I bought one in November 2000 (the first week they were here in Los Angeles) and was especially drawn by Toyota's advertising that said the sunroof was optional. I hate sunroofs, and when I got to South Bay Lexus, the salesman said he didn't have any in stock without sunroof. He checked the computer, and there was only one car on the West Coast between San Diego & Seattle, and that was at Longo Toyota. I drove up to Longo, and I saw their car, which was OK, but did NOT have power seats. Turns out all the non-sunroof cars had only mechanical seats, no power. I wanted power because anybody who gets in the car moves the seats, and then it takes weeks for me to get the damn thing readjusted. So I ended up with a sunroof. My car just rolled over 100K. Engine is stock, but chassis has StopTech binders on the front axle, Tom's chassis braces, sway bars, and strut braces on the front and rear. Runs great, looks great, and I have left it to my mechanic in my will. At 87, I don't presently plan to unload it unless some disaster hits. Not as much fun as my RX-7, but nevertheless a pleasure to own and drive. Always a California car, and parked in a heated garage.

I have a 2001 IS 300, it has around 410,000 miles and runs perfect, perfect power, no noises, the only thing wrong was I had to change the transmission oil but if you are thinking about getting this car it will not let you down.

If you bought one for 1700 then resold it to your friend, I would hope you did some reconditioning to it. The only times I ever sold a car for more than I bought it was when I sold it in better shape than I bought it.

I restored ripped tan interior to mint black interior the is300 had tein coil overs drilled slotted rotors new pads new tires freshly painted black is300 rims full catback exhaust headers new plugs carbon grill and altteza grill front lip that’s when I sold him the car I cleaned it up a lot i got it in poor condition for 1700 and I put about 3k into it so that’s why I was asking 4500 but I know what you mean !

Yes, Nick, about a million reasons for not having a sunroof. (1) they leak, (2) they rust around the tracks, (3) they require structural beefup to carry loads around the giant hole in the roof, (4) they add weight in the roof area for the additional structure, thereby raising the vertical cg and having a slight but measurable influence on the handling, they get thrown into the cost of the car (last I checked, around $800) whether you want it or not. Really just junk, not necessary and not wanted in a performance vehicle, even a street sedan like the IS300.

I’ve owned two and if you can find one for the right price in good condition you’d love it!!! With gas prices being up expect to pay 150$ in gas a month if you will be driving the car ever day a good amount

is250 prices for both gas and normal are quite a bit better if you're worried about that. I remember the is300 was around 12-15mpg and the is250 gets around 24-26mpg
