Hi Neil. Pam here, Steve’s wife. We’re so glad you’re focusing on your health! Just a few notes. #1 You guys are kind enough to share your journey, and your learning experiences ( the good, the bad, and the ugly ). #2- Your job is not to be our source of entertainment. You are just sharing your experiences. If someone is not enjoying or learning- get off the channel! But, unfortunately, trolls just have to jump in and do or say anything to have the attention on themselves. As the advertising industry has taught us, bad attention is better than no attention. #3- If it’s not fun for you anymore, don’t feel bad about hanging it up. You don’t owe anyone anything! #4- There are other mediums, maybe you’d enjoy doing a podcast, when the moment moved you. Write an e-book about your experiences, or just enjoy your time with Sarah. Without your health, there’s nothing. Take the time and energy to take care of you. A big raspberry to the trolls and people with rude comments. Arm chair critics are always eager to tell you you’re not doing things right, but 99 out of 100 have never been brave enough to step up to the plate and try. Whatever you decide, we wish you and Sarah nothing but good health, happiness, and happy travels whether it’s to the next town over or across the globe. Hugs from Pam and Steve.

I was just telling my husband that this is my fave retirement channel. I look forward to your videos every Saturday. I enjoy your banter, your relationship, your insight (loved that spreadsheet with the Monte Carlo numbers), your adventures. But especially I love your humor and the funny comments about silly details. I tell people about “this retirement couple I follow” and the things I have learned. I understand though that health comes first, so focus on that and I hope to see you guys back (sorry for using that word), when all is well.

Hey Neil, this is Dre. I’m in my early 60s and I took a fall last year that damaged my rotator cuff. Got surgery and physical therapy. At the end of PT, I scheduled my final assessment appointment. Guess what! In Feb, I slipped and fell on ice injured my other rotator cuff. All I could think of is “not again”! My wife and I enjoy your content. We see ourselves in you guys. We’re not completely retired, but we look forward to it and your testimonials, advice, entertainment are well received. We watch videos from start to finish. We enjoy the journey of the content. We have patience. Many viewers lack patience and consume content quite differently than our generation. You’re not boring. You’re quality. You have the wisdom and we appreciate you sharing your life with us. As a fellow content creator, I face the same challenges as you when we’re on vacation. Balancing time to collect content vs enjoying our vacation. The beauty of all of this is that we don’t need the money from KZbin. As such, we have the power to put this thing on pause. Take all the time you need. We will be here. Cheers to you and Sarah. We completely get everything you said and are thankful for sharing unbiased content. ❤

Neil, and Sarah, I have loved watching your channel. It’s in my top two! I know I don’t have the patience to host a KZbin channel for all the time-consuming reasons you mentioned. I’ve really benefited from all the things you’ve shared. I often cite you when I’m talking with my partner about our own retirement plans. Thank you, both, so very much for your generosity, warmth and sincerity. I hope you feel strong and healthy soon. I’ll miss spending breakfast time with you two. ❤ Shannon

Neil and Sarah, my name is Alan, and I was recommended to watch you by my darling sister. Initially I wasn’t over enamoured by your content, but the more I watched the greater the impression I got from you two independent individuals. I respect your candour and frailties, and you carry your hearts on your sleeves. It takes guts and determination to put yourselves up for trolls to take a pop at you but you’ve maintained your dignity throughout. I can never understand why people who don’t enjoy your content, don’t just jog on to something to their taste without spitting out venom and bile. It’s not big and it’s certainly not clever. I sincerely hope that after you regain your health, you return in whatever guise you want, as you’ve both obviously got a talent for producing and presenting. Keep doing whatever makes you both happy and do it for a long time. I wish you both good fortune and the health to enjoy life. My sister is Dawn btw. Two go Roam for the time being, or maybe longer, Two stay at home. Best wishes.

