Confession time... Love when y'all go grocery shopping. It helps me more than you know in picking up things to try in my local Korean grocery. A good many of the products are labeled only in Korean and it has saved me so much time over using Google lens with translate. Thanks! Great video as always.

There's a really interesting book from the 80's called "The Life and Hard Times of a Korean Shaman" based on interviews between an American anthropologist and a Korean shaman woman who talked about her life and living through the war. As a woman it's sometimes hard to read because of how deeply sexist her upbringing was, but it's still a really fascinating and valuable perspective since the cultural/spiritual landscape has continued to change since then.

@@2hearts1seoulthe author has another book called 'Shamans, Housewives, and Other Restless Spirits' that's a broader look at women in Korean spiritual life (from the 80s again), but I haven't read that one. :) On the book channel you could do a whole series on books about women in Korea, I know I'd love that!

The chicken udon looks really good! The Hanaro Mart looked really cute. I don't know it's just the city I live in, in Canada, but in terms of grocery stores there's not too much variety as they're all big box stores - Costco, Walmart, Sobeys/Foodland/Freshco, Metro/Food Basics, Zehrs/Superstore/NoFrills. Happy Easter btw!

I watched Exhuma and I love it. I am somewhat familiar with Korean history, but I think people who are not exposed to Korean history will not understand the movie that well. The movie is very popular in my country. Shamanism is something that exist in my country, so that might be one of the reasons why the movie is popular. I don't find the movie scary at all, though.

You are correct. I remember many years ago when the movie THE RING came out. There was so much buzz about how scary it was. I said it's not that it's so scary, but that is what Asian ghosts are like. They don't wear silly masks and they don't just disappear when the sun comes up.

Hi Sarah! Hi Kyuho! Not only is it Easter Sunday here, but we get to see how your week was! Win Win! Oh my gosh, that udon restaurant looked so yummy! The gyoza was a work of art! That presentation! Woah! I love how you both only talk about scary things during the day. I’m so that person too! I’m intrigued by ghosts-as I actually captured an entity on film, many years ago at Alcatraz Prison in San Francisco while on tour with my husband and son. My Japanese mom made a HUGE deal about bad luck, etc., and made me get rid of it, before I could even send it off to ‘Ghost Hunters,’ my favorite ghost hunting team. Ever since then, I don’t like to watch anything ‘ghost,’ or anything scary after the sun goes down. I don’t think I could watch the movie you mentioned-even if it was on my phone with the volume down, like Sarah mentioned. LOL I do have to commend you both on your restraint at the market. We have H-Mart out here, and I will always walk out with a cart full of groceries. We do have sesame leaves at H-Mart, as I will often buy them for at home KBBQ. What I do have trouble finding are large perilla leaves. Thanks for sharing your fried chicken! I am sooooo going to get that for dinner tonight! Have a great and safe week! ❤

I watched Exumha at a theater in the USA and loved it! I didn’t think it was scary at all but I don’t typically have any issues with scary movies. My husband definitely spooks easier and I don’t think he would consider it scary either… more mystery/thriller? It is intense; there is a strong sense of dread and some grotesque scenes/imagery, but I don’t think you would walk away feeling haunted or scared, if that makes sense.

Yeah, they’re much smaller than the ones I’m used to in Canada~ But that’s understandable, as Korea has a much smaller land mass, and Seoul is super densely populated. A huge upside to living in a small country is that it’s really simple to get your groceries delivered here quickly, which we prefer 😎

Beemo with the chicken was so funny too, my cat used to do that 😂 Shamanism in South Korea really fascinates me given how prevalent the practices still are in such a modern country. The fact that they're still using shamans when opening new government buildings is mind boggling to me, plus the whole allegations against the president alleging that he decided to shun the Blue House because of its bad ju ju. I don't know of any other country as modern as South Korea where this still happens.

@18:35 - $3.70 CA for a 5-pack of the basic orange pack of Samyang instant ramen? Nice. The cheapest you can get them here in Halifax (when not on sale), as far as I can tell, is $6.49 (₩6,450) at No Frills. At Sobeys, they were $8.99 (₩8,940) last time I looked. Of course, ours has to be imported, but it still sucks having to pay so much more. :P (Only noticed 'cos it's time to get some more as I, before I even saw it in the video, was going to have my last pack for lunch in about 10 minutes :) [edited to do some exchange rate stuff :P]

Oh man, I would go wild in that supermarket, so many yummy things. It's like Costco, you go in for two things and $200 later, LOL

it's cheaper than doing all those dishes at home, but is it healthy though? i have a feeling that the salt and fat proportions on industrialised foods will be way higher, not to mention the preservatives

I watched Exhuma recently and I wouldn’t say it was scary scary, more eerie and spooky. There are some jump scares and lots of blood vomiting but I think if you didn’t mind watching The Wailing then Exhuma should be fine

Arrived Seocho gu yesterday for 5 weeks , did your Costco trip but everything 'family sized', so went to Lotte for essentials. Going to find a Hanaro mart today and go down to Lotteworld to find the cakes you showed in another video....₩₩₩₩₩s😖😖

I'm not Korean but Hmong and we also have shamans who do a lot of healing ceremonies for the sick and other things. We believe that everything have some sort of spiritual being whether it's a person or place. When a person falls sick then a shaman can be summoned to help call the sick person's spirit back. Usually a sacrifice of an animal is used as an exchange/payment for the spirit world. It just depends on how much damage has been inflicted onto the spirit. As for exhuming the dead, we do not dare do it as it'll disturb the dead's spirit and home. This can cause harm to dead in their afterlife and/or whoever has exhumed the dead. I'm no expert or know the nuances of the world of shamans. It's just based on my observations growing up being surrounded by what my family has done or seen from other families.

Is frozen fruit an affordable option in Korea? In Canada sometimes the fruit is healthier (picked at perfect ripeness) and more affordable frozen.

"Just a few items......" call H mart overseas....😅😅 I NEVER get a cart ..a basketful is all I really need. Why is fruit SO expensive, tho I got a lovely apple in Seoul, fizzy taste...😊 We can get Korean fruit in Ireland but never found the 'fizzy apple'. And WHERE does all the out of date stuff go to..or do the sell that much every week?? Went to Hyundai store in Apgujeong, surprised they had Irish oat porridge on sale there..
