I have no clue whats going on here but all the titles seem very cool and I always watch the videos for a while. Could somebody this time tell me what's going on?

Hi, and yes, I can answer that question for you. In this video, I am demonstrating the operation of a private 2G cellular base station, by connecting real mobile phones to it :)

@crusader_ Hi, while having those skills in computer networking would be advantageous, my focus is more on the RF (radio frequency) physical layer of the communication stack. A key item I use in my RF hobby is a 'software defined radio', having knowledge of what they are and how they work is essential.

Oh that's cool that it included Eliza, it's a "virtual therapist" (a simple chat bot that reflect what the users wrote to it) that was originally made in the 1960s. Someone made a python3 port of Eliza on github, I modified it to use as a discord bot on my discord server. I wounder can this same 2g base station set up be routed through a pbx server and/or VoIP service to allow talking to phones not on the base station? I ask because in America you can no longer get service directly for phones that use anything less 4g lte (even regular 4g is dead in some areas), so it's cool to see hobby projects make them still useful and not E-waste.

Can deploy this station using HackRF hardware?
@RobVK8FOES6 ай бұрын
Hi. If you haven't seen part one of this video series, go and check it out. I explain why the hackRF can never be used as a cellular base station despite being transmit-capable. The tl;dr of it is basically that the hackRF can't transmit and receive simultaneously, which is what is needed for cellular base stations. It's only 'half-duplex', whereas the BladeRF is 'full-duplex'

Can you call other numbers not connected to your base station such as phones on other networks or international?
@RobVK8FOES6 ай бұрын
Hi. Yes, this is possible to do. You have to use a third-party SIP or IAX provider. @Cemaxecuter has done a two-part tutorial on how to do this (I collaborated with him for part two) So far, only outgoing calls are supported, he hasn't figured out incoming calls yet.
@yazidkeraichia2858Ай бұрын
Yes. By using an IAX like Goip. Just attach the IAX with an original sim card. Second you have to config the Goip IAX. I have a config and script...that work well just to make an out call. I'm still working for incoming call...hard. can share may config...let me know. Maybe someone can improve the script ?😊

To be clear, I am not a hacker. So, I wouldn't really know which laptop is good for doing that kind of stuff. However, I am a software defined radio, Linux operating system and open-source software enthusiast. A laptop with plenty of CPU power, a lot of memory and the ability to boot Linux from a USB thumb drive if you're primarily a Windows user... Fast SSD/NVMe storage would be advantageous too.

@@RobVK8FOES Nice work, I want to ask how get most distance of any radio communication method, with less power, and minimal bandwidth.
@RobVK8FOES6 ай бұрын
@arduinoguru7233 That's a complicated question, and it depends on what exactly you intend to do. By far, the frequency that propagates the furthest you can use right now (after getting your Ham radio license) is HF, or 'high frequency' which generally includes anything from 1.8 MHz to 28 Mhz typically. Anything from regular voice transmissions, text messages and even pictures can be transmitted at low power and low bandwidth and travel many thousands of kilometers/miles across the earth (depending on if the solar and atmospheric conditions allow for it at that time)