My friend, I’ve never watched one of your videos. But I’m turning 60 tomorrow and retiring and so that’s probably how I found you. I hear the desperation in your voice about your back. I know that pain. I’ve Lived it. I know how all encompassing and overwhelming it is. It touches every aspect of your life. I remember asking myself out loud driving through my neighborhood not too long ago. “What the fuck am I gonna do?” Knowing that I had 25 years left on this planet. I could not bear the thought of enduring that pain for that long. It’s taken me almost a decade to cure myself of 95% of the debilitating pain. But I did things in the wrong do these things in the order that I’m about to give them to you, if I had to do it again This is what I would do. 1. You are not obese but You carry weight around your middle. So did I Losing that weight around your mid section will do more to alleviate pain than anything else. I struggled with my weight for decades. Ironically, KZbin has the answer. Live your life like you’re a diabetic. Drop all of the carbohydrates and starchy foods Eat meat and vegetables no booze no soda sugar is your enemy Find KZbin Dr influencers that talk about becoming metabolically healthy I’m sure you don’t have diabetes you’re not fat but you carry around the middle, which is hard to lose Trust me you can exercise all day and you won’t lose your middle. Change your diet today. Restrict your eating to an eight hour window two meals a day noon to eight After four to six months, 70% of your pain will be fixed as you drop weight around your midsection Next Prioritize strength over cardio but try to do both Commit to strengthening your abs strengthening your legs glutes back hamstrings and quads Lift weights 2 to 3 times a week using proper format. Find the KZbinr that has the program that inspires you the most you are not using it to lose weight but rather to strengthen the muscles that support whatever has damaged your spine. Finally Cardio Keep walking. Just like you’re doing now as much as you can. But don’t make the mistake that I made by starting there and only walking only diet will change your fat around the middle the strength training and the cardio will definitely knock 30 to 40 percent of your pain down. All those hours of slumping in a chair behind your video editor probably wrecked your back. The exercise will fix that. Taking midsection fat off will take care of of 70% of your problem Strengthening the muscles around your back and walking a ton to get and stay in cardio shape will take care of the other 25% You’ll probably have 5% left, but you can deal with There’s no condition that won’t benefit from exercise and diet changes Prioritize the diet. Treat yourself like you’re a diabetic, even though you’re not and the pounds will fall off and your pain will go away.To a great extent I know what you’re thinking. This is generic advice that everyone gives. You think you’ve got a very specific condition requiring advanced medical treatment, and intervention. Maybe You do. But if you do what I say and fill in the gaps with knowledge about what to eat and when you’re going to be amazed. It will be life-changing. I know it’s not a Pat donation. but I promise you if you follow this advice, it’ll be the best subscriber gift you ever got

I can confirm by personal experience that this sound advice. I have some disc degeneration in my lower spine which I am aware of as either a background niggle if I adhere to a very low carb, meat based diet, or as a raging disabling problem if I eat sugar or high carb foods. I’ve got to the point where I know the carb loaded treat is not worth the consequent days of pain.

You were always meant to be a presenter, BBC level too. You could absolutely just riff videos with NO SCRIPT and NO EDITING and your style would make it great. Imagine just shooting a video and uploading straight away...it would be so freeing. We don't care about polish or perfection. Many KZbinrs are better when they do this. Take a year to fix your health, nothing else matters. We love you both and your wonderful content.

I used to have a terrible bad back. I found a really good pilates teacher and had 1-1 sessions. Within a month I was off all painkillers. You'll become very body aware doing pilates and in a short time you'll be able to do exercises yourself that help support your back, ease pain and prevent recurrent bouts of pain, inflammation and stiffness. This might sound too good to be true but it does work. Good luck, back pain really is awful - all the best.

Ramble on mate, it makes the video more authentic. I've been on the move for 3 years and the changing of beds and inconsistent exercising affected my back and muscles. Staying in one place for a good duration helped me a lot to get better, but now I am focused on maintaining an exercise routine that I can practice regardless of where I stay. To everyone, (mostly you over 50s) we can still have fun, but get your diet, health, and fitness in order first. Neil, wishing you a quick recovery, take (more) care.

I’ll be 70 on May. I have not been able to walk for 20 years due to six back surgeries starting at age 33. I can somewhat manage around my home but can’t cook, clean etc any longer. That’s just the beginning. I’ve had knee and shoulder replacements. I live on serious pain meds. Please follow your Drs directions. Loose weight, strengthen your core. Most important things to do imo. Things have changed a lot over 30+ years re:backs. I live in the US and have a home in Dubrovnik. Sadly I really can’t go any longer because Europe doesn’t deal well with disabled people yet. I wish you well please listen to Dr’s. All the Best

