There's a really interesting book from the 80's called "The Life and Hard Times of a Korean Shaman" based on interviews between an American anthropologist and a Korean shaman woman who talked about her life and living through the war. As a woman it's sometimes hard to read because of how deeply sexist her upbringing was, but it's still a really fascinating and valuable perspective since the cultural/spiritual landscape has continued to change since then.

Hi Sarah! Hi Kyuho! Not only is it Easter Sunday here, but we get to see how your week was! Win Win! Oh my gosh, that udon restaurant looked so yummy! The gyoza was a work of art! That presentation! Woah! I love how you both only talk about scary things during the day. I’m so that person too! I’m intrigued by ghosts-as I actually captured an entity on film, many years ago at Alcatraz Prison in San Francisco while on tour with my husband and son. My Japanese mom made a HUGE deal about bad luck, etc., and made me get rid of it, before I could even send it off to ‘Ghost Hunters,’ my favorite ghost hunting team. Ever since then, I don’t like to watch anything ‘ghost,’ or anything scary after the sun goes down. I don’t think I could watch the movie you mentioned-even if it was on my phone with the volume down, like Sarah mentioned. LOL I do have to commend you both on your restraint at the market. We have H-Mart out here, and I will always walk out with a cart full of groceries. We do have sesame leaves at H-Mart, as I will often buy them for at home KBBQ. What I do have trouble finding are large perilla leaves. Thanks for sharing your fried chicken! I am sooooo going to get that for dinner tonight! Have a great and safe week! ❤

My husband definitely spooks easier and I don’t think he would consider it scary either… more mystery/thriller? It is intense; there is a strong sense of dread and some grotesque scenes/imagery, but I don’t think you would walk away feeling haunted or scared, if that makes sense.

@2hearts1seoul7 ай бұрын
Yeah, they’re much smaller than the ones I’m used to in Canada~ But that’s understandable, as Korea has a much smaller land mass, and Seoul is super densely populated. The fact that they're still using shamans when opening new government buildings is mind boggling to me, plus the whole allegations against the president alleging that he decided to shun the Blue House because of its bad ju ju. I don't know of any other country as modern as South Korea where this still happens.

I'm not Korean but Hmong and we also have shamans who do a lot of healing ceremonies for the sick and other things. We believe that everything have some sort of spiritual being whether it's a person or place. When a person falls sick then a shaman can be summoned to help call the sick person's spirit back. Usually a sacrifice of an animal is used as an exchange/payment for the spirit world. It just depends on how much damage has been inflicted onto the spirit. As for exhuming the dead, we do not dare do it as it'll disturb the dead's spirit and home. This can cause harm to dead in their afterlife and/or whoever has exhumed the dead. I'm no expert or know the nuances of the world of shamans. It's just based on my observations growing up being surrounded by what my family has done or seen from other families.
