite blue one seem more of a retro color to me I dig the new updates on this CR18 body definitely dig the portals it's gonna be like a mini trx4 with portals like the original one lol I'm a huge 4x4 van fanatic wish I owned one in real life but their Soo overpriced at least I'll have a tiny version of one I'm thinking adventure van look on mine nice vid love that u all do the 1/18 scalers alot especially from companies like fms/eazyrc/rochobby they make such awesome rigs for the money I just got the Willy's 1/12 for 150 bucks this weekend and my god is that thing a beauty I'll be checking in soon love your videos man

So I finally let my curiosity get the better of me. That transmitter is a FlySky MG41 running the ANT protocol. Flysky also shows the new scx24 transmitter and that runs the same protocol. I wonder if they can be paired???

Yes. I paired the scx24 v2 transmitter to the fcx esc which is basically the same as this. The flysky g7p which is also ant protocol won’t bind to them unfortunately though.

Great video! It looks like it would be top heavy but seeing is believing. It would be interesting to see it compared to the other trucks at the lower end of the price scale. And great throwback clip there at the beginning.

I feel it's the best rtr out of the box out of the micro crawlers I knew you'd be impressed I put some swam kings and it really improved this rig and as allways with the best honest review

Definitely interested in a comparison among RTRs on the market right now. I’m getting the sense that the Traxxas at $150 is going to set the hobby-grade price point for Axial and FMS for a while, and that we’ll keep seeing the no-Phillips rigs at that price or higher. But these step-down RTRs that are sometimes $99 on sale are seriously looking fun, and this van definitely looks cooler than the firehorse IMO. These seem like the kind of rigs I’d put wheels and tires on for aesthetics and then never touch unless something breaks. Plus it’s nice to have a couple decent loaner rigs for when buddies want to crawl with you (downside I’d having all my other rigs on one TX, lol).

I just ordered a set of the metal transmission gears used in these to hopefully use in my Atlas. I've been holding off on going the SCX24 axle/transmission swap hoping someone would finally release some metal gears for the trans. Already have the Furitek monster truck ring/pinion in all 3 axles. Wonder if I can use that portal axle on the Atlas now.

If you loose connection under water you will have to make a longer antenna, sticking out of the water - then it will still work.

Question...when you upgraded your wheels and tires, did you find that each axle had 2 small metal washers on the ends of the axles? I just got my Rock Van a couple of days ago and saw the washers on each of the axles. @@2fmrc

Lol. I did the same thing a year or more ago I thought I was on solid ground my trx4 starts to sink a little bit I don’t want to lose it so I lunge for it and my whole leg sinks half way in the water, I dip my radio in the water, in some goose poop muddy slimy water. Pants were soaked socks and shoes were filled 20 minute walk of shame through the park with no shoes back to the car 😂😂 and my radios been glitching ever since

Its just a one speed.

@@Razdawg22 I put the 2 speed in mine. Had to drill new holes in the skid but it wasn’t too hard. The hardest thing is making a mount for the shift servo etc. I ended up pulling it back out just because but it can be done.

I’ve had that happen a few times. Once the package gets to customs in the US it’s sometimes no longer updated for whatever reason. Not much FairRc can do about that but it does suck. Hopefully it’ll show up soon. Mine was in route for a good 2 wks due to them just being released.