Sadly many places are not disabled friendly given I have hip issues and went to bali not great. I would of thought with help of a carer most places would be ok sadly I am alone almost 60 and as a woman who has travelled before in my 20’s as I knew over 50 wasn’t going to be good for me always thought I would again. But is just not possible when one is alone. I also am on meds and can get around house was bed riddled many years but just had hip replacement so am moving much better now. I am so sorry to hear your story as is very hard when it happens so young. I was 20 when I got my injuries to pelvis took years then I traveled knowing it would happen again after 40 I got to almost 50 before riddled with arthritis and had my back seize once was the most unbearable pain with the hip added I couldn’t move at all. I did do travel many times by wheelchair alone was ok going there and going home but was impossible alone once I arrived without help. Lucky help I paid for and it wasn’t expensive. I hope maybe you can somehow travel again. And I wish there was a support Network to help single folk like me to travel with other disabled people who could help each other.

We have been traveling for 4 years now and I am still in shock how rapidly my body and health has deteriorated in the last 18 months. Arthritis in my knees, a wacky heart arrhythmia, diabetes and frequent digestive problems. I am trying to wrap my brain around it while figuring out how to continue to travel full-time. Dear Neil and Sarah, I am one year in Cancer remission and I’m trying to get the guts to do what you and Sarah do and your channel is fabulous. I love your talent and humor and your candid and honesty and fun presentation. It is fantastic, don’t ever change, just pause the channel when you get tired and get healthy and come back on but you have a whole world out here that love you and we appreciate all you have given us throughout all your videos, I would say don’t worry be happy, the old Bob Marley saying and just do it and take days at a time. You are not letting us down you are taking care of your health, and that is the most important thing and our generation really appreciate your honesty and humor and Letty letting it all hang out who cares what others say it’s that you’re living your life on your terms and you’re just being real how many people are out there being fake with the smiles, and saying that everything is peachy when we all know we have ups and down days that is what social media does is to create this illusion of perfection. The real world is what you show us and do the showcase of this video that you’re walking around without having a minute of sleep, showing us your most vulnerable side which most people would not have the nerve to do this on live channels and there are vicious people out there, but it doesn’t really matter as an artist. You never can please everybody all you have to worry about is doing the best you can and enjoying it and when it’s not fun, just put it away for a while, but we sure love your videos and we will miss you. God bless you, stay healthy And live life to the max!❤️🎶🥂😻

Hi came across your video while in Bangkok cafe on Sumkuvhit, Bartells, and I am a 72 year old male solo traveler on the verge of returning to the US after 6 months in Thailand and grappling with a lot of similar issues. Back is one where I've had times when it goes out and I am on the ground writing in pain almost passing out and it takes weeks so I can walk well gain. Long rides on transport exacerbate it and give me a bit of a fear of traveling. I had just gotten my long term stay non o visa when I began to have numbness and pins and needles in my feet. I went to doctor here, but with her accent and mask I had trouble communicating with her. She gave me gabapentin and said come back in 90 days. Living in a foreign country, especially ones so culturally different than our own can create some psychic irritations. At first it's all novel and exciting, but after months one feels the separation more acutely without being able to communicate or have meaningful conversations. Many retirees here go the bar route or the thai girl friend way and neither one of those appealed to me. I think its good when we hearty travelers have the nerve to talk more about the real difficulties of life away from one's home country and culture, especially as it is, injuries apart, very subtle and insidious I think. It may not be what the newbies want to hear but it is real and needs to be addressed. Your last words about having failed Sarah and your followers struck me as unwarranted. I didn't accomplish the long term stay that I had aimed for but I don't want to think of that as a failure and I'm sure you wouldn't put that on me. So focus on the positive stuff you've accomplished for yourself and others and really talk back to that voice that says I've failed. I hope to see a video on that specific thing soon.

Best sandwiches on sourdough bread in Bartels.👍🏻Medical issues when one is travelling can be challenging- thankfully in Thailand the costs are far less challenging than in the West. I would suggest that if you are having problems maybe give Bumrungrad in Bangkok a visit? They cater to non Thai speaking expats v well. And if you should happen to get a doctor that you don’t understand- ask to see one that you do understand. FYI- Hua Hin is a nice spot to explore if you are looking for a great base in Thailand. Solid medical infrastructure- 3 plus major hospitals, international and local resorts, great restaurant choices and just 3 hours drive from Bangkok. Dont give up on your long term stay esp now you have a much better idea of the realities of expat living. Join some online expat groups - they are a wealth of information. Give yourself a break, regroup, reassesss and don’t let that non O visa go to waste😉

I can sympathise, I had a bout of back pain about 10 years ago, and the treatment was just take pain relief pills and a 15 min session with a physio who basically said lose weight and strengthen your core muscles. I did improve my fitness after that and it did help, but I never forget the original pain and how disabilitating it is. Get well soon.

