Glad you guys are back. Here is what I got from a KZbinr friend who does videos for real estate in Puerto Rico, and let me know anything rings a bell to ya? She said to me (I’m copying / pasting her exact text): “oh man Im just a closet George Lucas wanna’ be and was trying to make 15 minute opus clips for everything. I was obsessing about color grade, and the right music, the right jump-cuts, the right angles and such. Then I realized NOBODY GIVES A **** about the details. The content is king. People just wanted a nice shot of the house, the rooms and quick descriptions. When you are house hunting NOBODY has time to watch 15 min for every damn house. I totally made it about me and my skill sets as a content creator and forgot what the audience needed. It was terribly humbling. Now i do run n gun clips, make sure they are stabilized, and NOTHING more than 2 minutes and 45 seconds. That’s what my research says people looking for homes have patience for. I cut my production time on a per-video-basis from 18 hours today down to 3. I’m much happier now and have increased my traffic 350%. The audience was always there, I was just giving them an ego-driven product that they didn’t care for or need. I learned late but I learned”. I’m not sure if any of this applies to you but i found it useful even in my own life. I pray you and Sarah are well and recharged my friend. Hugs!

agreed. short. to the point is better. I like to watch videos that are less than 8 minutes. When I make a video (I don't edit) it's off the top of my head. Those scripted ones usually are crap. Hell I love RANT videos. Even if I am the only one watching it, I can go back and watch mine and say HELL YEA!! But you know I am selfish like that.

Good on you. Number one priority is taking care of yourselves. Any crumbs you toss our way are always appreciated, but we would NEVER want you to feel, “We said we are going to do this for you (KZbin viewers), so we MUST muddle through!” Nope, no way. Have fun, enjoy the journey, and making memory dividends! Big hugs. We’ll soon be in Malaysia and hope you and Sara will stop by if you’re back visiting again.

Hey Pam, this is really kind of you. We hope that we'll be able to really make the fun for everyone and that includes us to two. Keep us posted on your locations and hopefully we will meet somewhere in the world. Best regards, Neil & Sarah

I like your analogy of the youtube shuffle. I started my channel for fun. No schedule. of course I don't make any money, I don't edit or have scripts. I don't care about that. I just do it. Sometimes it's about money, sometimes it's about my plans, and sometimes I just gotta rant and can't do it to family or friends. If I am ever able to retire and travel, it will certainly be about that. I WATCH people like you so I can live in the world vicariously, since I cannot see it in real life. I also have a lot of "private' videos for me to watch later..

Your life and your retirement is to enjoy each other and what you are doing, not be stressed out by KZbin and what your subscribers/followers are thinking. We will watch whatever you choose to share with us … NO PRESSURE. The more you enjoy your retirement and time on the road the more we will enjoy “sharing” the journey with you.

Love it! I never understood why you scripted them in the first place but I just thought it was an OCD thing. Don’t really care about the retirement preparations either, just show us where you are and what you’re doing. Just roll the camera during appropriate parts of your life just as you did in this video. Super simple ;) You look great, by the way. Look forward to seeing Sara again. I deleted the travel channel because you shut it down, going back again now. We’re planning to spend this winter in Queretaro and Oaxaca thanks to you guys.

Yay, you’re back and looking good! Looking forward to seeing Sarah soon. What you mentioned in this video is very common with many KZbinrs. You start relaxed and vlog as if it’s just some home videos. But then, you want to take the perfect shot, supply info & entertain, etc. Before you know it you put yourself under pressure to do and give more, and then it becomes more about the subscribers than about yourself. Unless you’re making a lot of money from it and relying on it to survive, it’s just not worth the hassle/stress! I’ve enjoyed watching both your travel videos and your retirement tips videos, but I’d be just as happy to see some old fashioned home video style vlogs. You both have great personalities and I think that’s perfect enough. All the best to you both. ❤Zeljka

Glad you are taking this approach for your sanity, health and well being. As you say, you worked hard in the Corp world and this should be more of a hobby so you don't spend time scripting etc and can actually enjoy where you are Like you I worked for 40 years in a banking career and deserve my retirement so my KZbin channel, which does have only a fraction of your subscribers is a hobby where I try to give people as much info about a place as I can to help them make an informed choice about visiting there. But I've never ever scripted a video as I want to enjoy where I am visiting and being a hobby and permanent video record for me and my family, I don't have the pressure of having to get to so many subscribers or post every single week Good luck with the new approach and I'll keep watching

Neil, the content you guys have produced has always been top-notch. I have realized just how much work it was for you guys (because I have made a couple videos - and it is work!). I always thought to myself how much WORK it was for you to do what you do - and thought, ‘that’s just a new job in retirement’🙂 I’m glad that you are refining and reimagining what you’re doing in this space; you guys deserve ‘actual’ enjoyment of the experiences you share with us. Many times, when I am trying to capture a new experience on video (for family and friends) I kind of feel like I’m missing part of the experience myself. Share with us what you will, at your own pace, - just keep some for yourselves. Thanks again for so much great content!

