I have driven a semi for 30 years and I have never heard of it called immigrant pass. We always refer to it as Cabbage.

I live in Pendleton we go over it all the time. It’s really dangerous in the winter when it’s icy. The state road department try’s to keep it clear as much as they can. it gets closed a lot in the winter.☺️☺️☺️☺️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Every time I see Emigrant Hill, I'm reminded of Ash Hill in Arizona. In both cases, the scenery quickly changes as one goes up or down the hill. Nice photos at the end too.

I definitely see a lot of similarities between the two roads you mentioned.

Always nice to see a road I've driven on showcased. It's a pleasant drive most of the year, unless you're towing. Both uphill and downhill can be a challenge. I don't know how many runaway truck ramps there are along this section of highway, but seems to me way more than even typical mountain interstate roads.

Nothing like coming off Cabbage WB with a heavy load and no engine retarder in the old days. Nice and peaceful for the first mile, then at 4:15 it's around the bend and Oh SH*t! You better have your I's dotted and your T's crossed at the top. Slow down and gear down. The last two miles seem relatively flat but that is highly deceptive. I have always wanted to explore the side roads in a four-wheeler, but have yet to do so.

@5:15 was the trailer on the left rubbing against the tires? Smoking brakes? Absolutely love that banjo tune at 8:07

Smoking brakes.

I drive this almost two times a week with a loaded trailer; very common to see trucks going too fast and smoking their brakes on the downhill side, completely ignoring the speed advisory signs. You can smell it all the way to when they pull off into the Arrowhead Travel Plaza parking lot in Pendleton.

Love the content and enjoy the scenery as well. Please do me a favor and slow down the video speed in the tight turns so I don't loose my dinner. :) Looking forward to more good stuff.

Nice one! This is a drive (I-84 from Portland to Salt Lake) is one I'd like to take. I'd also make the comparison to Ash Fork Hill on I-40 in AZ. I've driven that hill several times personally, and it's good slog going up. A note: In the Blue Mountains, you're in Bigfoot country once again: they have had sightings there, and more than a few tracks and even trackways have been found-mostly on the WA side, but also in OR....keep your eyes peeled if taking 84 at night.