First I want to say I'm sorry for the pain, but I related to it. I'm a scientist and I had horrible bouts of pain in my 30s and early 40s as a single mom with 2 young kids (had to be there for them 24/7 but was incapable of moving). Doctors wanted to get me to surgery. I found dr. sarno's books - "healing back pain" (can find on amazon kindle) and "mind over back pain". I read through and was out of pain in a few days. I was very skeptic, being a scientist, and dr. Sarno saying this is all emotional stuff. But he was right. I got out of the bouts every time, and no surgery. Haven't had one in 10 years now. We also retired early and moved abroad, and those 2 books are what I carried with me in abroad, in our minimalist set up. I would never move anywhere without them!

I’m a creator too in a vastly different niche, I get thousands of views & interactions per week on TikTok and the sad reality is, there is a huge underbelly of lonely, sad people. The highlight of their day is to undermine you in nasty, often personal and piercing ways. The truth is, their opinion does not matter. I’m lucky enough to have grown thick skin over many years, but even I’ve been taken aback in the past 2-3 years. That said, I always file for peace via gratitude for what I’ve got and pity for what they’ve got. Only half way through this vid. I agree that the channel has been a bit woohoo content wise; but like others have said, it’s YOUR journey. Do it your way, no pressure, don’t be hard on yourselves. Focus on health first, then purpose, freedom and contentment. I try not to use the word “happiness” anymore, it’s such a moving target and tends to be a more momentary thing. I may not be glued to all your videos, but I’m a subscriber because I like you guys and good luck to you both. Life is a funny old game, a big bunch of phases, some good some bad, just have to roll with it.

For me, it's the nuts and bolts of travel, the challenges, the little things that other people wouldn't think of. We have our finances on the right track (fingers crossed!) so that is less interesting to me. I like to see places first hand so videos of other places are somewhat interesting but don't grab my attention quite as much. I understand that you have to make content that appeals to a wide variety of folks and I just pop in and out at times, but I never fail to check in and see what you guys are up to. If you decide that you need to stop making videos I would miss you, but would totally understand. Your personal health and happiness must come first! I'm still waiting for you to come visit us here in West Virginia so we can show you around. 😊 Feel better and give Sarah our love!

Hi Neil, I am 72, my house is on the market, and I am getting ready to slow travel to Mexico and the Philippines this winter after a New England summer of van life in a camper van I am just finishing a four-year build out. I tell you all this because, while it is relatively recently that I found your videos, I have scanned through many where I found the topics relevant to my already-retired situation. This is the first or your videos that I have watched non-stop start to finish! I think it is because it was so spontaneous and authentic. I had already grown somewhat fond of you two, so I was easily drawn into the story of your current situation. Along with wishing you all the best on solving your health issues, I want you to know that you are inspiring me to rethink my planned approach to starting a KZbin channel. I recently went on two vacation trips, Tulum and Dominica, with the intention of creating my first KZbin videos around these adventures. I discovered two things: I quickly realized that the task of diligently shooting for travel videos while enjoying Tulum with my daughter and Dominica with old friends would greatly interfere with my enjoyment of the experience. (As an aside, I shot and edited narrated travel videos from 1985-1990 so know the amount of time involved. I shot 17 islands in the Caribbean and went swimming twice!) In both instances, I quickly decided to simply go with the flow and captured random events and encounters along the way. Having a couple of DJI clip-on wireless mics was very helpful. I now have a bunch of footage to process and I think I am going to simply drop in intros and narrations, both scripted and spontaneous, that tie them all together. I think it will be a bit like improv theater, always a bit messy but often surprisingly brilliant. I think the point is that your video showed me that deep authenticity and spontaneity, with a creative dash of note-assisted storytelling, can go a long way to allowing me to better enjoy the moment I am capturing while trusting that whatever I post will resonate with enough people to justify the effort. Thank you, and wishing you all the best. Be

I've just recently come upon your channel and really appreciate it. I never comment but felt the compunction today. My husband and I are still a bit away from retiring but definitely taking in the advice, inspiration and planning others are sharing so hopefully our journey is sooner than later and the transition is more prepared. I want us to be doing what you're doing! From someone who has dealt with back issues from early 20's it's terrible and can truly empathize. Having tried many options over the years I would highly recommend finding someone who does fascia work (especially for shoulder) and Dr John Saurno's book Healing Back Pain was instrumental in changing issue with my back to now, I rarely have a problem. There is hope. I wish you and your wife all the best and thanks for sharing!