Welcome back, Neil and Sarah! Man oh man, do I relate to this video. When we started on YT, we did a daily video while speedy traveling around Europe for 9 weeks! For those of us who have never made a KZbin video, it’s easy to underestimate the amount of planning, preparation and post-production that goes into each one. We *have* noticed the increasing technical sophistication of your videos over the years. Bravo. But that’s not why the two us follow your channel. We follow your channel because we’re always curious about what you have to say, and because we’re forever rooting for you. Rough around the edges is just fine. Enjoy yourselves. Make the videos for yourselves. You’ll have a modest but loyal fan base for years to come. (Half Man, Half Biscuit have had a forty-year musical career of doing exactly what they want, when they want. There’s no reason why you and Sarah can’t be the charming English eccentric KZbin equivalents of Half Man, Half Biscuit. 😆)

I am a KZbinr and know how you feel. I have uploaded 300 videos and now taken most down. The pressure to upload and responsibility to create for viewers can be hard (for me). It feels like I always have to be thinking about it. I decided a while ago to only sit in front of the camera, talk for 20 mins, and then do no editing and just upload. It is an off the cuff chat. I find it easier and means it is all done in less than an hour. Even still doing this, I would like to pivot and just pull video of the outdoors and the things I see and then just do a voice over. Your channel is 1 of 5 KZbinrs that I watch.

I love the random…maybe not so polished….travel vlogs! I don’t mind a bit of content thrown in here and there about how you manage your retirement travels/finances but I look for inspiration in how to travel to certain places. And no offence to the Americans but it’s nice to have a “non American” view point about travelling and finances. I’m an Aussie and it can be a bit discouraging at times when planning for travel in retirement to see Americans being able to travel at a “higher” level than we can due to the availability of so many different credit card reward schemes which we don’t get here. So keep up the more “relaxed” “vlogging” and enjoy yourselves!!

Welcome back, really nice to hear you are better Neil, and finding the best way for you and Sarah to bring us the lovely snippets of your adventures but not putting yourselves under too much pressure, and also the advice and information you have gleaned on your journeys is so helpful to those of us that are still contemplating. Really missed seeing what you are up to :) I'm from Wales so I'm pleased to see you are appreciating the lovely scenery. Have a good trip!!

Good to see you Neil. Great to see you are doing well. I always try to keep in mind the biggest benefit of Financial independence... Freedom. I'm free to always choose to do what is in my best interest. Free to do what makes me happy and keeps me healthy. It seems that you have come to the conclusion that you should do what makes you happy, whether it gets you more clicks or not. Regardless of the format, I think your happiness will come through in the videos. This will accentuate what I always thought was the best part of your videos, your great personalities. That combined with a bit of useful info. and you can't go wrong. I know I'll be watching no matter the format.

Loved this! So easy to watch. I’m subscribed to tons of YT channels and despise notifications IRL, nevertheless yours is the one and only channel I have “All Notifications” turned on for. Great to have you guys back!

Hi Neil - hope you are cracking the health issues. Keeping fit on the move can't be easy. I think you should just focus on the travels / your life and vlogging, that is what I want to see. Forget the finance stuff there plenty of other people doing this - is trying to do 2 channels a good idea. I retired 4 years ago too, but my wife is still working so the travelling is limited, but I want to see how it is working (or not) for you guys. Good luck

Welcome back! Hope your back is doing better, Neil. We appreciate what you do. It doesn’t have to be perfectly scripted. If someone doesn’t like your videos, they are free to unsubscribe. You don’t need another job. That’s the way we run our KZbin Channel.

Love the unscripted approach. Remember it's the donut holes that make the donut interesting.

Yay, you guys are back! We started a new channel but we have been watching your channel. I actually shared with you about possibility of Meniere's symptoms before. It feels overwhelming having a you tube channel. A lot to learn but it's okay. You and Sarah are such an inspiring couple!

Great plan! At 66 I'm getting ready to retire with no debt, a pension and Social Security, which will be a bit more than I make now. Looking for low cost adventures.