Nobody's boring Neil, but we all have our lives, and they can seem boring to any others who aren't interested. Personally, I'm interested in what you are doing, and clearly lots of others are too. Even your health issues, though unfortunate and painful for you, will be interesting and relatable to very many people. Best wishes with getting better for the moment.

I just started watching your videos , as it is our dream to do what you are doing, in 2 years, moved up from 5 years. I have back issues, so I feel your pain, literally. 3 slipped discs within 2 years. Tge last two right before a SE Asia trip, which we had to cancel, and then 6 months later a day before a Peru trip that we had to cancel. Take about mental health crisis as well. Take care of yourself & be kind to yourself. We will all wait.

Neil, I am 61 years old. I was in a terrible car accident when I was 17, and have had neck and back pain since I was a teenager. People who are so lucky to never have had any back or neck issues have no idea how blessed they are. I run/walk and do lower body exercises to try to stay somewhat in shape, but cannot lift even 5 pounds over my head without ending up in pain like you are. I can relate to your situation and I pray for health and healing for you. I have a suggestion about your channel. If you want to talk about a great place that you are living or have travelled to, why don't you take a page from what JP does on "Amelia and JP". JP just pulls out his camera and does a bit of cursory "B roll" footage of him and Amelia walking around or maybe visiting a cafe, but its not much in the way of filming" and then he and Amelia just sit down and talk to the camera and switch back and forth from them to shots of them walking around. We don't expect you guys to be "Kara and Nate" or "Ian and Ana" for goodness sakes. Now here is a comment to pass along to Sarah for me. Sarah is really cute and you are a lucky man, and anytime she is on camera is awesome.

Hello Neil. I've never been here before but the YT gods obviously thought I should see this. As soon as I heard you say that your health issues began once you left home; well as an astrologer that set alarm bells ringing. You may think that's crazy but please believe me that I have seen the accuracy of vedic astrology. Your birth chart is like a map of your personal landscape; how you navigate this terrain is your choice but it sure helps to know where the pleasant places are and where the rehabilitation is needed. I'm also a counsellor and it seems that you were not really ready to stop working and allow yourself to experience life as it is, and that's ok. The important thing is to acknowledge the truth of who you are and where you are at psychologically. The book, 'The Courage to be Disliked' is a simple and powerful guide to facing your life now, and living authentically. It's also here as an audio book on YT. Good luck, Antonia

The book, Healing Back Pain by Dr. John Sarno, may interest you, Neil. It is about how carrying stress can sometimes settle in the back. When I reduced mine, within 3 months I was pain-free; weird, but true. Had struggled a couple of years with it (Rx, chiropractic, massage, etc) with no real improvement. I removed myself from a job that I did not realize had literally wound me up. Perhaps stepping back a bit from KZbin will loosen you more. Please know that boring is never a word I cd associate with you. Your videos are great. You have not let anyone down by living your wonderful life. Carry on, however it evolves. You contribute just being you.

I have enjoyed a bunch of your videos, and have been going back through your old ones too and really enjoying them. I think you overestimate how fancy we need you to make them, and personally I think you have contributed a heap of knowledge, ideas and fun for us, and please don't feel like we are being let down. We just like to get a bit of info, and also, yes, be entertained by where you are and the things you are seeing. To put it into perspective, we also watch lawn mowing videos - entertainment is an important part of our time on youtube. I personally like a little thumbs up or heart from a creator, it is more than enough to know a comment has been read. Don't put a burden on yourself to do long replies please. Have you thought about making a video and splitting it over 2 or 3 weeks? Then the weekly content still ticks over and you get your stories out. Please look at enjoying life in general more and delete and block the troll messages and don't give them more thoughts. Take care and remember when you are tense so is your back......

I recently found your channel and subscribed. Sending Prayers for you to come through this health issue. I’m glad you found someone who understands and you are improving (even though you had a setback). A year ago I had shots in my back 2 times because I had not slept in many days and needed to reduce the inflammation (it wasn’t a steroid). Anyway, I unfortunately understand your issue. You guys aren’t boring and you don’t ramble. It’s nice to see a normal human being- not some shiny everything is perfect video. Also, regarding negative comments. I agree and think it’s best not to read the bad ones to your wife. I posted something on a social network app, it was all Facts- I was hoping to get assistance from someone….anyone….. on something that was way above my pay grade. There were many constructive comments and I did every single thing that people suggested. There were some really rude comments and not the truth of my situation. They added to the drama and doubted what I wrote. Very very strange to have that happen. The rude comments affected me at the time. So, agreed, don’t have her read the comments. Just read her the positives. I love your channel. It’s fun to see people who are doing such a great adventure. I think it’s right to step back and recharge. Best wishes to you both.

I just discovered your channel today and found your videos both interesting and useful. I am a teacher who retired 6 years ago. I have always travelled a lot, mainly to walk in mountainous areas around the world. I have been very fit and health conscious but came down with a bad lung infection then broke my foot in three places several years ago. I had aches and pains until I went on the Keto diet. I found this to be quite incredible as I now have no aches and pains what so ever. This has worked for me. It may not work for everybody but I think it is worth looking at. It's a good idea to look at the science behind it. It takes about three months to kick in. I also do an easy form of tai chi every day called Shibashi which is really good if you have any health issues. I now walk fast between one and a half to three hours a day in the forest near where I live or where I take the caravan. I do not walk on concrete. I moved from the UK to Norway. I would like to wish you the very best and hope your health issues resolve themselves very soon. My warmest wishes.

Hello Neil. I followed you in the beginning of your channel because my interest is in Mexico. Your channel resonated with me because I, too, was recently retired and I appreciate that you were willing to share your newfound time to explore the world, as many of us hope to do. Watching this video, I want to assure you I do not expect professionally produced content. Quite the opposite. What you did in this video is what I want. Real life stuff. May I suggest you refocus the purpose of your KZbin channel to create a journal of your travels for your own enjoyment, to help you relive moments you truly enjoyed because you were living them for you and Sara, not for KZbin. I’d still watch.

Neil and Sarah, please know there are a whole bunch of us who have gotten to know you as a result of your KZbin channel who will still be here if/whenever you decide to come back! But most importantly, one of the key things about early retiring is having the time and space to ensure our health is in great shape. You absolutely need to focus on that. After just going through knee replacement while juggling a load of visitors, and not being able to keep up with them, I don’t feel the same pain that you do but I certainly feel the frustration that the pain and lack of mobility can cause. I know mine is short-lived, however. So, please, focus on your health! And should you ever come back to KZbin, we are still big fans of your walk and talk travel videos. I hope those don’t take nearly as much time and energy to put together! It’s just great to see other early retired travelers around our age explore the world and get your take on a place or a country. As for the consulting business, my big question for you is - is it what would make you happy? You two have extraordinary knowledge to share, and I can imagine you being fantastic mentors. But if it’s not something that would make you happy, and you’re doing it just for other people, I wonder if that is something you will ultimately want to continue? I am still doing consulting for clients I love, but I know why I am doing it - it isn’t for the money. I am using that money to help others. My husband doesn’t totally understand that since he is enjoying being 100% retired, but I am very clear about why I’m doing it and why it makes me happy. So my advice is, just be clear as to why you are doing the consulting business. Please take care, and we will look forward to seeing you back online when you are feeling up to it. In the meantime, focus on your health and each other - and we wish you a very, very, very speedy return to a pain-free life!

Hello Neil and Sarah! I’ll try to keep it short. I just had a Cortisone injection for my 20 yr or so chronic back pain, and the improvement is miraculous. Regarding negative comments, people are unfortunately very unkind at times, but it’s always about their own issues, this has nothing to do with your good nature. There are people so toxic, that the best they can do is bully others to bring them down to their own level. Kind people speak kindly even when objecting to something. I highly appreciate and love what you two share with us, as am sure most people do. I’ll miss you both if you take a break. Reaching for the oxygen mask is not selfish, it’s necessary preparation to help others like you do! Best of luck, I’ll be praying for your complete recovery. God bless!

Hi, don't know you, just came across the channel. You're going to get tons of advice, so I'll throw in mine. First, there's something about retirement (2 years for me now) that often brings out the ills and pains that stayed at bay when I was working every day. I've had one issue after another for 1.5 years. Retirement is an adjustment, not always in the best way at first. Second, in terms of physical pain, all I can offer is, find yourself a good "osteopath" (after a session you might still be in pain for 24-48 hours, just take anti-inflamatories) but they can get you moving again. The other thing I advise is, start walking backwards and uphill if you can. We always propel forward when we walk, backward works on other muscles and serves to balance out the body and also rewires the brain. It's worth a try. I've gotten used to the looks on the street, don't care. Some people give me the thumbs up because they "know". Hope you find the right combination to manage your pain.

You are not boring!! I've watched every video from the beginning. You have mentioned before that ratings were low in Australia.. I'm not sure why... I had learned a lot from each, entertaining video as I have from your other entertaining, real videos. As for your health, that should always come first. I would love to travel and take off to places unknown, but after a quad bypass, things have changed. I've bounced back health wise, but I can no longer get affordable travel insurance if I were to leave my job. I still plan to travel when I do retire, but for only 3 months out of the year.. and I'll pay the high travel insurance. It's still worth it, you guys have demonstrated that. I also will keep my house for several more years.. It's all paid off and I am not brave enough to sell everything that I worked many years for and would have to give away.. You guys amaze me, you did it and from what I can see, have not looked back. As you can see, I can really ramble on. So I will miss seeing your content, I look forward to my Saturday mornings with you guys.. It's like you're here in my kitchen, my family room. As for negative comments, they are usually from depressed, bitter people. Those people are many and will never go away.. Finally.. AGAIN, your health comes first! Love you guys!

I'm writing this as it comes, looking at your channel you have created great content that will be forever available, like a book in a bookcase always available for furure reference, so if you look at it the way a writer does you can't possibly come up with a great book/article every week or maybe you can but thats pressure !! and as early retirees we want to avoid that like the plague...if we wanted bad backs and be generally in a poor state of health etc we could have stayed at work.😢 We all want more of your channel even if we have to wait a couple of months at a time for them. wishing you a speedy recovery.

I wish you a speedy recovery and return to good health. You asked for comments on "consultancy". There is great value in everything you have to share! I can see consultancy as an addition to your channel. The issue will be how you how you put the two things together because I believe you will need both to succeed. And both will take time- a precious commodity. You two are the channel! It's your personalities! You are both thoughtful, informal and caring with a lot of information to share. Hurt my back working for an ambulance service in my late 20's. In the US they won't support long-term epidural injections, physical therapy or chiropractic care. They'd rather pay for surgery which I ended up doing after exhausting all my other options. It just makes your spine weaker and 7 years later I herniated the disc above my prior surgery. Five years after that I re-herniated my original disc. I couldn't sit or lay down for any period of time. I had to walk for an hour to sleep for an hour. I had never been so miserable. They ended up having to fuse my disc's together. I have never been without pain for a solid day for 25 years. I feel like my back issues led to a whole host of other health issues as well. I wish you well and look forward to updates on your journey. ❤

I enjoyed this, and I enjoy both you and Sarah. Your health is important and your recovery is key! I have followed you for several years and just retired this past Dec. 2023. We are on our first slow travel event and just spent 60 days on the coast of Spain. As it comes to an end and we head back to the states to do more divesting of our "things", I realize how truly special the past 60 days have been trsnistioning from work mindset to lifestyle mindset. I still feel like this is a vacation and so getting a routine that focuses more on overall health. I did go to the gym almost daily and took long hikes, but ate like i was on a cruise. So after rambling, my conclusions are balance. I need balance and you guys do as well, for your well being. So sorry about your back. I really enjoy your videos and just talking and walking are great - we don’t need anything overproduced or high effort, just you and Sarah bring yourselves. Hope your back feels better soon and I’d be interested in consultancy

Neil and Sarah I have watched your channel since the beginning. Have loved every minute of it including all the changes you have made. Back pain is awful. I had a back operation 7 years ago now and have never looked back. I’m not suggesting that you go in that direction but it may be an option. Try not to take to heart what some keyboard warriors may say…easier said than done. You both are awesome fun loving people and have sort to inform and show what it’s like to live the life you have chosen…please keep going Good luck with your health and hope to see you fighting fit in your next video. Btw I live in Brisbane and I really enjoyed your Australian videos xo

Healing is now part of your journey; feel better soon. Your sense of humour is amazing -- the off-the-cuff quip to the bird on the bench was very funny.
